Fall From Heaven NES

Tiny voice: welllll..... Thejopa said that he was on to dice rolls and that he was workng on a story of some sorts so I assumed........

Balance of powers will be shifted, so after it's updated, you can pick your civ. Former players have their civs reserved, of course they can give them up if they want to and take new ones.
I read this as TheJopa wanting to run it again, which is why I didn't start anything new. If he's done writing a story and doesn't want to continue, we will see.

To release the pressure, expect story tonight. Whether I manage to finish it all until tonight or it will only be a part of it, we will see but in any case it is already few pages long ;)

EDIT: In the new world order, there is one nation that may be called a winner of NES, due to becoming most prominent.
It does not mean it will remain strong until the end.. Can you guess which nation it is until story is up?

It's either the Bals or the Amurites. My money's on the Bals, actually - I have some small hope that my little war with Immac would have had to weaken him somewhat. I know, I know... I shouldn've picked my Lanun, but frankly, I think we were kind of screwed in the long run.

Odds:
Bals - 4:3
Amurites - 3:2
Lanun - 4:1
Khazad - 5:1
The rest - 20:1
Calabim - 70:1 (hehehe...)

EDIT: And I'm getting all excited, now...

I'd say Amurites based on techs although stability looked low. Bals didn't have much in terms of tech if I'm correct. Other candidates would be Lanun, then Balseraphs, then Sidha, then Khazad.

patria or illians

The Lanun-Amurite crisis did escalate into war. Lanun were not intending to return Rinwel Isle to Amurites, and Amurites firmly decided that their occupation forces are to stay on the isle. Lanun High command and officers were demanding retaliation, and they have gained it.
War was declared at the Year 351. of Rebirth, and lasted three years. To put the story short, war ended up with complete Lanun victory, with Amurites suffering a devastating defeat. Amurites had initial sucess, causing trouble with shadow mages, but Lanun were much better prepared for the war- after winning two decisive naval victories, first taking place south of Kingsport, and second fought near Shores of the Manticore, Amurite fate was sealed – their trade income was halted, and Amurites became easy target for pillages and raids. Even more important, they were torn between fighting Orcs, Patrians, as well as internal dissenters – both those demanding return of Republic, and those demanding return of Caswallen.
Amurites were completely powerless. A former juggernaut was standing fragile and shattered. The newly established priest and mage government was extremly unpopular, even more so as it appeared that it led Amurites into devastating war. Multiple coups were attempted every year, either by Patrian supporters, or by Casswallen supporters, or Republicans. All attempts failed, but each one led to a new wave of unrests. Finally, in the winter of Year 352. Amurite government was forced to back down – to prevent second civil war from breaking out, priests and mages that ruled Amurites abdicated in the favor of Republicans – Second Republic was established, with all laws and rules that applied before the coup. Although traditionalists favoring Caswallen were still unhappy, peasants that were supposed to defend Amurite lands were much more content.
Though Amurite army defeated Orcs near Cirial, Amurites were not strong- desertions and military revolts became common until Republic was reestablished. At that point, however, it turned out it was too late. At the spring of year 353. Lanun forces started landing on Amurite shores – Cevedes, Nimarail, Udenarat, Ciriail all came under siege, at the same time when Patrians occupied lavish part of Amurite lands on north.
Under such conditions, with no foreign help comming, new Amurite Senate had no option but to seek peace, if they didn't want to see their cities falling to Lanun troops. Lanun recieved a peace offer – and it was a good peace. There was only one condition- Patrians shall be kept off Amurites.
As a part of this peace agreement, Senate became populated by many Lanun Senators. Lanun secretly had effects on elections, and Senate became a puppet of Lanun. Still, they faced some very real problems – Amurite treasury was broke, owing thousands of golden coins to various merchants and usurers, while still being forced to pay great tributes to Lanun, and restore what was lost in war. And not to mention dealing with ever militant mages.
On the 'positive' side, power of Order was broken- people lost faith in the priests that led them to defeat, and power of crusaders and priest dimnished. Senate turned over to Kilmorph, and Khazad and Luchuirp gold, to save state from bankrupcy, and people started to turn to Lugus and even Tali. Lanun used their influence over Senate to encourage this – Property of Order was soon confiscated and their temples taken over by state. Senate even arrested many powerful Confessors and thrown them into dungeon, under suspect of 'treason', just to get their wealth. In return, that wealth poured again back into Lanun coffers.
This had another effect – demon worshipping was left unchecked, and mages seeking only power soon run rampant. Rumors about infernal pacts and blood sacrifice were common, there were many reports of abduction, victims soon found slain in gory ways.
In the Year 355. another coup was attempted by mages. This time it had much larger support as many educated mages wanted to take down Lanun-controled Senate and let Amurites be free again. Coup would have suceeded if Lanun haven't intervened and joined forces with Amurite government.
Coup only succeded in Acaia, where remaining rebels retreated. Amurites were unable to reach rebels in Acaia. Lanun troops were just about ready to squash this rebellion, but just days before invasion troops were called off- New Acaia government offered themselves as vassals to Lanun, and Lanun figured out that it is in their best interest to keep Amurites as divided and weak as possible. Rebels named their new split-off country Eastern Amuritia, and established true magocracy with aristocratic hierarcy, and powerful Casswallen position. First Caswallen was Erik the Caswallen. Eastern Amuritia soon became destionation of many corrupt mages. After death of Erik, Eziell won the position of Caswallen (many would say, not by skill like a leader, but by trials, like a chieftain). It was known that Eziell was worshipper of Agares, and he begun many reforms. He also changed ancient flag and Amurite symbol, Sunrise, to represent Agares colors, and renamed state to Amuritia Sheaim (meaning True Amurite State).

