Do you believe in a god?

I both know and believe.

Given that apparently sane physicists are speculating on the possibility that we could one day create universes ourselves, I can't categorically rule out the possibility that our own universe came into existence by somebody's choice.

But I don't see any evidence that this is the case. Nor that such entity/entities has any of the salient attributes of a deity that would distinguish it/them from any sentient being.

I am agnostic on whether our universe was created intentionally by beings that 'exist' in higher dimensions or in other 3D universes. It seems plausible that it could happen

I don't think moral concepts are encapsulated in beings, any more than you think "tastiness" and "circleness" are personified.

I also don't think humans interact with 'unnatural' (or even non-terrestrial) beings.

So, I think this makes me a more severe version of an agnostic.

I believe in the Abrahamic God, but apparently one who is dramatically different to the Evangelical Abrahamic God. If that one is the real one, put me down as a non-religious believer in a benevolent higher power.

I'm a Christian, so of course, the answer for me is yes. :)

There was a higher power to create the starting mechanisms of the universe,, that much must be true--else, where are the origins of the beginning?

Also, if God is supposed to be omnipotent and above the level of humanity, why would he voluntarily reveal himself, and provide to us a manual of life? It just doesn't make sense that for the omnipotent being who offered us life as form of a "test," that we should receive all answers to the test immediately.

Anyway, those are a few reasons why I'm a Deist.

With what may come as a surprise to many posters here, I am Christian.

I'm not too shocked. I thought you mentioned it once.

I wouldn't consider your view on the OT, and particularly the historicity of it, as quite as important as accepting the NT. Jews and Muslims accept the OT, to varying degrees, but aren't Christian. Do you believe Christ died and rose again to save us from our sins? Do you believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? If yes, I would consider you a Christian, at least according to an emprical definition (The Evangelical theological position is that a Christian is someone who is saved, the answer to which is USUALLY "We don't know if (Person X) is Christian or not")

Not really. I follow a definite non-literalist view of the Old Testament anyway, and not many people even know I'm Christian. Which I find funny.

Why is it funny if you don't tell them?

I believe in the Abrahamic God, but apparently one who is dramatically different to the Evangelical Abrahamic God. If that one is the real one, put me down as a non-religious believer in a benevolent higher power.

You believe in the same God, you just don't apparently believe in His source of Salvation. So you're an Abrahamist, but not a Christian.

(Note: I'm pulling this from OTHER conversations moreso than this one statement.)

I went with the "higher powers" one, 'cause it's close enough. Much like the how the immense odds of the universe favor "aliens", which may be anywhere from Plankton-From-Another-Planet (oooooh!!!!), to maybe just vegetation, to the anal-yay obe-pray kind, it just as likely favors something "higher" than us.

Maybe, like psychics, or something. Or telekinetics, or even the lesser mutant powers like Jubilee, I find it hard to completely rule out a more evolved species. The vastness of the universe just seems to lean towards the possibility, if maybe not likelihood, that something we'd consider "higher" than us is out there.

OTOH I am pretty much atheistic in regards to Thor, Zeus, Thanos, Quetzalcoatl, Cernunnos, Jehovah, Shiva, Eingana, Superman, Ganesha, Paladine, Jupiter, Nanook, Anubis, Marduk, Torm, Daikokuten, Wodan, & R'hllor, to name just a few. I find most people agree with me on that list, often with only one exception. We have so much in common!

No, I don't believe in you. Also, solipsism is not a poll option, except for downtown.

Technically agnostic, effectively atheist, no longer interested in the arguments.

At my core, I'm an apatheist.

But I'm a conversational atheist.
