What makes pizza a pizza?

YIL that there is someone in the world who likes cranberries as a pizza topping.

I might try that some day if I ever have all the ingredients and kitchen stuff to make pizza again.

Here's my tip. It's for the construction of the pizza.

In spreading the sauce and cheese, keep a little circle in the center uncovered. Then when you slice it up, the slices will separate better.
Or just use a sharpened knife to cut the pizza.
Isn't there a "pizza" that consists of a meat base with more meat as topping?
Well, here meat is sometimes served ‘a la pizza’. Either by itself (‘matambre’) or breaded and fried beforehand (‘milanesa’).
Anchovies are not good.
Please do allow me to register my wholehearted disagreement with this preference of yours.
If people get that upset about pineapple, what about black pudding on pizza?

Black pudding is properly eaten on bread, as you should know.
Maybe i try this soon..looks really interesting.

This does seem interesting indeed.

Not liking anchovies isn't a preference. It's a non-preference.

My grandmother was stumped for what kind of sandwich to send with me to school one day (we weren't allowed to leave the school grounds without a note from home and the school had no cafeteria, so we had to bring a lunch from home).

For some bizarre reason she chose anchovies. That ranks with the meatloaf and pickle relish one as the Worst Sandwich Ever.

That looks delicious yet Unitedstatesian.

It looks festive. But I'd use green peppers instead of onions, both for aesthetics and taste.

Actually, what I'd really do with a pizza like that is an experiment to see if fresh blueberries would work as a topping. They'd need to be uncooked, of course, and added after baking. And if blueberries were used, the onions would have to be eliminated because those flavors just wouldn't mix.

The anchovies are probably more contentious. I'm good with them personally, though not my normal topping choice.

I had them in Florida. I enjoyed them well enough, but they're strong and I can see why a lot of people don't appreciate them. They have to be properly paired with other seasonings , I think.....

Norwich restaurant charges £100 for a pineapple pizza

A pizzeria is asking its customers to put their dough where their mouth is if they want to eat a Hawaiian – charging £100 for a ham and pineapple-topped pizza.

The owners and staff of Lupa pizza in Norwich are so revolted by the Hawaiian that they have reluctantly added the topping to their delivery menu but only with the eye-watering price tag.

The menu description reads: “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!”

“I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza,” said the restaurant’s co-owner Francis Woolf. The head chef, Quin Jianoran, agreed, adding: “I love a pina colada, but pineapple on pizza? Never. I’d rather put a bloody strawberry on one than that tropical menace.”

That story references a controversy from 2017:

Iceland's leader backs down on controversial issue: Pineapple on pizza

President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was forced to clarify his views late Tuesday on, uh, well, pineapple as a pizza topping.

"I like pineapples, just not on pizza. I do not have the power to make laws that forbid people to put pineapples on pizza," Jóhannesson wrote on Facebook.

The high-stakes diplomatic climb-down came after Jóhannesson responded to a question from a student last week who had asked him what he thought of the love-it-or-hate-it pizza topping. Jóhannesson held nothing back. He said he found the pairing completely disgusting and would have it banned nationwide if he could.

I think a lot of people who hate this kind of pizza have just never had it prepared correctly. There has to be the right amount of moisture in the pineapple. Too much and the crust is soggy and the pineapple taste is overwhelming. Too little and it's dry and tasteless.

I used to make ham and pineapple pizzas at home, for my grandmother. I realized that I had to really make sure the pineapple was drained well, and stuck the pieces between layers of paper towel for a few minutes to make sure they weren't going to be too moist before adding them to the pizza prior to baking it.

That goes for all ingredients :)
Let's remember that classic pizza margarita is just base + tomato + cheese + basil.

Less can be more and yup, i dry several ingredients between paper towels.
Mozzarella, pepperoni, anchovies..swimming pizzas can become a right mess.

"Pizza margarita"?????

I know that a margarita is a kind of alcoholic beverage. Are you saying there's a drink with cheese and basil in it? Sounds utterly disgusting.

No. A "basic" pizza with only tomato + cheese + basil and no further topping is called a margarita.

Though actually it seems there's a drink with cheese and basil in it:

Lemon Basil Cheesicle Cocktail

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon of mascarpone cheese
  • 3 to 5 big basil leaves (bruised and torn in half)
  • 1 ounce limoncello
  • ½ ounce Grand Marnier or Cointreau
  • 2 ounces vodka

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add mascarpone, basil, limoncello, Grand Marnier, and vodka to the shaker. Close it and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a sprig of basil and serve immediately.

I could go on, you know how people are with booze:

This Basil Martini with Gin is a delicious variation on the classic Martini Gin Cocktail. It is not for nothing that it is one of the most famous drinks with its dry, elegant spicy taste. And this time not served with the famous olives, but with savory blue cheese tomatoes. This drink is popular with everyone and very easy to make!

I think I am with you on those cocktails. Since my favourite cocktail came up, I have to give my recipe for a margarita: 1 unit triple sec (orange liquor like Grand Marnier or Cointreau), 2 units freshly squeezed lime juice, 3 units tequila and a good pinch of salt. Shake with ice if you want, then serve as is. The salt is already in it, no need for messing up the rim.

My initial reaction was that that sounds awful, but thinking more, I can kinda see it. Mascarpone, lemon and orange - that's basically a fruity cheesecake. Vodka just makes it more alcoholic. The basil is a bit odd, but I've seen herbs on desserts before, and it could give a interesting contrast in flavour. Definitely expecting it to be one of those cocktails that is more dessert than drink, but there might be something there.

The martini was good until they but blue cheese in it. That stuff is foul.
