It's a real thing. It's just not at all a practical thing. So I don't understand what the point behind it is.

why do the preferred artworks for so many nations look so similar..? i don't presume these people all spontaneously ended up asking for a mountain to the left, grass in the front, water in the back and mountains in the distance and a tree center right?

It was a multiple choice questionnaire so I assume they would have to have some fixed templates with individual features to be altered. That almost all people choose the "blue landscape" (outdoors scenes with rivers, oceans and seas) is actually pretty much the main theme of the book this is from.
