Ok, though I have been hanging around this forum for a while, this is the first time i post, :)

Anyway I am working on a huge mod/scenario on a world map (El Menceys excellent map) that will cover the time-period of 1870-2010, about 20 or so civs, I have had this idea for years, but now I feel that there are (or soon will be) enough great units from the modding community to actually make it.
That is why I am starting this thread, for input and suggestion and comments etc, if anyone is interested in the idea :p

4 Tech eras : Early Industrial 1870-1918, Late industrial 1918-1950, Early Modern 1950-1980, Late Modern 1980-2010.

I like the idea.
One remark: Modern Psychology shouldn't come this early. Name it "Freudian Theories" in Early Industrial. Modern Psychology should come Early Modern or in Late Mordern, to show the progress in this field since Freud.

These are the Techs Im considering at the moment, I might have left out
or forgot some, and there are a lot of techs, maybe I could skip a few of them, also there are plenty techs that are more or less concepts from
political science and economics, but that is to reflect social changes in
the modern age, and the fact that I am a student of those subjects :D

Supa: you might be right on that one, a problem is using the word modern,
take for example cosmology, cosmology have existed since the ancient greeks
at least but contemporary cosmology differs greatly from the ancient one, so one has to name it modern to reflect that.

Yes but Psychology doesn't really exist as a scientific field before 1875. The human mind was treated in Philosophy until then. You could use "Psychology" instead of "Modern Psychology" without problem.

Ah I see what you mean, yes you are probably right, anyways these are
the civs Im considering:

Great Britain
France
Germany/Austria
United States
Japan
China
Russia
Italy
Spain
Australia
Canada
Argentina
Brazil
Mexico
India
Turkey
Eastern Europe
Benelux
Underdeveloped/Third World, no good name for this one
East Asian Nations
Arab/Islamic states
Neutral Independent States
South American Nations

This is the Unit tree:

I will try to have as much unique units as possible, but unit creation is beyond me so I have to rely on our excellent 3d creating people that have
produced these throughout the years (especially Wyrmshadow, Bebro, Ripptide, Vingrjoe, Bjorn, Utahjazz, Kinboat, Aaglo, W.i.n.t.e.r...anyone forgotten?)
But many units will be shared since that is a fact from history, for example lots of nations are operating the Mig-21 and lots of nations have the F-16, and the F-5.

The unit tree is a bit messy, since I couldn't upload excel documents, I am not sure about the unit stats I have assigned, those are preliminary only, if someone with experience in making scenarios could provide some input I would be most grateful.

Also I posted this idea at EVO, might aswell post it here, it's an idea I had:

I am thinking about ways to bring back the irrigation to farmlands thing from Civ 2, the idea is to have "irrigated grassland/plains" as Landmark terrain, and when a certain tech is discovered (mechanized agriculture), the harvester unit Wyrmshadow made will be available and with this one can make the "Farmland" tile improvment (the only worker job for the harvester), the mod/scenario will start in 1870 and continue on up until 2010 (on El Menceys world map), so quite a few terrain tiles will be irrigated grassland/plains but not too many.

Oh and the Landmark Plains and grasslands will be said terrain with the original irrigation graphics on them, and the Farmlands tile improvments will be different Irrigation graphics (perhaps the ones from Snoopys terrain mod)

Don't know if this will be doable

Suggestion for units:
Try doing flavor units or UUs for each era. I personally do not like to see Basic Tank, Advanced Tank, Cold War-era tank, etc.
Example:Americans Cold War-era tank could be M-1 Sherman.
Israeli Modern Tank (Are they a civ, I forget) could be Merkava.

Hi AlCosta, yes the plan is to have as many UU's as possible, the unit tree file
was just to show the basic layout of how I would design it, for example you mentioned tanks, the American tank tree looks as follows (for now) :

Basic Tank = Ford 1918 Light Tank
Pre War Tank = M2A4
Early War Tank = M3 Grant
Late War Tank = M4 Sherman
Post War Tank = M26 Pershing
Cold War Tank = M48 Patton
Post Cold War Tank = M60
Modern Tank = M1A1
Advanced Tank = M1A2

I couldn't upload an Excel file so the .txt doesn't show the UUs just the types of units
