Fall From Heaven NES

Nice report as usual Jopa. And the map is wonderfull. But to clarify things: The reddish thing is copper, and the statue in Grigori land is marble?

And Cardith Lorda would like to express his gratitude over the Khazad – Malakim Treaty. He recognizes them as a sovereign nation and guarantees their independence on any earthly kingdom.

Thanks. Red is copper and statue is marble. In the end you guessed everything so I did a decent job :)

Please can you make it clear exactly when the deadline for orders is? How am I meant to know when to send them if you don't give a clear deadline?

Map: How it's with "control-area" of cities? Take the province 30 as an example. In old system, I could have both fisheries and be able to use spice plantation. But now, it looks...strange.

Also, you should set down minor settlement, cities and vilages to make this map looks less empty.

Well you said you would send orders 'tomorrow' but haven't sent them even day after it.

When I post a list of needed orders I expect them ASAP. I don't know when is the deadline or update as update depends on my free time, and I'd hate to unnecessarily set the deadline day or two earlier, basically you can send orders minutes before update, but I do expect them in soon, in a reasonable time. I think that there is enough time between the updates, always at least 3-4 days.

Spices should be moved a bit north, but basically it's it - your city would be on coast and farms south, city needs not to be on spices. Also, city could be somewhere in the middle, and fishing villages on the coast, that's also possible.

I'm all for more details. If you want to name your villages, you are free to do so, and post their location.

If your city has 3 or more villages you need not to post every one. It's just big villages that are on map, and 'building a village' can also mean that you are upgrading existing. Just try to make map look more interesting and don't pressure yourself with gameplay. Flavorful name is important. 'New York' is not a good name for any village, and so isn't 'Killer Thunder Razor Town'.

Also, I WILL add roads and such, it will hopefully provide some integrity.

// Message to all nations
As you know, there's large pirate settlement near our mainland. I propose to attack them as soon as possible, because as they grow they're cause bigger problems.

Marksman:Yes, the nerf is little harsh, but the slavery was the only Labour civic without drawback.

I think the nerf of Slavery is too hard. Not to mention it occurred just after I switched  Every cool kid had a chance to taste the sweet fruits of slavery, but me :(

Maybe make it cut cost of improvements by half and cost of buildings by 20%?
I believe it was needed. It was totally overpowered and favored some civs in particular (I can't imagine how Luchuirp would react to slavery for instance, when they can build golems, so they'd basically be paying twice as much as anyone else to build anything unless they accepted a huge stability hit?). Even at 20% it remains very strong. Just compare it to all other civics.
I was going to ask that it be changed because I've been checking all the civics and with a 50% cost reduction, none would make sense but slavery, which doesn't fit with the roleplay I want for the Khazad.

You can always blame the reduction on the Kuriotates and their emancipation stuff. ;)

I have a question about the rivers on the map.
Several seem to branch? I understand that for a delta like the black marsh area, but otherwise, rivers don't normally branch (except in flat lands for small lengths when the flow is slow). Is it the same river that flows from Hanging Mountains to Coombe View and Jubilee?
Is the flow of the Khaz river from the Lake towards the Upper Khaz?
Does the Fannir just split in two?
What's between short and long Icea? Is it the same river?
It really looks very stange to me.

I do :D

All the civics have their advantages.
Military state gives military bonuses without disadvantages.
Caste system gives whatever you work out.
Serfdom is also good.

Maybe the problem is we are all too much builders and not warmongers? Then other civics would be used more commonly.

Yes, they are strange but after closer look, the only weird one is the in Balseraphs lands.

Khaz seems flowing from the lake to see. And the river from Khazaak is flowing into it (And then the river should be named lower Khaz)

Fannir is...unusual. It looks like it's splitting into two. We could have, of course, two nearly parallel rivers....but i can survive with one splitting river.

Icea should be flowing to ocean an from the Chasan lake should be flowing new river toward Kwyth...... and grigori lands. It could be an Icea too if the C. Lake would be supplied from icea source too.

Well marksman no one saved more than few gold, if that comforts you:) I did this preemptively. Military state reduces income.

I'll check the rivers

Hi all,
I'll be joining as the Amurites to replace Thomas.

I've compiled what i know about the Amurites in this game and added a little of how i think their government might recover from the recent civil war.

