Between my and my ally Bavaria we own most of Germany but I can't work out how to become a HRE voter.

I have a lot of time to play lots of games at the same time, some of them never finish because i keep starting new saves with other countries
At least Germany is around 1690, where i could industrialize (innovative, free subjects, NI and pretty much all the decisions that i could use to make tech faster, so yeah, early industrialization)

I tend to industrialize with the same slider settings and stuff in my games as well. I'm thinking of playing a more-traditional Christian crusader Spain as a change of pace (obviously, uniting the peninsula myself, maybe re-establishing Jerusalem).

I'm still in the 1460s in my Musovy game and at 1700 in my Burgundy game, but I've been playing off and on for weeks.

As far as I know, you usually can't force the matter. It is possible via inheriting an existing elector, and thus taking the title, or if one elector converts to a heathen religion and ends up losing his seat. In that case, a new elector is randomly assigned, and it could be you if you are on good relations with the Emperor.

if i remember you need to have a elector as a neighbour and have good relations with both him and the emperor.

That would probably explain why the southern-most elector I have seen is Tirol since DW came out. At least an expansion (or more) ago, you just had to be in the HRE, so you would see Corsica or Tuscany becoming electors after the religious wars re-organized the empire.

I became elector as the Papal State. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think that either Savoy or Switzerland was an elector. Or maybe bordering the Emperor himself does it, because I had a border with Austria.

I thought the papacy was explicitly forbidden from joining the HRE and becoming an elector. Which version of the game was this?

DW. I added Rome to the Empire (Thus validating the "Holy" and "Roman" parts of the HRE) first thing, so that I could eat up the northern Italian minor without fear of Imperial intervention. Eventually, I was allied and on good terms with Austria, and I got chosen to be Elector when somebody got fired or annexed.

Of course, I used this vote to vote for whoever stood tue best chance against Austria, even if they had a deep hate of me. About fifty years later, I got the bad relations event and lost my electorship.

1490 and the largest enemy is Ruma, which is slowly wrapping up the Mediterranean coast.

As England in MEIOU I started the game at war with France, being dragged in by my vassal Montfort. The war started terribly, my armies were scattered and were defeated in short order, it only until King Edward III Plantagenet himself brought an army of 30,000 from England to our southern territories and crushed Jean there, England fought alone with her vassals and allies, Montfort and Navarra in which the war was oddly lost in the north but won in the south and for all intent and purposes was a draw, but for some reason, even when I wanted to throw in the towel my vassal (who is leader in this war against Alancon, and even France herself is not able to sue for peace either) simply refused, kept fighting on despite being nearly overrun. It was the timely arrival of a 15,000 troop army that finally saved Montfort and tipped the balance of power to my side, but the war was still far from decided.

We fought for another year... making it 19 years the kingdoms and families of Plantagenet and Valois were at odds, before the Valois and French forces were delivered a final crushing blow that ended up being devastating for France. Aragon joined and brought Portugal and her Italian allies into the war. The remaining war was simply mop up operations as my armies chased small bands of French warriors around the country. For all intents and purposes the war was over... but still my vassal Montfort still refused to go to the negotiating table and get what they wanted and no doubt not be refused, but no, they continued the war, so I moved most of my forces north to invade Scotland... it was then I discovered Portugal just began invading it as well, so I quickly got my armies to the remaining territories and besieged them first.

When half of Scotland fell I got a message I never got before in any EU3 game or its mods.... 'the Valois (France's ruling family) recognized the Plantagenets (England's ruling family) as the victorious family and pledged Dauphine (which I assume is their province of birth) as English vassals which basically made what was left of France my vassal.

Now I get confused, apparently I am now fighting my vassals as there were no peace signed despite the message saying White Peace has been agreed upon between France and England. Does this also mean I should declare war on Aragon to protect my new vassals? I have the armies to defeat both Aragon and her pesky Italian allies. My manpower though is another matter completely, I nearly ran out halfway into the French war which caused me to pray that Montfort would sue for peace, but then my manpower returned and my armies were resupplied. I also believe it will be bit more difficult against Aragon but I plan to fight defensively, which will conserve my manpower.

Another thing I am also proud of is this is my first English game in which I never needed to mint to support my large army. Though my navy is an embarrassment, only 1 galley and 17 transports. I am already beginning construction of a large navy.

Wait. Oh...

Although, pioneering fortifications and siege tactics would seem to call for a name for his style of warfare... :p

My MEIOU Italy game...
Bohemia is 12 authority points away from forming the HRE..
They are allied with France and Poland. (AND ALL THE GOD FORSAKEN HRE FOR THAT MATTER)
After I formed Italy, I attacked northern Italy a few times to conquer it. I used to own all savoy, but I was forced to release some of it after my failed war against Milan. (The whole HRE joined against me) After the war, I left the HRE. Now, I'm trying to form a coalition to destroy the HRE after it forms, since it will be vulnerable as it only has cores on the original Bohemian land. My coalition is only composed of myself and the GB for now..
Hungary used to own all the Balkans, but the small ottomans conquered all the Balkans, leaving Hungary devastated and easy prey for Poland.
Sucks that the ottos died 10 years later after Castille, Portugal and Venice decided to gang up on them.

That would explain it. I guess they only explicitly forbid the pope from joining the HRE, but if he's already in then he gets all the rights and privileges. :)

Wow... I am really confused. From the war in my last post not one nation can sue for peace. I will list the combatants and their vassals and allies:

Senior leader: England (me)
Vassals:
Montfort (War leader)
Albret

Allies: Navarra (left early)

Senior Leader: France/Dauphine
Vassals:
Blois
Anjou
Alencon (War Leader)
Orleans
Armagnac
Foix
Bourbannis
Nevers

No allies

Now the war started with Montfort claiming the throne of Alencon thus bringing in England and France and their respective vassals and allies into the war.

During the course of the war Navarra left but France was soundly beaten and reformed as Dauphine an English vassal. (the green nation in the map in my last post)

I fully expected with all French provinces and vassals provinces conquered that Montfort would sue for peace. Strangely I could not despite being the senior partner in the war. Neither could France/Dauphine. So I waited, for 20 years, still no peace, so I gave up and decided to restart the game as Montfort only to discover they cannot sign peace because their senior partner, England, is still in the war. Imagine my disbelief when I knew I could not sue for peace because as the game says, as England, "You cannot sue for peace when there are 2 junior partners in the war." As Montfort, "You cannot sue for peace when your senior partner is still in the war."

Now I am sitting there incredulous, so I reloaded the save this time as Dauphine, still unable to sue for peace, getting the same excuse as England. So I reloaded as Alencon, the French vassals that was attacked by Montfort, lo and behold they get the same message Montfort got when I try to get peace.

Am I stuck in perpetual warfare? I really want to continue this game so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also on a side note, Aragon is also in the war but I assume they are able to sue for peace since they are not my allies and are fighting a separate war than us and just got peace from Scotland where I can't.
