Guys guys, calm down. There's no need to get so worked up over something as trivial as Facebook. You don't like it? Great. Don't use it.

Not when it becomes nearly a requirement. I know of at least a dozen sites that use a damn Facebook commenting system. It's basically saying "Don't use Facebook? Your opinion don't matter."

So what's the problem? It's just as problematic as any registration system I can think of.

Too many people buy into the tabloid pieces which claim that Facebook will sell your soul to the FBI and that your life is now controlled by Big Brother.

That its hardly becoming a choice anymore whether to register to FB or not. I dread the day that a FB is required to do anything other than basic browsing.

I currently have 256 'friends', a number inflated by the presence of people I only knew in school. I'd like to shed a few, but at the moment I just have a large bloc of people whose posts are hidden from my newsfeed because they're the kind who spam those inspirational or 'message' posts. Is it just me or has facebook become the new way for people to force you to hear their opinions, like virtual bumperstickers?

I anticipate the number going up, but the relationships will be 'real', as I'm getting more involved in the local community.

You still haven't answered my question.

Yes I did. You asked "what's the problem." I said "it's becoming nearly mandatory."

I don't want a Facebook account. Stop trying to push me onto one.

126. I'm very picky about who I say "yes" to. If I have never met them, then no. If I have met them once, then it depends on whether I got to know them well enough. If I didn't like the vibe I got from them, then no. I say, "Will this person be a positive or negative influence?"

164 friends.

I really only use Facebook for easy contact with people, don't really post things or comment on things anymore.

I'm friends with 381 people on Facebook, some of whom I talk to due to the usefulness of facebook, some of whom use their statuses to quote important articles or complain about something at my school (so I know what's going on), some of whom have hilarious statuses, and others who never post anything (or only post things that I don't care about) but I'm too lazy to delete.
