Fall From Heaven NES

Well,

I wanted to say thank you for putting this on Jopa.
Last night when i was waiting for the update, there were a sizeable number of players from this game logging on (and off and back on) to the never ending stories sub-forum and i am sure it was to see the update.
I know that you are doing this for your own enjoyment but i just wanted to say how much I (we all) are enjoying this game. I look forward to the updates and i enjoy the diplomacy. The stories are great and so is the system.
Anyway, just to say that i appreciate the time and the considerable effort that goes into this project. Please continue for a long long time.

Oh yeah, and i hope you got home alright in the end.

i.

I agree totally, this has been my favourite NES of all time so far. Now I don't play a huge amount of NESes but still, after only actually being part of the NES for a few turns, I still think that is saying something.

Thanks Jopa!

To The Lanun
From King Agron the Successor

We congratulate you on your great success in the Kuriotate lands, and thank you for the unexpected gift of slaves captured from this dying nation.

To The Amurites

We see no need for war between our people, We hope you will be willing to negotiate freely with the new government on the subjects of improving our relations and a possible lift of the Great Embargo in coming months. Afterall, the embargo is hurting your merchants and people far more then it hurts the Calabim, as for the Calabim the Crown will provide. Who will provide for the Amurites?

Any space at the inn for me to play?

I heartily agree, on both points. Great NES, and good luck getting home.

Thanks, I think. And you're welcome.

For my two cents, I agree with the second part of this as well.

Any space at the inn for me to play?

Probably not, sorry. Jopa's been pretty consistent is saying he doesn't want to get another player in the game right now. He's got enough to deal with as it is, with the rest of us being a pretty fractious group. That being said, Jopa may have miraculously changed his mind.

However, there is always the chance that one of the current players will decide to retire, and if that should happen I would expect that you'd be welcome to take his spot. There may be a line, though... ;)

In other news:

To the Grigori: I do most definately take your little escapade as an act of war. I have nothing against surprise attacks, but sending that "secret letter" beforehand was dirty. I keep my word when I give it.

To the Amurites: Congratulations on another successful election.

To the Alvarlians: Congrats on your newly united nation.

To the Balseraphs: I would strongly encourage you to keep out of wars that don't involve you.

Now, off to bed. :p

Despite some minor protests, i can assure you that our merchants are as happy and productive as ever. Our newly commissioned trade fleets have greatly improved our trading capacity and we are trading at 'full strength'. Regardless, this should not be your concern.

Instead, lets talk about negotations to improve relations. Despite the recent changes to your administration, we still feel that you have not included the welfare of the common man as a priority for your government.
Lets start with the issue of Kuriotate slaves. These were purchased from the Lanun after having had their homes and livelihoods destroyed and have not broken any Calabim laws. What will you do with these people?

Slavery has always been legal in the land of the Calabim, and no man be they human or Vampire has ever been penalised for keeping them. Most of the nations of the world have used slavery to make up the majority of their work force in oder to boost development at some point in time, and now it is the turn of the Calabim. We will accept this gift from the Lanun gratiously, and assign these slaves to work forces throughout the Empire.

Slavery is a better option then suffering the pits, surely? Prisoners of War handed over to the Calabim during the Alexian Era would have faced far worse then Slavery. You should view this as an important step forward in the history of the Calabim, and even the descendants of these slaves will thank us for our practises in the long run.

Of course, I do not expect the Amurites to even consider the grand scale of things, you fools are far too busy living for the present, while we, the mighty Calabim, look back upon our great history, we learn from our mistakes, and we plan for our future.

Thankyou.

Thanks all! :) It is certainly nice to hear that my work is appreciated. I did not get to my 'real home' this weekend, I stayed in 'capital home', but never mind, there is always next week. Real hustle was negotiating the airline company about refund, but fortunately I got that done.

About new players, I'm a bit capped. But there seems to be constant interest, so it's not impossible, with some steps, like halving the trade routes etc. I could streamline NES enough to open room for two or three new players. Being familiar with the FfH lore is a requirement, though. (I'm not at all sticking close to the lore, but knowing your civ is important. I'm particularly fond of deviations from the cannon that actually could happen, based on the cannon.)

