If more conservatives and capitalists can come out of their closets it'd be nice...

That's unlikely. The questions are biased towards the third quadrant. For example, this question:

Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation.

If you "strongly disagree", you are probably a tea party anarchist. But if you "strongly agree", it doesn't mean you are for nationalising all means of production.

This is similar:

What's good for the most successful corporations is always, ultimately, good for all of us.

If it was worded "often" instead of "always, ultimately", presumably the cloud would have drifted right a bit. Of course, these questions may have meant to be unambiguous, but I can't find many questions that will distinguish a well-regulated but still free economy from a Stalinist one.

Or take social liberties. Being able to own a gun, say, is also a kind of liberty - not necessarily the good kind. If the poll asks "gun ownership is a fundamental rights of a free people that should not be questioned", I imagine not many people here would vote "strongly agree".

About 2 years ago, I'd be Economic Right: +2.0, Lib/Auth: 0.
I don't like this question:

Quote:
Military action that defies international law is sometimes justified.
Because surely agreeing that defying laws can be justified is a libertarian stance, not an authoritarian one.
Honestly, I agree it's a bad question, but only because it is so vague that anyone could have that stance. Hitler violated international law. W. possibly did.
The will to intervene militarily is just saying that your morals/ends justify your means and trump international politics; it gives no indications about your politics other than that you might be a pacifist. Were libertarians draft dodgers in WW2? Many libertarians have been guerrillas, including our own founding fathers.

I've gone further left and up.

Economic Left/Right: -5.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.97

Well I'm more libertarian, and more red.

Economic Left/Right: -8.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.00

Economic Left/Right: -0.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.21

Must have changed alot, to be frank.

Although my reaction to many of the questions was either 'I can't really answer that properly with the information that it gives me' or 'that's a bloody stupid question'

I've moved a few Decimal points left and a couple points down. Also, I got a perfect 5!

Economic Left/Right: 5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.28

I moved to the right and up a bit.
Economic Left/Right: -0.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.62

Due for an update, I suppose.

December 2011
Economic Left/Right: 8.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.46
July 2011
Economic Left/Right: 8.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

December 2010
Economic Left/Right: 8.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

June 2010
Economic Left/Right: 9.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.31

February 2009
Economic Left/Right: 9.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.59

May 2007
Economic Left/Right: 10.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.77

Economic Left/Right: -6.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.18

Strange, the political compass test has repeatedly put me near centre on economic issues, only slightly to the left. And I was always strongly libertarian, but never this much so. It appears I've grown much more extremist.

Regardless, I identify much more with libertarianism than leftism.

My most recent one leftified me as well.

December 2011
Economic Left/Right: -7.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.41

EDIT: And lib'ified me as well, apparently, looking at my last test results

May 2011
Economic Left/Right: -4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.95

It's funny that the test does not reflect a change in my score from Friedmanite "minarchism" to anarcho-capitalism.

My true score is 10, -10. :D