Turn 4 Report

A New Religion

A new religion, The Order Of Junil, appeared on Erebus. Their faith spreads rapidly and followers diligently work to spread their word. Order also spread to Amurite lands, where it was immediately repressed, so it keeps spreading in silence, its members hiding from government and working on overthrow of corrupted magocracy.

Turn 6 Report

Amurites and the Order
The Order of Junil, although hidden, managed to grow enough to pose some problems to the government. They launched a series of attack on wizard towers, libraries and even trade routes. Especially if funded by foreign powers, they could grow very strong very quickly. For now, they were dispatched, but not without costs.

End of Turn 7

Amurite Caswallen dead, country facing civil war

Thomas the Caswallen, ruler of the Amurites, was found dead in his chamber. No traces of violence were found and most people say he died by natural death but it is not easy for Caswallen to die of old age, especially not if he practiced unholy magic. Some say it was demon pact that caught him, some say assassination.

Either way, his right-hand Tyrion Cavros was viewed as a decent successor by the most powerful mages, so he took the office and proclaimed himself Tyrion the Caswallen. However some saw this as their opportunity, and the country is slinking into the civil war.

On west, Valedia the Even, former Royal Steward and Chancellor gathered it's forces. She is seeking to establish an Aristocratic Republic, as in old ways of the Amurites, and to break off the demonic pacts. She is supported by the lower nobility, mages, merchants and burghers, and partially by the peasants.

On east, Nicholas Cassel gathered followers of the Order, and is seeking to establish a rightful and holy Amurite State. Supported by lower classes of peasants and craftsmen, and by most merchants, they are opposed by almost all aristocrats because of their plans to stamp out all aristocratic privileges and make all equal before the law, and are also viewed with suspicion by most mages for their reliance on priests and not mages.

Either way, hard times are before Amurite people

End of Turn 8

Amurite Report

Amurite Civil War is raging on. On the west, Valledia's forces, led by Captain Borcus kept marching towards Cevedes largely without any resistance. Army was reinforcing with volunteers at every liberated village. Finally, when Cevedes itself was in danger Tyrion decided to assemble an army of his most powerful mages and to push Valledia's forces out in single decisive battle.
Borcus had an army of 12.000 men, most of them were peasants with poor equipment, and a core of the army was made of mercenary horsemen that were hired by citizens and merchants that supported Valledia. Tyrion had merely 5.000 men, peasants and foot mercenaries.

But when the battle started, skies darkened and winds rose. Banners of the True Sunrise, new Republic flags without crimson Veil references on them and enchanted to glow at night were now flapping and dancing on the wind. Then hell broke loose from the sky, with raging thunders striking into very heart of Borcus's army.

Tyrion used this fear and confusion and ordered a charge. Backed by seven towering demons from hell itself, he tore through Borcus army like through butter. The rest of the battle was mindless slaying and running for life. Peasants were routing, and Valledia forces were now pushed about 100 miles away and split in two. It took a while before mercenary riders and mage-refugees put an end to this counter-attack.

On east, however, Tyrion front was weakened and Order troops, thousands of milita peasants backed by priests and armored Crusaders, won almost every battle and captured a major Amurite city of Nimarail. Cassel's plan of establishing a Theocracy could become a reality.

End of Turn 9

Amurite civil war is drawing to an end. Tyrion turned his attention east, to what he percieved as more dangerous and harder-to-negotiate opponent. They met in an open battle on Big Weed Grasslands, huge open fields full of uncontrolled wild weed that prevented all other vegetation from growing. The battle was fierce, mages on one side and crusaders on other, but in the end Tyrion suffered so many losses that further advance became impossible.
On the other side, Valledia took control of the Rat Pass between mountains of west and East Cheremisa. Controlling the Rat Pass, everything south of it became easy to take, and cut off their supplies Tyrion troops either surrendered or retreat to Cevedes. City of Cevedes is under siege and a small strip of land is all what remained of Tyrion's influence.

In such circumstances Valledia and Cassel met and started negotiating. Cassel was willing to step out of his plans of Theocracy and accept Republic if the Order became a state religion, the Faction of Junil became a prominent faction, and if right to vote was given to everyone above income census, so that merchants and priests would have right to vote, and not only mages. This was taken even further as Cassel requested the abolishment of aristocracy and all their privileges, making all people equal before the law. This was accepted by Valledia as, in her opinion, Amurites never had a formal aristocracy, it's establishment is an evil deed of Thomas the Caswallen. This naturally pissed of the mages. They both agreed to abolish all forms of slavery and serfdom. New flag would be the Banner of True Sunrise. Ashen Viel and Emyrs practices would be forbidden.