Not wanting to sound harsh, but I think I'd prefer to keep the number of players at this level, I think we have the perfect amount right now. Besides, where would they go? I think making the Hippus human-played would be unfair on certain players who have earnt their trust, and I think giving a player the Malakim, Orcs, or Pinean Elves would not be worth the hassle.

Besides, more players would just mean more enemies for me .

That said, maybe we could have one player controlling a cult or agency or something along those lines? The thing is, more players means more work for Jopa, which means slower updating :p.

I completely agree .. (:

(( btw: There's small chance that I will not have access to internet for next 2 weeks. If I'll not respond, feel free to NPC me. ))

We had thought that a new era of mutual negotiation and compromise were upon us, but we may have been mistaken.

Previously you worked hard to assure us that those in the pits were deserving and justly punished. This argument had some merit. It certainly wouldn't do for foreign agents to break into our dungeons and free criminals of all stripes.

Now, you claim that Kuriotates villagers are prisoners of war. Soldiers make prisoners of war. Villagers are not soldiers. I am sure you will agree.

Please allow some room for negotiation. Neither one of our governments wants to continue the embargo continously. Let us find a mutually suitable middle-ground, return our nations to the old days of mutual trade and friendly neighborlines and put these days behind us.

Do we need to return to the old ways of angry rhetoric shouted across the neighbors fence with little ear for logic or actual diplomacy?

Roderick of the amurite senate.

Great update Jopa! I'd like to throw my voice in thanking you for this very fun NES. Its my first NES, so I don't have anything to compare it too, but its been great.

Minor correction, I changed the name of my country to Sidhe. It sounds better than Alvarlian. Too many syllables.

So the name is Sidhe .
Sorry for confusion.

End of Turn 15
Start of Turn 16

Smuggling on the rise

Many local governors report disturbing news: It seems that smugglers received a great funding from somewhere and manage to smuggle the goods without taxes. Some forbidden wares are also reported to find their ways to the markets, like dark artifacts, some strong types of liquor and some narcotic herbs. The issue is pressing, and many lose gold while it obviously pours in someone else pockets.

Erebus: -1 stability
All: -10 gold per resource owned

TO: JOPA
will this continue every turn or is this a one-turn only event? Can it be stopped if it continues turn to turn?

To: fellow nations of erebus:

How do we plan to respond to this? Liquor and narcotic herbs are not illegal in Amurite lands but dark artifacts and trade without paying taxes are. Also, we lost a lot of money and we intend to prevent this from happening again. If Jopa says this will keep occuring, i propose that we form a coalition to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
If its a one-time thing... we may let it slide.

@ immac. Not every single turn, but after a while it will increase and it will decrease income by increasing 'Upkeep' budget. That means that smuggling reduces income while actually increasing commerce usage.

How can we fight it? Spend money on domestic spies?

Grigori.
Your leader has led you in a financial crisis a long time ago, and is now leading you into a losing war which your coffers can't sustain. He hasalready attacked us, your neighbours who traded with you for years, in the past. Once again, using treachery, he has decided to attack us. It looks like you forfeited the worship of gods in exchange for the worship of a fallen angel who doesn't mind lying to his friends.
This is unfortunate, and we are sorry to tell you that this hostile behaviour makes it impossible for us to keep trading with your nation. Therefore, all trade routes to the Grigori are cancelled. All Grigori traders in our lands will be imprisonned and their goods confiscated until their leader atones for his misdeeds.

Spoiler :
All Khazad trade routes to and from Grigori are cancelled.

I'll have to fix the Sidha/Alvaria in the update, and also there are few more changes:

Grigori lose 20 gold to restore troops (I forgot em, duh!)

All nations of erebus:
PM me if you would like to work with me to stop the smugglers.

Grigori lose 20 gold to restore troops (I forgot em, duh!)

I'll pay nothing - all maintenance cost and restoring costs pays Kuriotate nation.

It's way how to disappear. I no longer have much time to play Grigori and I probably even won't have in near future. (: And I want to try if I can survive deity PvP game ... (:
