I have one. Her infancy was a nightmare, raised in her maternal grandmother's house in (a very stressful environment), nevertheless she's developing very well into a sweet, smart, creative little girl. I think she must have that resilient gene. I may want to have one more when conditions improve. Not sure though, it's a scary world our children are going to inherit.

Looks like I'm the only one who voted "I do have kids and I'm undecided on this poll".

I want them. So badly. My father was told he had a 2 in a million chance of having kids. Then me and my older brother came along. By rights, I ought not to even exist - so I want desperately to be a father. Hopefully(though I doubt it's possible) one as good as my dad is for me.

When they enter the school system and/or interact with other kids there own age. It will be a scary world for them once the bullying and the teasing sets in.

I was thinking more of climate change but yeah public school is scary too. Fortunately, unlike my own parents I'm actually going to spend time teaching my daughter social skills (and get her some practical self-defense training too).

I feel like I should have children, the idea of nothing of me living on after my death kind of bothers me. Also, I feel like it's such an important part of life that I would be missing out on and I'll regret it when I'm old if I don't have them.

All that considered, I don't really want to be bothered with having to look after children. They can be a major hassle. I've helped take care of my nieces before and all the crying, having to watch them all the time to make sure they don't kill themselves or tear something up, it's hell. They are really cute but I don't know if that's enough to make up for it.

Who knows what will happen in the future, at least being a guy I don't have to worry about the menopause cut-off date.

I think some of you are being too hard on yourselves, you think you have to be a perfect person to have children.

Ever feel like you should have kids so your parents could be grandparents? Or so your grandparents could be great-grandparents?

I sort of feel sad lately because my grandma is getting older (odd, eh?) and I'm the eldest male grandchild in the family. Also one of the two living fairly close to her, and it'd be cool to have my own kids so they could be my grandma's great-grandkids right about now. She's awesome, I bet they'd like her. :D

Children are expensive. I couldn't come close to affording my current standard of living if I had kids. As in so many things, the economic considerations apply. Most businesses don't provide health insurance for you dependents for free anymore, either. They can be fun, but there an awful lot of work and expense.

At least I'm helping the environment by not producing more people to use resources.

With my luck, all the child would get is what the child sees what I see and mirrors that :(. Almost like Back to the Future scenario with Marty and his father (Both lacking self-confidence and esteem). Of course before mucking the timeline.

CivGeneral, I commend you for recognizing your shortcomings but I pity you for feeling so hopeless about changing them.

It's probably too late for me. I'm way too old and everything (well in my mind) is just a ruin surrounded in a vast wasteland.

i feel the same way, but i have managed to get used to my life, for worse or better.
