My fear that current SVN is unplayable in later eras (for me) became true. I have proceeded with my recently posted savegame for another 3 turns with viewports turned on without issue. After saving (the savegame attached here) I finished the turn und got a MAF the next turn. Now I can´t even load the attached savegame.

I am sorry to repeat myself, but there is something badly going wrong with this game in future eras. I never had MAFs in the past! This is a standard size map and there are really not a lot of units there.

The newer Dromon model looks good but please reduce it's size by about 15-20% :)

Out of cusiousity I tried to load snofru1s savegame and it crashed on loading (either in the Initializing phase or directly after) with Rev 5061.

Minidump attached.

I'll look into this later today. The minidump is in the DLL so hopefully something should be diagnosable.

Edit - found & fixed in latest SVN

Units like Decareme and Trireme start with Coastal Guard/Assault but these two promotions require Navigation I. So the next time they are checked for promotions they loose their starting promotions.
Is this intended?

@TB

I was just thinking about this promotion stuff, and it seems like the ONLY culprit is the "Free Promotions" that are messing things up(at least thats what i am seeing), is there anyways just to write a code in the promoline that "excludes" and free promo's?? I'm just Sayin

Concerning viewports (I have the standard settings, 40,40,2,5):

For one thing I have issues with airlifting. It seems that airlifting doesn´t work at all if you have changed the viewport at first. The effect shows itself by simply nothing happening at all after you have selected the target city. Here is a recipe with the attached savegame:

Go into the military advisor and click the map on the bottom right to move the viewport. Now select the modern infantry in Hamburg (slightly north) and try to airlift it to Wiesbaden (far to the northeast). Nothing happens. In fact now I can´t find any unit anywhere that can be airlifted (If you try to airlift before you move the viewport it does work alright).

2nd thing is the focus of the city view. Finish the turn by pressing enter. After a few clicks the 1st city screen that opens because of an empty build queue is Dresden. Instead of the city map you see a lot of black tiles and some ice from the south of the map. But in fact Dresden is to the north, not south. The viewport definitely did not switch to the city. The next city that shows up is Munster and this one is focused correctly (it probably was in the last viewport and Dresden was not). 3rd city is Port Royal and this again is not focused.

As stated in two other threads, I believe I've managed to fix the problem but I have no way to prove it. A save showing the issue would be helpful because the test save I'm using from my wife doesn't show hunters having trouble keeping their hunting sight with or without my code tweaks.

And if you were reading my diagnosis and analysis discussion responses to these bugs, you'll note I came to the same conclusion.

My reading of the code when attempting to find issues and fixed them suggested a few problem spots. One of which... did this happen a lot when you BUILT, say a Hunter (then losing Hunting Sight) or was it all on upgrades? What change would trigger this loss? If it was happening as soon as you built it, I believe I've fixed the problem. (And it could include other reasons too but mostly 'on completion of build' you'd see it right away right?)

My hunter and above hunter units are loosing their hunting sight promotion as I upgrade them the first time they get enough exp after creation. They don't looses it when they are created and I am giving them their initial promotions from great generals etc.

Dont know for sure if this is bug??

Military - Civilians that when a city if "razed" i got all these at once?? City size as 30ish. Seems like alot at once??

Current code gives you about 6 per 10 population. That bit is straight from the slaves mod. It probably should give a maximum of 1 per 2 population so they work in the same way immigrants.

I do like the added production boost.

Airlift wasn't working fro me WITHOUT viewports in this game, so I suspect a more general problem. Anyway, I'm looking into it...

Edit - no update on the airlift yet, but the city viewport switching is behaving ok for me (attached is what I see when the popup for Dresden appears). Especially if you are getting some black tiles I suspect you are seeing side effects of the memory issue which I've already fixed (see SVN discussion thread). Try with the latest SVN (in fact it shouldn't require you to use viewports at all) and let me know how it goes. I'm still looking at the airlift issue...

Just out of curiosity, what was going on there? Was it related to the save changes you made in Feburary?

So I have a working version before SVN v5027. I plugged in the core civic file from that into the current SVN to see if it fixed the error. But it still had them missing. Which means the problem is not the core civic file.

I am wondering if it is a problem with the FPK. Or something else. I wish I could track down what file is causing this. :wallbash:

It is working fine for me as well, so I don't think it is an SVN problem. You might want to try uninstalling and re-installing Civ and see if that helps.

Koshling, thanks a lot for fixing the savegame issue, file size was reduced from 6214 KB to 2400 KB! Seems to run fine so far, no more MAFs.

I am still not seeing my city tiles of Dresden when viewports are activated. The reason is, we probably have different user settings, for me the city window opens automatically when the build queue is empty and what I see there is saved in the attachment.

Oh, and BTW, airlifting is still not working with viewports on and runs fine with viewports off here.

Nope, it was a bug in the original compatibility format code, which left an uninitialized variable for the number of vote options for a vote instance. Often the uninitialized value would be zero, which had no serious consequence, but if it's a very large number (half a million in Snorfu's case) it would try to read that many entries frm the save. They a not n the (first) save so they wind up uninitialized but still extant. When that is then saved they a crystalized into still-garbage, but now real instances, which stay in the save forevermore.

It was all down to writ an unsigned int, but trying to read a signed one, which the max compat code won't match up (treats as a different tag type and assumes it is a version mismatch which should be ignored)

In regard to the city switching, how do I put it into the mode you are using?

In regard to the airlift, are you using the second version I pushed (the two fixes we in different versions, the first of which only had the save format fix)?

In regard to the problem Hydro is reporting about the civics screen. I get the problem if I look at the pedia before loading a game and get a python error pointing to line 854 which is used for everything. If I go into the pedia after loading a game everything is fine.

Could it be something to do with the new options coding? Are there any in the civics? Perhaps there is two civics at that point with just the details different?

The options coding isn't in place for civics yet or I'd have suspected that as a possibility as well.

After loading a game its fine? Very strange... not sure what that means for diagnosis.
