DLC 6 Anticipation Thread

Hey, here's an idea ---- let's not artificially inflate the post/page count on this thread, trying to lure the publisher/developer into releasing the DLC and accompanying patch (presumably) earlier than they had planned; foregoing proper testing of said patch so that we (the Fanatics) feel like we have some power, and end up with a jumbled, broken mess..... (Yes, I'm a little bitter about the last patch).

Good.

This thread shouldn't be the CivFanatics equivalent of the jumbled overinflated mess that is the Cebuano Wikipedia. Cebuano is the Filipino president Rodrigo Duterte's mother tongue.

Trung Trac, the elder sister, was the one actually proclaimed queen; I imagine that if they chose Vietnam and wanted a Trung sister they'd go with her. I could picture two leaders on one screen in Civ5 but not in Civ6. Lady Trieu would also be a plausible alternative.

It certainly would be a challenge with the current scale of leaders. I'm afraid with Civ 6 they also might be tempted to go a little more cartoony with the interaction between the two than might be appreciated.

Trung Sisters as a Civ6 leader? maybe, but they are equivalent to Boudicca for the Celts. They led a rebellion against Chinese rule and ultimately failed.
Sure, two Southeast Asian female leaders are welcome, but just don't make them too fanservicey if you know what I mean....
I would rather them be more like Tomyris as opposed to Cleopatra.

The devs are having a party to celebrate the XCOM expansion release. Alcohol is present. I am trying to encourage Pete on Twitter to have a drunken livestream.

So people can yell at them that they should be working on a breakfix for civ? ;P

I do miss having a job where alcohol-related celebrations on premises were a possibility (vs "it's an liability, we can have this definitely not work sponsored get together at the bar after work hours").

I was rather thinking to prey upon their reduced inhibitions to have an "Ed opens the civilopedia and reveals everything" moment.

Tbf, that's only fun when we already know what to expect and it confirms it (aka, the leader poster and Ed spilling the beans) or when it's just hints. Completely splurging something we didnt know about altogether is kinda lame! :p

Can you get them to explain the Nubia Civ symbol, because it seriously doesn't exist anywhere and makes no sense. Unless, of course, is about their amazing Wi-Fi....

I was going to make a fat joke about the Nubian icon in the symbology thread, but thought better of it. It was quite offensive.

I don't actually have a problem with Boudicca herself. I have a problem with the ridiculous stereotyped oversexed "noble savage" portrayal of her in both instances she appeared.

I wonder what clothing would be appropriate for the Trung Sisters if they were actually added. Chinese hanfu? Vietnamese Ao Dai? Or something more ancient?

I'm very curious as to why people always ask for Nixon; He is the only POTUS that has ever had to resign from office because of what he'd been doing, and he also had things like a secret police and everything, to the point where he spent his full first term secretly working towards being re-elected for his second term by whatever legal or illegal means possible. To me, he always sounds like a deceiving, power-hungry person who didn't really accomplish anything noticable. Not really what you're looking for in a Civilization leader, I'd say.

The Nixon administration reestablished diplomatic relations with China and also took the US off the gold standard and concocted the petro-dollar arrangement we currently have with Saudi Arabia. Nixon also signed the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts which led to the establishment of the EPA. In many, many ways he was a despicable man, but his fingerprints are all over the current global order.

Wikipedia suggests the correct attire would be áo giao lĩnh, but Firaxis might go with the áo dài just because it's iconic.

If the Trung sisters would be in the game, i wouldn't mind them to go towards the cartoon style.

this x 100

He is the worst president they ever had:
- rigged an election
- cuts in healthcare & civil rights
- installed a dictatorship in chile
- started the pointless war on drugs

Umm...

William Henry Harrison:
-Reads a 2 hour speech in the cold and rain
-Doesn't wear a coat
-Calls a special session of Congress (literally the ONLY thing he did)
-Dies after 31 days

Can we get back on topic? I wanted to mention James Buchanan and Warren Harding, but thought better of it.

And then mentioned them anyways.

I think it's on topic to mention the links between certain POTUS's and the SEA region, in the sense that many in these forums feel that relationships like those are driving some of the leader choices that Firaxis are making. I think it is therefore by extension also on topic to say I'd prefer not to have POTUS X as a leader cos of Y. Of course by extension that also makes criticism of Y valid as well....with in reason. Unless we are absolutely certain that any second leader is also coming from within the SEA region ( and we're not); then these discussions are relevant.

I think what helps in terms of any discussion -that narrows down from the central premise- is reference from the authors of comments that note why the have ended up stating something that could be seen as off topic. Anyone who is going to defend, say, why Nixon is a valid choice as a second American leader; should do so prefacing that their comments are assuming Vietnam as DLC 6, and offering that the "relationship" with Nixon therefore qualifies him as a candidate; before launching into why saying he was an awful President isn't fair in view of context Z.

I'd use something like this:

Assuming that Vietnam is the new Civ in DLC 6; and assuming that any second leader present is from outside the SEA region; I would like to advocate that Nixon is a suitable candidate for inclusion given the following context:

Before then writing my reasoning in normal black type. Anyone wanting to take issue with my post should likewise preface their comments so that it can be seen correctly in the context of the larger discussion.

I think if people voluntarily undertook to clearly preface what leads to some of these comments; it would make it less likely that actual trolls would get in among the genuine conversations and derail them. I hate how genuinely related opinions get bashed here because of concerns of thread derailment. The concern is genuine and fine; yet so are many of the opinions that bring on that concern.
