New NESes, ideas, development, etc

There is a IOT map thread.

Here is the map.

And a short history:
Joe Walker was shambling home when he was mugged and then shot in the head. Joe was a Minnesota representative to the House of Representatives.

The 2012 U.S. presidential election was the closest in history. With the electoral votes tied at 269 to 269, the vote went to the House. Joe Walker's recent death left the representatives at an even number, and the vote again tied. Due to the fact that there was no way to decide the prsident after this, Obama was chosen because he was the incumbent. This stirred up the entire South and Midwest, and secessionist movements sprung up in over 30 states. The first state to secede was Utah, on November 22nd, 2012. Soon much of the South followed, and by the 30th of November, over 35 states had left the Union. The government could not control the crisis, and soon Obama fled to the Democratic New England. By this time, New England declared itself independant, and all hell broke loose. In the frenzy that followed, many states banded together. The Dakotas put aside their differences over the capital and merged. California split into hundreds of pieces that later united. Deseret formed as a Mormon thoecracy. The south became the CSA. It goes on and on and on. Finally, we come to January 1st, 2014. The war is over, Texas has conquered partsof Mexico, Canada broke apart, Cuba was annexed by Florida, and the U.S. is a very volatile place.

So, anyone interested in helping?

How about incarnations only as your offspring? If you succeeded in becoming a king, you will play the next king etc...

Playing as your descendants is cool, but wouldn't it also be fun to have your children played by another person? That way, you can model how chiefs or kings or other big men don't have the same personality generation after generation...

That reminds me of my former planning of a "King NES". There would only be several players as Kings, each of whom can pick several players as "Princes" to both help them govern as well as take over when their King dies. The more princes, the better control you have... but the NESer factor shows that the more princes the higher chance of a rebellion you will have!

If we get 20 players, 4 PC kingdoms with 3 Princes each, with princes retaining some power up to 5 years/(2 turns?) after the new King takes power, we can have 4 in reserve writing stories for disinherited princes or heros and such.

Total conquest would be empathetically not really possible. Siege warfare dominates. Maybe have a border of a different culture to allow possible expansion at the expense of internal stability.

My former idea was a Spain Reconquestia NES, with Portugal, Leon, Castile and Aragon initially playable, and several Islamic states available after a certain amount of players.

Why not have the 4 Kings rule Aragon, Castile, Portugal and Leon.

Yeah, but the game would be an NES...

And thus artificial distinctions continue to be illogical. How would the map coming from the IOT map thread make it intrinsically an IOT unless specified otherwise? How would you make the rules so it would be more NES-esque than IOT-esque? Except, of course, putting it in the NES forum.

I bet that if I copypasta one of the more generic IOT rulesets, delete references to IOTs or IOT culture and replaced it with NESing terms, and post it as a NES. NOONE except IOT-NESer transfer players would get the referece. Ergo if I did the same with a generic NES, and plopped the IOT code of conduct and other such things, and posted it in the IOT forum.

No. I am using rules from a NES by arya126 at the Paradox Forums.

Why are you being so aggressive?

The next ruleset you post will be scrutinized :p

Because of the constant discussions of whether or not IOT and NES should be combined. IMHO I don't really care, as long as the players are respectful and follow the rules of whatever game they play. If you play my NES, as long as you respect what I set there I'm fine. If some one else has a different expectation for his own game, I don't really care if it is labled an IOT or a NES as long as that mod's expectations are met, more power to him.

EDIT: AT this note, I present my new signature.

Deseret formed as a Mormon thoecracy.
"Shattered America" games are passe, but here's an easy one: why does Deseret hardly comprise any of Utah?

I know Canada is screwed up. I wasn't planning on icluding them, but in the end I did. I am going to get rid of them, actually. Later, though. I am too lazy right now.

One could ask the same question about Texas. The map itself is pretty wonky, and I think a lot of its nations are in need of a re-name.

Because of balancing reasons. I can change if you want me to.
It's not really my business. However, what's the point of having a backstory if it's not reflected in the map and setting because balance? Just make something up if the answer is "because."

That's not the whole backstory. There are wars beween the Rockies and Deseret, wars between Texas and Deseret (while Texas is fighting Mexico, causing them to lose), wars between Texas and Mexico, wars between Cascadia and Canada... it will all be explained.

Just so you know, guys, KhaNES 2: SPQR is still in the works and will likely be going up soon. Just working on some rulesets and things.

This is the final map, I'm not planning on changing it much. Ignore the provincial borders within the Roman Empire, they are going to be subject to changes depending on how many players I have to start.
