So, I tried to load up a new a new game as the English, I'm here sitting on my laptop with it partially blocking the screen, I notice that it isn't progressing so then I look and you know what I see? "Hammurabi Wins a Historical Victory!!!!" and I'm here thinking damn I should post that, so yeah...

Dang, I was pissed that a lost game was going into my HOF and happy the AI isn't terrible, but now you tell me it was a python error?
 
Glad to be back, and happy to see the new DoC sub-forum.

In my games, Italy always seems to be crushed by France, Germany, and oddly the Russians. Even in my last game as France, who gave lots of crap to the Italians just to see them survive(including Rome, which I had conquered for them), was murdered by a massive Russian horde. I'm not sure how to fix it, but making the Russians not see so much value in Venice would be a good idea, and probably putting them at odds with the Germans, so that they would have to go through Germany before Italy.

Also, I really like how now the Russians go all the way into Siberia without collapsing. It makes them much more realistic, trying to beat down the Mongolians and Japanese.

Another thing I would like to ask about is: Is it intentional that when Egypt respawns in the late 1700's to have them a Ottoman vassal? The reason I ask, is that they seemingly always vassalize to the Ottomans the first turn they come back, and then they can't un-vassalize, even through World Builder. To be honest, I don't see much of a problem with it if it is(because they can't get all to powerful that late in the game anyways), but I didn't think that it was intentional.

He always DoWs on someone, usually either Germany or France, who always crush them, though he DoWed me in my Arabia game after I smashed into Spain with a large stack of Camel Archers. The other possible solution is to let all of Italy flip to him, so that he gets that large army that's always in Rome.
 
I really like how the Italians spawn on the north and then have to capture Rome and conquer their way down through Italy, that's kind of how it happened in real life. I"d say that if they're going to get some help, that should be extra units, not extra cities. Perhaps if they spawn with one additional tech they'd also have an easier time.
 
So would you say you're sold on the idea of a Greek conqueror event for the Near East?
When I think it's possible to make it behave realistically. Which isn't the case currently.

Yeah. I think early Italy can't be strong militarily, on the other hand Cavour needs to be aggressive to better model modern Italy. Best solution is probably another leader.
 
Leoreth, Will you be adding the Seljuks, Safavids (all the features UHV, UB, UU etc), and the new religions from Synthesis (Orthodoxy and Shiite Islam)?
 
With Christianity split into Catholic and Protestant it definitely could use an Orthodox. Catholic Byzantium and Russia every game is kinda weird.

Also you should mod the protestant revolution so the bigger the country is, the less likely it is to become protestant.

Since Taoism and Confucianism both exist, I suppose an Islam split and a second Christian split wouldn't be too bad, but they are somewhat superfluous. How are Orthodoxy and Shiite Islam carried out in Synthesis?
 
Italy could have Giovanni de Medici when they spawn and then change to Cavour at around 1800.

Yes (excepting Shia Islam), and iirc I already said so.

Italy could have Giovanni de Medici when they spawn and then change to Cavour at around 1800.
The problem is a lack of suitable LH graphics there.
 
Just finished a Japanese game, and I must repeat that the cultural goal works really well. In my first attempt at it I neglected science too much in the process, so I had to retry and be more balanced about it. I spent the 17th century catching up in tech, then invading China with Riflemen.

It seems that the respawn mechanic really is broken, because none happened in the game. Turkey managed to conquer all of continental Europe, was always unstable/collapsing, but never faced a secession. That also made beating them in score by 1930 impossible, so I settled for conquering Korea, Manchuria, China, Indochina, Indonesia and the Philippines instead. That was no problem, so I think I'll change the second goal to something like that.

Catching up in tech was hard as well, but beelining Computers and building the Internet took care of that. All in all their game now feels much more historical.

Will now try to fix the resurrection code.
 
Maybe we should make the Pacific islands a little less useless. Spawn a city or two on one of those one-plot islands that you can take over, they would make good bases...

Leoreth, when are you making the terrain changes?
 
I was wondering a couple of things:

1) Why do the Mughals spawn in 1200, considering that they spawned some 400 years after that date??

2) When the Ottomans spawn, they get flipped to Central Asia or Russia, due to Byzantine culture, can you stop that somehow, by perhaps having them spawn with their own culture for a couple of turns, before the cities flip to them?