Problems that would remain were necromancy practices. Valledia desired a state control over them, but still make them legal, while Cassel argued that they must be abolished. Cassel also wanted to transfer a part of judicial power to the Inquisition. Valledia wanted to abolish the position of Caswallen, as „Head of State is to be elected, like a true leader, not to decided by ancient trials, like some wild chieftain“. Mages were unhappy with their loss of privileges. Also, peasants felt betrayed as they would, as it stands, still have no right to vote, despite republic. But as it stands there won't be war between this two factions

A general election was held amongst the Amurite people with merchants, nobles, priests and scholars/mages all represented. Several candidates were presented, but in the end, the victor was ‘Yilderum Camil’ Yilderum was a noble and a commander in Vallendia’s armies but even prior to the civil wars, he had been an outspoken proponent of the mass of the people, commoners and tradesmen alike. He was a favorite of the guilds, whom he vowed to empower.

Yilderum Camil became, Yilderum Camil, first speaker under the banner of the true sun.

Establishment of a leader led the establishment of a parliament. Representatives of the merchant houses, noble houses, priestly orders as well as the entrenched members of the magocracy would all make their voices heard.

One of the first orders of business was to ensure continuity of government. Political roles had to be assigned.

Noble houses would no longer have a role to play in politics based simply upon their family name. Their land holdings, military power, and contributions to trade and the economy would be the sole determining factor in their political voice.

Priestly orders were to be well defined. Priest of every religion, including those of Junil would be unable to levy any sort of tithe upon the population, nor would they be allowed to collect financial donations or land holdings. Believing followers are free to provide shelter and food as well as labor without limit. In addition to payment and support by the state, the various churches financial spending must come from their own funds, the source of which is limited to their proficiency in agriculture, trade and production as well renumeration by the state for services. The state will reimburse the churches (all o them, not just that of Junil) for contributions to the state (such as regiments of priests for the support of the military or the pay of a village priest to assist the people).
So, the state is the church, but the church isnt the state.

In recognition of the compact made by Vallendia and Cassel, the only state-sponsored religion, ie the only religion which would be supported financially by the state, would the Order of Junil (though this is not a law per say)

The merchants would choose representative amongst themselves, with each merchant grouped into a ‘guild’. These guilds were meant to minimize competition and to encourage cooperatively within the economic sector. In addition, they would help organize the political voice of the trading class.

The mages also formed themselves into a guild and while many complained that their voice carried little political voice in the senate, it is said by many that Yilderum bends an attentive ear to what they have to say.

I've recieved a PM from a player in regards to trade routes, but i have yet to see the stats for the amurite republic. Also, i think the Jopa wants me to wait one turn before i submit orders.
If this changes, i would be glad to discuss trade.

Hi, Immaculate, nice writeup!
Yeap, you can make only unofficial deals this turn, but don't let it prevent you from negotiating.
You mentioned guilds, I had them in plan for latter on, just FYI.
Have in mind, more tolerance=less zeal=less benefits and happiness for state religion followers. And vice versa.

@ el jopa

Can you send me the stats for the amurites? It would make negotiation and trade much easier (possible?) for me.

Can i still organize the traders and mages into guilds anyway or do you want something else?

More tolerance is good. I hope to move away from Cassel's plans for the empire. In my mind the order doesn't fit amurite society very well and i think it would actually be a detriment- i'll just have to reduce their power slowly so they don't start agitating again.

How are people doing tech-trades? Just arrange them in PMs then include them in orders?

Immac.

Yes. Well I do know for sure that some rivers DO branch, maybe thats not quite often but it's not like I made em flow upwards. You are right it's not as common as here, but not really an issue IMO.

Is the flow of the Khaz river from the Lake towards the Upper Khaz?
River Khaz flows from Khazak and part of it branches northwest. Looking at it, North Khaz or West Khaz is more appropriate.

Does the Fannir just split in two?
Yeap, to upper and lower. Due to purple borders, it's not well visible, but it's NOT connected to Witch creek.

What's between short and long Icea? Is it the same river?
Same, that flows through Kwyithelhelar. Divides city.

Hm, I should really add more joining rivers than splitting. Also no river (here at least) flows FROM lake. It could flow, it the lake was on mountain.
