Forgive me if this has been asked/answered elsehwere but...

1) Will there be an Earth map (standard & huge) in the basic game (store bought DVD)?
2) Will you be able to randomize your starting locations on said earth maps? (ie American can start in Africa, France in Asia, etc)
3) Will you be able to randomize number of Civs on the Earth map (ie not always play with 18 or whatever number)?

I'm not looking for an Earth Mod perse (since I'm sure some will be created), but just if a basic Earth map will exist and if you'll be able to randomize stuff on it out of the gate. I'm thinking of the old Civ II type Earth maps.

Thanks.

I pray to God that those aren't all the techs in the game for the first few eras. Also, currency in the medieval era? I'm pretty sure the Romans, Greeks, and plenty of other classical civilizations had currency centuries before the medieval period...

Yea, currency should be a classical tech. Dunno if Bite messed up or if it's a Firaxis mistake.

Keep in mind that a lot of what were techs in Civ4 have moved to Social Policies in Civ5. The military police effect that came with adopting Monarchy is now (although slightly differently) the Warrior Caste Social Policy for example. Basically there are 60 different items in Social Policies (10 trees and 5 policies in each tree) where there were only 20 different civics to discover in Civ4.

A case could definitely be made though to move the boundaries between Classical and Medieval, and between Medieval and Rennaissance one block to the right.

I heard somewhere that legions (Roman unique units) can build roads, but it is not written in here. I guess It's not strong enough to confirm. ;)

That can't be final. There's no way that can be final...

We can hope.
Surely Firaxis can't be -that- dumb. I've said that before, and it seems like each time I do it turns out they are but... please don't let Firaxis be dumb enough for that to be the final tech tree.
If so, say bye-bye to Firaxis. They're already having financial issues as it is, the flop of this game will be the death of them.

you do realize that that is not the entire tech tree and that many "techs" have been moved to the social policy system, right?

That's the Ancient up to the end of Medieval, and that's still -pathetic-. Beyond pathetic, even if some have been moved onto the equally dumb sounding social system.
Hell, compare The Wheel and Civil Service.
If that's not some unfinished beta tech tree that only shows a fraction of the actual ancient, classical, and medieval era techs, then Firaxis is entirely deserving of its fate.

My apologies, dF, I should have read your sig first - I thought you were interested in having a discussion, but I can see you have already made up your mind.

Couldn't come up with a decent defense for the tech tree's length once you realized the short distance between The Wheel and Civil Service, I take it?
