Fall From Heaven NES

One turn in FfH is most likely along the line of month I believe, what with constellation events, they don't last for years. That and troop movements.

Don't really know. Few years? How long is one turn in FfH?

No one knows. And I doubt that it' same long for the whole course of the game. Few years at the beginning and few months in the end.

So...let's say that now its one turn = one growing period.

Anyway, do you like the province system or would you like more abstract one?

I recently had an idea to make a much more detailed map, with rivers, forests, cities, forts etc. all drawn in and named. Then we would have much more abstract model of movement and combat (you would advance down the Styl river and enemy would wait you at his Ettis fort, or you could move north to pillage gem mines) and conquests would be more realistic.

Economy model would remain the same - currently you only need to take care of your cities, outposts are deliberately not manageable. Nothing would change - instead of ordering farm or library built in province #XX you would order them built in (city name)

Only problem I see is with troop movements. But if we used common sense I think we can get over it. Also expansion would be more abstract - you order expanding north and depending on many factors, like money or terrain you grab an amount of land. This is perhaps even better than province system and expansion phase is mostly over anyway.

Opinions?

I'm Algeroth and I support this message.

Provincies are useful, their are good for territorial claims, for example I wouldn't get rid of them completly.

And one thing: We are advancing too fast IMHO. If you don't want to change rules we are currently playing with, you should make T3 and T4 technologies more expensive.

Tech trading do much ... (:

This can be nice. But I recommend to keep provinces as orientation points (for colonization, army movment, etc...)

If we started the expansion in the province-based system, we should finish it in the province-based system. We can use the new system for the "inward colonization" or whatever the name of this high middle-ages event is in English.

And to be honest: I'm little disappointed with expansion. It seems that there is only one instance of each resource in Erebus and it is completely free of all the Yggdrasils, Tombs of Sucellus and Broken Sepulchers...err forget about the Broken Sepulcher.

PS: According to the lore, Erebus is flat....

Nonsence .. (yes I know - there's dragons, magic, etc, there is no reason why would be flat world weird..., but Sunset / Sunrise ... eh? If this world is flat, there is only one Timeline - Day/Night in whole planet in one time ..., errr... Nevermind my post (again) :) )
I can't imagine this :crazyeye: ... only, that Erebus is only part of planet ... or what is on the end of world (Don't say that noone reach the end ... Ships, Flying creatures, Mage's eyes (Metamagic1), etc ...) - Know what? Nevermind my post (again) :)

Yeap, I thought about resources on the start. But this is my first nes so I was afraid of falling to a common pitfall of adding too much of everything beyond my ability to track all of it. Honestly I think it was a better decision than to add too much and destroy NES in the beginning.

And thinking about it, it wouldn't be too hard to add more resources now, as well as some unique features, which you would discover as turns pass.

Haha, how ironic. People got burned for claiming that world is round, as it was nonsense, now we can't imagine flat world.

Anyways, I want it round to make civs closer and have more active game/diplomacy. Flat world would make civs seem distant and isolated, and I don't really want that.

New map. Due to all the details, it has to be huge size. I don't know how big images CFC supports.

Taias Iosi blinked at the sun rising above the mountains on the other side of the valley. The construction of monastery there seemed finished but there was still too much stone and miniature figures to be true. "What they are still working on" he thought to himself. "Working on underground crypts? Rising the wall even higher?" He turned back and looked at his cave. "The Snake provides me all I needs. A shelter, a clean spring and various plants to cast away my hunger, create works in His name and even brig me closer to Him."

Then he turned back and watched the swarming people around the great building. Taias was curious what god they follow.Cheethtold him about various sects and denomination that swarmed these mountains recently. About worshippers of sacred flame ("Like the flame ever done anything else than consuming"), followers of book of Laws from their deity ("What wisdom they can found in dead book?"), dwarves that values gems and metals as a sign of a favour of their goddess ("This might be true, but she isn't the one who created the treasures of the earth.") and even dark tales about cultist drowning people in cave lakes for the whims of their numerous gods (He doesn't like even thinking about that). All of these people flocked to this region for one reason: Solitude. Sides of this mountains weren't fertile enough to offer an easy daily bread, but if one know where to look and adventured to nearest settlement to trade some of his supplies for good he can't get by himself few times a year the living here wasn't so far from decent.

His stock of oil was running out and he would normally set off to Anlec settlement to trade it for the herbs he harvested, but he was waiting for Cheeth. She visited his cave at this time of month and he didn't want to miss her. Even when your god calls you to live a life of a hermit, it's still pleasant to have some you can talk to. And when it's lamia, you can't disobey his will too much, do you? He hoped he didn't offended her in some way. When he was the high priest of the Snake in his home village, lamias that wandered there were pretty upset by the idea that they are some sort of divine creatures. To be honest, the fact that wield arcane power wasn't helping at all. After some ...misunderstandings they learned that lamias are just another part of His creation like the humans are. But Taias still suspect them from hiding something.

He recalled his old life and how he left it behind. It was just after the sowing and annual blessing of fields. He was preparing for the wedding of Snake's brides, but then he have the vision. Vision about drought, bad harvest and famine awaiting his people unless he create work which would capture the essence and history of Creation. So he promptly set forth and he ended here complementing the paintings in his cave. "I better should start working now, if I want to utilize the daylight in order to save some oil." Thought Taias to himself and he suddenly stopped. His reserves of purple paint. The only colour that he wasn't able to made from plants growing here. "Oh, Snake! Why couldn't you created some see-snail flower!"

Geogi Bandon riding in the head of caravan in the bottom of the valley towards Kwythellar was worried. His boss send him to buy mechanical gadgets and magical thingamajigs in Lurchip cities, but he was unable to sell them his goods. Whenever he came, there were already Blasperaphs traders who already sold the dwarwes anything he could offer them. He bought some of their gizmos for the gold he had and he traded his goods in settlements for medicaments and dyes. And although local herbs weren't so plentiful as in the southern provinces, this voyage made nice profit in the end. But Dwest will not be satisfied.
After the outbreak of Amurite civil war, the thin flow of enchanted items ceased. And the growing numbers of Kuriotate rich were willing to pay steep prices for it. And even if the Amurites refugees tried to extinguish their thirst for extravagant goods, the accidents were just too numerous and deadly to have any significant outcome. Anybody who would deliver a caravan of enchanted items would get filthy rich. And everything the Lurchips could offer were bought up by Blasperaphs. Geogi always wonder what these wacky clowns could offer besides maniacal laughter and practical jokes. But he could as well ask why dogs can't fly or why fish doesn't speak. Nobody will ever know. But it was sure that after they arrives to Kwythellar, Dwest will be shouting at him for several hours, and he wouldn't pay him the promised bonus. Yes, when Lilian married him, she knew well that travelling merchants aren't the best kind of husbands, but hell she deserve something better. And now when she's expecting his second child.....If the old, wrinkly, bearded son of a mole isn't going to pay him, he quits.

That would be wonderful. The resources aren't necessary, but IMHO this NES needs something to make exploration less dull.

The map:
Names of cities aren't readable you should make them red or something.
Names of rivers are hardly readable.
We should stick with the provinces in expansion.
Naggarond isn't bigger than Kwythellar.
Is possible to have a vegetation in the map (forests, hungles...etc.?)

Well, I always thought that these cities are just the commercial hubs of empire and there are many other insignificant cities and villages. Dotting the map shouldn't be problem.

I like the feel of the open map, but I'd keep the provinces for colonization and city management, and the open map for military.
