Nigaz

I didn't see anyone make the point that while in English the n-word rimes with bigger, and so the company name looks bad to us in print, the countries in Africa, Nigeria and Niger, are typically pronounced, AFAIK, with approximately a hard I sound. So, NIgeria. Or NIgaz. Or even Nygaz, for phonetic. So I don't think the unfortunate connotation holds up verbally as it does in print.
The habit of pronouncing "I" as it is pronounced in Niger and Nigeria is a uniquely English phenomenon. Nigaz is more likely to be pronounced in Russian as we would pronounce "neegaz" but one couldn't be sure until seeing it in the Cyrillic alphabet.

But how is it spelled in the ways Africans spell it? Nigeria would be the Americanized version of the nations name.

Nijeriya
Naigeria
Niiseriya
Naìjírìà

Also, it's the Anglicized version of the name. ;)

It's pronounced /naɪˈgæz/, right?

I pronounce it /ˈnaɪ gəz/ (or /ˈni gəz/ :mischief: )

Well, sounds better with the stress on the first syllable.

So I was right. You can get correct subject hits off Google that you couldn't on Wiki. In fact Google search is usually better at finding Wiki articles than Wiki search is.

...you missed something very important in that picture.

It's definitely pronounced in Russian "neegaz", but I believe, with stress on second syllable.

Funny how other nations are looking to not only be energy independent, but turn turn a profit. Too bad the USA is held hostage by the green movement & we can't even drill new sites domestically.

Why drill domestically? Let's the individuals in America save instead of spend and in turn invest that abroad?
