Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

I'll confirm that though Byzantium spawns at the proper spot, they start with no techs at all, except maybe what they get in normal Civ. I do have a suggestion though: Perhaps the Byzantines can spawn with a Catholic missionary or something? It'd make their situation a bit more realistic, and hopefully counterbalance the Hindu/Buddhist/Zoroastrian Europe that sometimes happens on 3000 BC starts. In a way, Byzantium did preserve Christianity in Europe against the Arabs, the missionary would fit in with this.

Thats true, the Byzantines AND other European countries, should start off with Christian Missionaries. At the very least though, there should be a programmed spread of Christianity to different regions of Europe.

On a side note: I think it would be a good idea to show your stability level on the side, like how SoI does. If you could enable that, that would be awesome!

I know the current revision is broken (for Byzantium, that is). No idea why Rome still has problems. Did you also have graphical problems (Constantinople being displayed as ruins)?

I have to ask you for a little patience here because I currently have only little time. I might be able to quickly fix Byzantium, but I can't troubleshoot what troubles Rome.

.

No graphical problems here. And if you want patience, you'll get it. We all appreciate the work you're doing some of us like me could never hope to understand, we can wait. I mean, we've waited this long, and look at how it's paid off so far!

I have downloaded your files, but haven't included them yet.

Please, no on-start missionaries. I like it that sometimes Europe isn't christian. Why would you want to so drastically reduce replayability? Should Rome always span its full historical extent? For that matter, should it always collapse? Missionaries are way too deterministic.

If they do start with missionaries, then, IMHO, there should be a chance for any religion to become dominant.

This is exactly my opinion.

Maybe the Byzantines should spawn with a missionary of Rome's state religion.
But that wouldn't make sense if Constantinople was owned by the Greek at the time of their spawn, even though historically they're Romans, in the game they might not be, after all. And what if in Constantinople there's, say, Bhuddism only and the Romans are christians, what sense would it make?

I think the Byzantines should spawn with a missionary corresponding to the state religion of the civ that owns Byzantium, even if there's another religion already there. In its most abstract form, I feel that Byzantium would represent a relocated, rejuvenated civ (Roman, Greek, or otherwise), so having the new capital get the "old" civ's state religion seems appropriate.

No worries. I'm actually only playing this mod right now for testing purposes. Anything I post in this forum is for your information. I try to run a couple of DoC starts every day or so and play a few turns to give you some more data to work with.

That's really cool, thanks.

But you know that you can always revert to earlier revisions and play the game for fun, right? :D

To play for fun ? wow, that's a strange concept :D

No offense, cuz I love your mod and all, but when I am playing for fun these days its usually SoI. Once Byzantium and rome are done, and I convince you to change Turkey around a bit, then that'll open up 9 or 10 new games for me to play, which should cover me until your next batch of changes are almost done. So you can thank me, and your welcome, but I have a vested interest in helping you straighten these things out, so really I'm doing it for myself :D I've pretty much played this game out, but your changes make it fun again!

No offense taken :)

A little SVN update today: Byzantine spawn fixed, Roman UP doesn't work for Italy anymore, less starting units and no Feudalism for Byzantium.

The Roman crash still escapes me.