In the first years immediately after Amurite-Calabim war, Calabim state was falling into state of deliberate isolation, deciding it was best to keep silent and recover what was possible to recover. Diplomatic neutrality was attempted, but very soon it became impossible. As soon as Lanun-Amurite war broke out, both sides wanted Calabim on their side. Neutrality soon became impossible, and Calabim have decided to support Amurite side. That decision has sealed their fate.

Calabim state was extremely ill prepared for possible war. Without Acaia, there was shortage of food, peasants were hungry, and rations were reducing. Times have changed, peasants soon discovered another face of Vampire rule. Famine, violence and repression came in. Dissilusioned that Vampire protectors can not protect their borders, and that they can not secure food, peasants thought of ending their rule. In return, Vampires responded with brutality, public hangings and executions. Terror has spread.
After intervention in war, both peasants and vampire nobles became furious that former enemies became allies- they wanted revenge, and they wanted Acaia back. More so after it turned out that Amurites are on the losing side. Naval blockade stopped trade and import of food, famine became widespread. Rebellions run rampant, and after each hundreds of peasant bodies ended up impaled on stakes or beheaded.
To end this obvious disaster and downfall of Calabim, some Calabim nobles, vampires, attempted and succeeded in a coup. Peace was signed with Lanun, with great costs. At that time, Lanun were sieging Amurite cities.
This did not bring peace for Calabim. Rebellions continued, and in Year 354. Calabim commander, non-vampire, refused to attack peasants attacking Palace in Prespur. As a result, Calabim government collapsed once again. Human rule was established, but it was never enforced as many warlords followed their own agenda and another Civil War took place.

Vampires run into Amurite state, and Acaia. But seven Vampires headed instead for Pinea, where strife still held on. Even after decisive battles, fightings continued in forests and marshes. Both Lanun and Balseraph had another issues at the time, so their funding stopped- that made it impossible for any side to enforce total rule. Instead region degraded to place of death, violence and anarchy. Pro-Balseraphs distanced from Perpentach, insead becoming more centered towards mad religion of water god Danallin. Sidha deliberately took distance from the events, persuing isolation to maintain internal stability.
Seven Calabim vampires saw their opportunity there and ventured there. To gather influence, they abandoned the idea of protecting the secret of Gift and spreaded Gift to all prominent elves who were there. After one year, there were 45 elves with the Gift, after two, there were 430.
Soon they fielded armies of peasants and took control over most populated area. Even though both mad cultists and freedom-loving elven peasants still lurk the forests, Vampires rule the nation. In the meantime, new elven Vampires figured out that they no longer needed human Calabim Vampires, so original seven were less and less prominent, forced to retire in their manors. After some time, elven vampires begun to fear of returnof human vampires, and their possible return to power. Four of original seven were executed in one night, and three were returned to former Calabim nation, to be given to furious peasants, who brutally executed them and their families. Extreme nationalistic and rasistic policies begun in Pinea, humans were enslaved, but non Vampire elves did not fare much better. New kingdom was named Calalfarl.

