Long Live the Revolution!

It's November 7, the anniversary on the Gregorian calendar of the bold ending of capitalist rule in Russia, and the beginning of the inexorable tide against that accursed system.

However, since there's no much to talk about with regards to that

Of course there is not much to talk about, since it failed.

The rise of Socialism in America might be hard because the left seems to be more unified than the right. My Conservative friends criticize Bush and Romney often, but my liberal friends are all united in their love for Obama.

Obama the conservative....

There is no move towards socialism in the Democratic party. Literately not one iota.

In practice I agree, but I think they try to borrow the moral veneer of socialism as subtly as they can.

Real socialists will force them to pick a side, which I heartily endorse.

There has been even less coverage of these races than the Atlanta and Boston races. Thanks for the heads-up, Cheezy.

That may be true, but it's quickly getting less so.

Yeah, this. Attitudes are changing.

Of course there is not much to talk about, since it failed.

Yeah, just like that Jesus fellow. He got caught and nailed to a post. Nothing worth talking about there.

Considering 'Socialist' is a curse-word in the USA, similar to popular usage of 'Fascist' and the very word 'neoliberal', any socialists that will ever gain power in the USA in a foreseeable time will do so while fervently denying they are.
That McCarthyesque rationalization makes far more sense than merely acknowledging that socialists simply cannot be elected in the US with rare exception for the very reason you mentioned.

uh... I did not imply socialists had a very big chance to gain power in the USA to begin with...

You insinuated that they still did so covertly, just like Eugene McCarthy and the other reactionary witch hunters of the 50s claimed.

Socialists claiming they're not socialists is like McCarthy calling everyone he didn't like a communist and imprisoning them?

No, if anyone is insinuating anything it is that you are insinuating that I'm like McCarthy.

What I meant was that figures like Dennis Kucinich and Cynthia McKinney are definitely people who can be described as Democratic Socialists, but avoid the label due to its connotation in American politics. Conversely, libertarian-leaning politicians in Europe may style themselves as Socialists, usually in terms of party membership.

New York City Mayor-Elect Bill DeBlasio spent his younger days support of the Sandinistas and his.HoneyMoon in Cuba!

But that don't make him any different than the last 3 mayors!

While you're right, this matters little. The fact that people believed and still do believe was and is sufficient enough.

Just like socialism!

That is almost as nonsensical as claiming that Obama is a socialist.

Even Ralph Nader isn't a socialist. These people don't describe themselves as being "socialists" because they obviously aren't, not because they are trying to hide. Now you aren't even insinuating it.

You don't seem to know what the word even means. Cheezy and Reindeer Thistle are socialists. You can't discern the difference between their views and someone who is just slightly leftist like Dennis Kucinich?

And I'm not claiming that you are like McCarthy in any way other than you clearly continue to engage in the very activity he did.
