GR29 - AWM vs 30 civs, Pangea

Lurkers Comment:

Nice job guys. I never found the aggression setting to be of much value.

From about 400 AD to 1000 AD our southern tundra was the only unsettled territory in the world, so it’s no surprise that we met so many enemies then, and we did the right thing in filling the tundra as quickly as possible.

Im not sure about that. The crucial places to me that time were west and east "ardennes" tree area that you could not clear.

Overall Im dissappointed. The armywall was exploit that changed the game 100 %.

Congrtulations on your win, it has been a great game to follow.

Great game and great ending :goodjob:

We did have some tight moments early in the game with all that junk land we started with. However, the difficulty level is too low to cause any issues later on.

Now, are people up for a CCM AW game. It does not feature any armies which makes warfare far more challenging. More tedious too, but that is the norm for Civ 3 anyway. I would suggest a AW game on emperor for a start, maybe on continents. Landing on another Island without army support is tough, but fun.

Wow - you guys are still doing Civ3 AW.

Of course, after reading a few games of the Civ5 *DISASTER*, this looks more interesting. ;)

LK, you were asking about RaR with lost of buildings etc. Try CCM which also features a larger tech tree, no building maintenance and a real new approach to C3C. Civ 5 is just too one dimensional I guess.

I'm ready to give it a try.

Great! I don't know how active Greebley considers himself to be in Civ III, but that leaves M60, Charis, and Vmxa--would any of you gentlemen be interested in the CCM AW project?

Rat, I gather CCM has been updated since we last played; could I ask you where to find the new version?

lurker's comment: I'm more than looking forward to this proposal. I can lurk with the best of them.

I love reading this team.

Great!

Going to generate a start soon with a new thread. Btw, some basics have to be acquired to play this mod. For example, the early units such as chariots etc are being auto-produced.
Will be fun to play I am sure.

Any preference for a Civ. Rome is too strong in my mind with their early units, but we do need a Civ with some capabilities early on or we're dead before the game starts.

There are some Civ that produce elephants without ivory and cheaper to top. They can be quite good. Any input?

For our first time out let's go easy on ourselves. This will be my first time to play CCM (I'm still reading through the Mod Thread) and I expect that the early invisible units will eat our lunch.

You can read up that SG game we had on demigod which was an easy victory.

A couple of points to consider.
1- that game was not AW
2- limited cities early as you cannot make settlers
3- no armies, means kill ratios lower

Add in the toughest AW on massive maps I played in and won were both Monarch. The low numbers of cities early means you will not even have the ability to make many units. You will have to field a much larger army, than if you had army units.

Smaller empires for a long time, coupled with the requirement to make units will probably mean not being in the lead with tech for a long time. I suspect these could combine to make these like the AWDG massive games.

Considering Vmxa's very pertinent warnings, and the fact that all of us except Rat will be new to CCM AW, I don't think there's any shame in selecting the obviously best civ. Shall we just play the Romans?

Rat, thanks for pointing me to the update.

ok, going to create a start tomorrow evening I think as Romans. There are a few things to consider for AW games for CCM.

Early units that really help are chariots (need the wheel for that) and enslavers (invisible). We have 2 settlers at the start, I usually build workers housing in the second city as that build counts as a barracks which is hard to come by in this game early on.

We have to decide whether we would like to go for Great Library and whether we want monarchy or theocracy (I personally prefer monarchy as it has no tile penalty). As Romans we do get to enjoy some pretty good early buildings that give a free barracks.

Very powerful early units are the invisible prophets that enslave 'culture bombs'. Anyway, more once I start the game.

So far, we got CommandoBob, M60A3TTS and NP interested, anyone else? vmxa, are you in?

Still messing with V, but if you are short handed I could play. Been a bit since I fired up C3C.

I'm interested in playing if CCM turns don't cycle too slowly. I just started playing a WW2 mod that took at least an hour to start the game (I went to bed because it was taking so long!).
