So, did you add more friends, or lose a few since the last poll?

This time the poll is a bit more comprehensive, particularly for those who have less than 100 contacts there.

My own contacts rose from 52 to 83. I guess from now on i will be adding some readers, since a page is set to publish my facebook with a story of mine it is to host next month.

Poll will be up soon, just wait :)

edit: the second poll option should have been 1-25 instead of 0-25. No harm done i hope...

It seems like so many add anyone they find, even if they don't really know them, to their friends list for purely ego-driven reasons. I for one am proud that I only use that stupid site to reconnect with people that I have lost contact with. I will never have as Facebook friends people I know offline. I am proud to have fewer than 25 of them.

People need to resist the trend of replacing actual social contact with dehumanizing electronic contact.

Sometimes it is useful to have contacts with organizations you need for your work. Around 10 of my own "friends" are publishing houses and magazines/newspapers. The rest are people from school, and a few i still meet frequently.

Facebook is a scourge upon mankind.

Also, how many friends can someone actually have? I mean real friends. I doubt a person can be sufficiently close to be a friend with more than 50 or so people. Facebook is leading to a degradation of the word "friend."

It is not, though, about real friends, since most of the contacts are just people you used to merely know, or now know without being friendly with them.

Well, society is perverting more words than just "friend." Case in point, "perverting".

I think I said 245-250 last poll, just checked and it's 231.

I've really been thinking about deactivating/deleting my facebook as I'm tired of it, or like unfriending everyone except a few people (that would make me feel jerkish though). I don't as
Spoiler boring stuff :

1) it's good for contacting people (i.e. my friends). I don't have my friends' emails, so if they don't answer their phone or if it's convenient to message on facebook I can just do that.
2) Although I rarely talk to people I used to know (high school friends, etc), that option is still open.
3) I also like seeing some random news about some people, even if I don't really care (X got a job at ___? huh, whaduyouknow). Also, I'd expect to hear from some high school friends to be getting engaged or news like that where I'd like to hear (couples that have been together 3-4 years, seem serious, etc).
4) when you meet someone new, often they'll friend on facebook. It's just convenient

although people's habits on facebook are making me angrier than it used to (I hate when like 4 people say "did X with X, Y, Z" and they all make that their status and all "like" each others statuses. I don't want to see that type of spam).

Facebook is destroying the internet.

I think I'm at 19 or 20, but even that is too many. I'm currently deactivated on facebook, but I reactivate from time to time to look at pictures people upload. Facebook's only redeeming feature is it's a good place to look at pictures.

Even though I'm off facebook, I still voted 0-25 since I do check in occasionally. I couldn't stand to stay on facebook. My cousin is annoying, and posts so much crap. All she seems to care about is drinking and some hot guy she's with. I don't want to hear all that crap. I defriended her, but then she requested friends again. Grrrr. Someone told me there's a way to block a certain news feed, I may try that, but for now I'll stay off facebook.

If I were on all those fancy schmancy social media sites with like buttons, I would have pressed the like button for these posts. I'm not, so you'll have to settle for this: :goodjob:.

I find it very practical to keep track of certain printed/electronic magazine pages through facebook, instead of having to load separate pages in my browser since i am very lazy :D

Guys guys, calm down. There's no need to get so worked up over something as trivial as Facebook. You don't like it? Great. Don't use it.