Doviello were much much more brutal and violent then anyone could ever imagine. Sweeping through northwest, killing and enslaving and raping whatever they could get, Grigori culture became completely destroyed and non existant, with only last bastion of Grigori language remaining inside Lanun borders, on isle of Hammerfell. True defenders of humankind became Orcs- the Orcs of Shazaak were the only one bold and strong enough to match Doviello. Working together with human part of Shazaak and with more and more other human allied nations, Doviello were first stopped at the gates of Free City of Avelorn. Siege of city failed, as allied nation fought off Doviello with tremendous casualties. Territory of Free City soon degenerated into a warzone, with both sides fighting, skirmishing and killing. But the city had not fell so far.

Perpentach has always had mad ideas. So he finally decided it was time to add Malakia Sands to his kingdom. Entering the deserts with almost no resistance, huge but desolate areas of land with only few nomads were soon to become Balseraph territory.
Khazad were tied with Malakim tribes with the treaty- they were not to allow any foreign force to enter Malakia.
This did not work so well in practice. With Doviello threatening from the north, and Malakia actually being non important trade partner, Khazad leadership did not want to intervene. But dwarven populace was on the uproar- they were bound by honor, and they were demanding that Khazad must keep their word. So war was declared on Balseraphs. Only few weeks later, two battles near Tagaste ensued. Balseraph were soundly defeated- Tagaste was under siege. But before city was to fall, news arrived- Khazad were attacked. Doviello knew no borders, and Doviello were approaching Rylod. Khazad were forced to seek peace, and to leave Malakia conquered. A new, much more dangerous war started.

Perpentach is still considering his options- will he wait until cese fire of one year expires, and then seal Khazad fate, or join forces to stop Doviello from becoming worst threat ever? But in any case he had yet another change of heart – he begun pouring massive ammounts of cash into Malakia deserts, building irrigation, villages and tents, and providing livestock. For the first time, Malakim are under single rule, united and with money to build themselves up- can they use this opportunity to actually step on the Erebus stage as a power, or will Perpentach crack down on this?

Only one that were not concerned by Doviello were Lanun- safe over their seas, Doviello can only, after all, sail to inland if Lanun let them be. After seeing sheer power of Doviello, Lanun became just a bit more careful and restriced number of ships that were allowed to travel from north, but at that point Doviello were already strong. Lanun still watch at this devastation with amusement- captains cheer their ingueniosity over glasses of fine wine, safe behind their watery walls, seeing their opponents crushed, and receiving many pillaged goods from Doviello raids in exchange for allowing the Doviello to sail. Will Lanun work to ally Doviello even more, or to stop them from becoming most dire threat to humankind?

In any case, Lanun emerged as a sole superpower, no one being even close to touching them. They controled virtually entire world trade, taxed every ship that ever set sail, and flew their blue banner into every single world port. Massive, massive ammounts of cash poured in- their cities will soon outmatch Kuriotates in height of their strength. Can Lanun keep corruption and hunger for power down and keep their empire strong?

They even wondered where do Doveillo sail. If Doviello can do it, so can Lanun. They soon built light ships like Doviello had, and set sail up north, to learn that Mulcarn shards are melting at certain parts, and to learn that there is actually land up there. Lanun are the only ones with maps of that new area, and they keep it secret. There is still much more to dicover. And there is even possibility to trade with those wild people, even if they value no gold, and can be barely understood. Or perhaps possibility to invade those people.
Luchuirp are another nation that prospered in the years that passed. Continuing isolation, they were only wasting their energy on constant squables among three city states. But on the wings of growing economic prosperity, no one cares about minor merchant rabbles. Dwarves are prosperous, and for the first time Luchuirp have assembled an army of golems to defend their borders. They may need many more though- there is a call to aid Khazad brothers in fight against beast Doviello.

