The situation isn't desperate but it's not great. I was able to build up a nest egg for emergencies that's floating us while I'm unemployed but it's not enough to put down payment on a house, much less in a market like southern California. Even if I wanted to move to a lower cost of living area, there aren't jobs in those areas I'm interested in.Sorry about your situation. For better or worse, our society cares more about property owners' rights than tenants' rights.
I don't know your financial situation, but maybe this is a sign to start looking into homeownership.
I don't have enough for a tiny home either without depleting my nest egg. I'd also have to get rid of most of my stuff to fit it all in there or rent a storage locker.
