A broken cable has damaged the huge main dish at the iconic Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. It’s not clear why the cable broke in the middle of Monday night, said a statement from the University of Central Florida, which manages the observatory. Arecibo has been weathering hurricanes and other challenges since 1963, and staff will focus on “restoring the facility to full operations as soon as possible,” says observatory director Francisco Cordova.
Nowdays the term generally means any massive fish, like a whale. Iirc depictions of the Ketos in ancient greek art present it as a sea mammal, not an octopus or similar.
I play a lot of Jewel Match games, and the payoff is that you trade money and jewels to build castles. Some of the castles in the game are nice but basically 2-dimensional. They're pretty, but I can't imagine them being livable or even usable at all.
Others are well-done to the point that I now have one of them as my wallpaper and have incorporated it into my King's Heir story. It's up in the remote mountains, it's cold and snowy and dark... and that's where one of the characters is going to be sent as a punishment. It's also where that character will plot revenge and set up a story arc to happen a few years down the road.
The main events at this weekend long demoparty are the various demo compos, but there are art and music categories too. The textmode graphics category is usually heavily contested by some of the best artists in the scene. We'll see how I do!
If oldschool demos on Amigas and PCs interest you, the whole thing is being streamed on twitch. There's all sorts of interesting panels, DJs, etc. This is usually held in a large auditorium in Germany, but this year it's all online for obvious reasons
Here's the schedule of events, although it's all in CEST time zone hours
