Random Rants 94 I rant at the thread title and shake my fist menacingly.

There's a lot of (legitimate, non-petty) things to complain about, but I find myself feeling ashamed the moment I express any of them, publicly or privately. The side effect of this is that I am approaching overwhelm since I have no realistic outlet for those feelings. (I have never really derived any benefit from journaling.)
Have you thought trying to express this through art? Not just writing (fiction might help) but painting, drawing, sculpting, perhaps making some music.
The SPD are a bunch of weirdos, and I'm theoretically the demographic best positioned to happily walk away from an encounter with the police. Can't imagine it going any better for demographics known to be profiled and harassed.
!!

It can be quite cathartic to put some characters through the ringer, or even just write a stream-of-consciousness thing. It doesn't need a plot or established characters, or even sentence structure. But it can help.

Oh, and we're having a sudden thunderstorm and rain now. Maddy is restless.

Okay, that one was loud...

I have all the creative ability of a particularly dull-looking rock. I did write a poem, and it got a great response from my writing group, but it ended up making me feel worse (due to the subject of the poem, and knowing it can never be shared). :dunno:

Funnily enough, writing is one of the complaints I have; it's been (at least) four years since I have written anything for me. All of my writing has been for, or about, a specific person, ranging from simple flash fiction exchange with another writer to sentimental stuff. I can't think of the last thing I wrote that wasn't centric around someone else.

As a veteran of Iron Pen, you should go re-read your stories. I liked them.

This might make an interesting thread in itself.

I don't even dislike the police but at the end of the day you are inviting an armed agent of the state specifically trained and assigned to be suspicious of everyone and anyone into your life and there is a very high bar to clear before you do something like that.

Is it a case of you not getting satisfaction from writing for yourself or something else?

I can't recall any positive interaction I've had with cops. I just thought it might make a thread of its own. There's an elderly woman on another of my gaming forums who is having multiple problems with her local cops. She's desperate to move, but it's difficult.

My go-to excuse is that I don't have the mental energy necessary to craft a narrative that I can approve of. Which is probably true, but I'm not sure it's a workable excuse in the long term, which four years certainly is. :P

So inflation's getting so bad that the Central Bank has decided not to publish a report on inflation until after the upcoming elections in three weeks' time.

It's often actually harder to find the motivation to write (or sing, or sculpt, or whatever) than to find what to write about or how.

What’s the root cause of the Argentine inflation? Is it just annoying number changes? Are wages skyrocketing? Or is there a good shortage?

Overspending financed by printing money to the tune of ~8× the money supply.

Sure but like “why”?

My news site will only let me comment if I use Firefox. This is really inconvenient because everything else I'm doing these days is using Edge or Opera.

I wasn't aware anyone actually used Edge apart from accidentally clicking on it.

I haven't had my current computer very long, and when I started setting it up, it insisted on using Edge. I finally quit arguing, and eventually figured out that yes, I can use Edge and Opera at the same time.

Opera and Firefox don't play nicely together, so right now I'm only using Firefox to comment on my news site.

Current hot topic: Book bans in Texas and a law requiring booksellers of educational materials to vet their own inventory for "explicit sexual content". They've pointed out that the guidelines are so vague that this could result in Shakespeare and the bible being banned.

Apparently the Canadian government, when the hate speech laws were enacted, included an exemption for stuff like the bible, which actually does contain a lot of hate speech as it's defined in our laws.

Corruption, utter incapacity, a system designed to engineer the permanent selection of as bad or if possible worse leaders, straight-up personality cult, a society that permits this.
Ultimately it's a giant Ponzi scheme and a drive for an upwards redistribution of wealth.

Ok, so how is it driving wealth upwards?

buy 10 units of stuff . Each costs 10 units of money . You will sell them at 20 each . Then let us say there is something that involves the whole economy and you can sell the lot at 30 each ; your customers have no other option , it is the same thing everywhere . Instead of a profit of 100 now you have 200 . Obviously there will be the devoted (to the religion of Capitalism) to say you will spend more to replenish the stock . And the profits will evaporate , you DO have to buy yours at higher prices . Except you also have friends that sell you US dollars under the counter . And not to your competitors . Your profits remain the same , because the foreign currency will happily match any increase in prices and your competitors wither . Meaning when the foreign currency increase would justify a sale price of 30 , you can sell at 40 and your disgruntled customers can collect their dinners from garbage cans if they so desire . Marie Antoinette was innocent , she ordered any cakes in the palace to be given to the mob of people who couldn't find bread . Inflationary countries live with other realities .
