It is no secret that reality TV and media corrupts our young generation, resulting in a shallow materialistic worldview. This well-argued piece identifies the problem and offers a solution.

The group you fall into begins early, just as most teenagers are consumed into a corrupt generation.
...
Just by switching on the TV, millions of teenagers have the opportunity to access television shows such as “Jersey Shore”, “True Life”, “16 and Pregnant” , “My Super Sweet 16″ etc. Teenagers even as young as the age of 10 have become intoxicated by the dirt of several of these reality shows!
...
MTV operates by enforcing the shallow lifestyle of materialism, immaturity, and judgmental material. People are pulled away from what really matters and become consumers with the slogan, “I want it all and I want it now!”
...
I believe that as this domino effect continues to take place, people of this country would not have the patience to work anymore.
...
This is extremely possible as many foreigners offer more work and less pay, concluding to a second Great Depression- where many American people could land on the streets!
...
In conclusion, if the Alpha and Beta (higher educated people) are not fully interfering by forcing changes towards the laws and restrictions, then this scenario could possibly come to life! These television networks that play a small role in the economy might be a result in our entire country running into an open knife!

So, what are your options on this incredibly well-researched and argued piece? Do you agree that television shows are the danger the government must face?

Discuss.

'The children now love luxury; they show disrespect for elders and
love chatter in place of exercise. Children are tyrants, not servants
of the households. They no longer rise when their elders enter the
room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up
dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize over their
teachers.'

Every previous generation said:
It is no secret that [insert recent social or technological changes] corrupts our young generation, resulting in a shallow materialistic worldview.

Meh. Every generation looks down upon the next generation. Just wait 30 years until these "shallow and materialistic" people are the older generation and say the same thing about the youth.

The economy could collapse, because young people now think they can party their lives away and not work orreceivean education. Later in life they will realize that this is not the case…
I think my dad told me this...in 1981. Deja vu' moment, sorry.

Everything that comes out of this, ah, widely respected Internet-folk-heroine author's mouth - and keyboard - is pure gold.

The fact remains there will always be four groups of people in this world. In ancient times, the Greeks and Romans measured their country by a person’s level of understanding (or mental capacity) in the following groups: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta!

The Alpha is the first. They are the leaders running the country, usually the doctors, scientists, political leaders, attorneys, etc.

The next group of people is the Beta. They are second in the group and have some knowledge in different fields. They usually work for the Alpha ( like clerks, messengers, secretaries, teachers, etc.)

The third group is the majority, the Gamma. This large group of people is a group of consumers (usually materialistic) mostly with a shallow living!

Finally, a downgrade from the Gamma are the Deltas. These are the people who don’t care about their lives or the lives of others (mostly criminals and drug consumers)

Looks like somone has read Brave New World and is now trying to learn all the wrong lessond about the real world (minus the bit about fetal alcohol syndrome).

Typical cycle continues. Older generation blames younger generation.

And now for something completely different...

Well we've been getting more and more materialistic since the 1950s following WWII. Honestly, its the fault of the "Greatest Generation" for the most part (not that they weren't great), and their children, that the current generation (their grandchildren and great-grandchildren) are being so messed up. So it is annoying to see them talking about how bad our generation is; it's the parent's fault. It'll take something intense to shock us out of this complacent and corrupted state; war, deep depression, zombie pandemic, who knows.

I blame AIDS. If it weren't for AIDS we'd still have all the sex and drugs we want and everyone would be happy. These days kids are too afraid to get their dipsticks wet and it's leading to all sorts of stupid acts. Like that Jackass movie. I wish we could turn back the clock to Free Love and key swap parties, but we can't because of AIDS. Stupid AIDS.

My thoughts exactly. :goodjob:

More problems are caused by the elitists (like the one writing this article) than those who they talk against.

My opinion is that every older generation says this about the generation that follows them. Spoiled, corrupted, insolent blah blah blah its an old story and Im sure my generation will say the same about those "spoiled snot nosed brats" who follow us.
