Noticed that too, draws more attention to his tiny eyes.

He's a Midwestern progressive that knows how to speak to people. It's a great pick.
OK. I imagine I'll hear more about him; I just didn't think a guy who looks like Bernie Sanders sends jitters down anyone's spine but we'll see...As I said before I thought Josh Shapiro would've been safer but I guess Harris feels she already has this one locked up.

edit later sorry: BTW, "midwest progressive" to me is simply "he's got support in Minneapolis/St Paul". That may be good enough but I doubt folks from Iowa are falling all over him or something.

What makes you think Shapiro would be safer?

Walz seems much more of a progressive. I thought Shapiro was going to be the pick for sure so this is a bit of a surprise to me. Picking Tim Walz seems like the closest feasible to picking Bernie Sanders without just picking Bernie Sanders. The enthusiasm for Walz is really encouraging. I was a little worried that Shapiro was going to be seen as too much of a safe pick/compromise.

I share your suspicion that Biden's withdrawal timeline contained a clever trap.

I think Pelosi orchestrated the whole thing tbh, mad respect for her right now

I said this I think last thread you can call her many names but politically stupid isn't one if them. She's one if the most efficient politicians of the last 40 years

Hopefully Walz will bring WI and MI along with MN.

A Josh Shapiro pick [as I predicted but was wrong] would not have been a compromise so much as a broadening of the base and get people interested. I suppose a "compromise" would have been Harris picking some registered Republican. For we now have both candidates whose VPs do absolutely nothing for them other than encourage the people who are going to vote for them anyway.

btw, you would be correct, as Bernie Sanders has been advocating for Walz in recent days:

Walz is a more astute politician and media presence. He’s a good communicator and comes off as less fake than most politicians. He also understands political capital is meant to be spent. Think those - and him helping jump start calling Republicans weird - mattered more than actual ideology. And the fact that Shapiro apparently bombed the interview with Harris.