Hippus were thorn three ways when Amurite-Lanun war started. Uneasy peace between pro-Lanun and 'traditional Hippus' against Patria did work, and Hippus both fought Amurites and Patrians. After Lanun agreed to keep Patria off Amurites (and it was not an easy decision- it was most debated and an idea was to create great continental Patrian Empire that would hold Amurite, and even Hippus and Calabim state and would act as a puppet of Lanun), Patrian uprising was defeated. Extremely anti-Patrian traditionalists wanted to take power in Hippus now, but Lanun managed to use their new influence to argue, correctly, that traditionalists want to decentralize Hippus back into tribes and undo whatever good Brandon did. in the end, after a bit of tension, Hippus essentially became just what they were before great Brandon was killed- centralized despotism, which was an improvement over anarchy of tribal leaders. After all, with strong Lanun on their side, Brandon followers couldn't possibly lose, even if it meant that Lanun would sent in the troops.
However, traditionalists won't let it go so easy. They are likely to attempt to take power if opportunity will arise, and although Patria is now lost cause, it is not forgotten, and it has once again most followers in Hippus and Amurite state.
Kuriotates are still ruled by their regency coucil, a nation in her decline. As only positive goal, they managed to take control of their lands, with help of Khazad, and subdue all ongoing rebelions, even Marekka. With threat of Doviello, no new rebellions are likely, but that does not stop Doviello from breaking in and taking what they want from Kuriotates.

Sidha is another nation that prospered, more so domestically than economically. Focus was put on food, and foreign isolation. They did not intervene in Pinea-Calalfarl, and not even in Calabim. Two courts now rule in harmony, or better said, without major conflicts. Can that go on?

If I was to continue playing as the Calalfarl could I possibly make some changes to how they were formed? Just because what you've basically done was make them the Calabim except with elves, and I'd prefer to create something more new and interesting.

The main differences would be probably a much smaller number of Vampiric Elves with better conditions for non-Vampiric Elves, and possibly having Danailin worship more prominent.

I might also want to change the name.

Also, it might be interesting if a huge vampire hunt had occured in Old Calabim, perhaps with Lanun support, and every Vampire was stamped out except for a small number (3-7) who fled to Pinea, perhaps part of some sort of cult, perhaps lead by Asterna, the Elven wife of King Agron. Old Calabim would be ruled by the Council of Man which never quite took off under Vampiric Leadership.

I'd really appreciate some creative license to make a really new and unique nation.

If you are going to continue this NES anyway.

Yeah, ummm... the jopa... are you offically gonna commit to continue this project?

Also, nice story; i didn't really have any expectations but i definately didn't expect such a lopsided victory and total world domination for the lanun. Congrats orange.
:trophy2:

To me, it sounds like your stability became a real issue, although my naval victories certainly didn't hurt. You can't beat luck, I guess. The problem not is deciding what to do next.

The Calabim... that was an interesting event. A Vampiric regime that was supplanted, only to be swiftly replaced by a Elven Vampiric regime. That's just entertaining.

The long-expected Khazad-Balseraph throwdown flopped, which is kind of a bummer. Still, the Doviello seem to have made up for it quite well.

Speaking of that, what is the status in the north right now? Grigori are basically gone (except for minor influence in Hammerfel), Marreka is gone, Patrians are gone - but what of Shazaak and Avelorn? It sounds like the orcs have been fighting the beastmen to a standstill in the Free City, but does that mean that Avelorn is now a Shazaak province? The Kuriotates are still weak, I see. Poor guys.

Oddly enough, I had always had plans to go to Mulcarn's Shards - I'd even had a bare-bones story written about it. I just always had better things to spend money on, like war.

EDIT: and so long as I won the war.. I don't suppose I could take claim to Faenig Isle too?

EDIT#2: and I'm still pumped that this isn't dead. FFHNESI - Mach 2 begins!

98 isn't so low... i think it was just the story more than anything else, but then, what do i know?

It's because you were so much more powerful then everyone else and you needed to be cut down to size :p.

ummm yeah... thats its... :) i didn't have huge fault lines running through my civ at alll... :)

Soooo.... now what? What are people supposed to do? Will you be accepting any new people Jopa? because I am definately interested.

Yeah, well, my stability was at like 112 or something. Just a little bit higher... granted, that's before that last -5 hit from the last update, but still quite good. Plus, I didn't have Patrians to deal with, or renegade mages. Only the Grigori in Hammerfel, and they're probably just happy that they weren't killed off by the Doviello.

[sheepish]i know- i checked [/sheepish]
