Random Rants 94 I rant at the thread title and shake my fist menacingly.

This is why I consider it actually to be a service to humanity at large to accumulate as many .avi and .mp4 files of films and tv episodes as possible
So much.

Hm. Nothing turned up for me. I've got multiple ad-blockers. When some of the channels I watch already have sponsor placements (only Shadiversity includes them in an entertaining way that doesn't detract from whatever his topic is), I'm not buying (no pun intended) this "think of the creators" litany.

I'm more concerned right now with the crap Google is pulling with searching for Canadian news sites and disallowing Canadian news on FB.

If they do start making that widespread and stop you from using adblockers, I'm not going to stop using adblockers on Youtube, I'm just going to stop using Youtube.

Now where in the high seas am I gonna get videos of Markiplier’s let’s plays and City Planner Plays and Biffa’s videos of their City Skylines builds 🤔

Indeed, Youtube should stop this greedy nonsense and realize there will be either a mass exodus from it or new software (legal or not) developed to still cancel the ads.

I haven't yet encountered any message, btw, so I suppose the "small experiment" is only run in some more populous countries (makes sense).

A couple of days ago someone revived a Dune conversation I was part of... from four years previously.

It was one of those cases of he'd misread my post, just had to scream at me about it, and while I was trying to find his entire post to point out his errors, I found some really interesting comments other people had made in the meantime - including a very nice compliment paid to me for raising the scope of the discussion beyond the current set of movies. They appreciated someone being able to speak knowledgeably about all six novels, plus the Dune Encyclopedia and explain why certain characters did certain things ('cause they're not explicitly spoonfed to the audience, not to mention why Villeneuve's way of writing Duke Leto's approach to parenting and the duties of a ducal heir is just so much BS).

There are some really excellent history-themed channels I don't want to give up. They're interesting and invaluable for fact-checking some of the things I've put into my stories (gotta rewrite that bit about the crossbow, as I really messed up on that).

When twitch fought the adblockers and won, I stopped watching twitch

I have to keep reminding myself that mosquitoes are food for bats, and therefore serve some useful function in the food chain. Otherwise, I really wouldn't mind if they became extinct.

Whew. Sommer, you're alive! I saw that post about raisins days ago and you weren't replying. I thought something bad had happened to you.

Fixed my garage door opener today (it wouldn't keep the door down and was smoking during use). Ancient thing that is not manufactured or supplied anymore. Absolute Pain ITA... Repair steps:

1. Researching to find out problem was a blown capacitor
2. Removing said capacitor from the unit, including minor electrical work
3. Researching where to find the exact match capacitor
4. Ordering capacitor
5. Installing replacement, including minor electrical work
6. (Still didn't work) Researching why
7. Removing broken bracket, which required socket wrenches
8. Removing and replacing up-force cam multiple times which involved going into my Dad's (RIP) old tools to find a socket wrench that fit
9. Removing and replacing down-force cam multiple times (which had popped of and was in a random corner of the garage looking like something that was important, but I had no idea what it was until I researched it.

Took a few hours (once the part arrived)... made me have to postpone dinner  But now that I think about it... Its fixed! That's rave-worthy... I'm doing it...

Don't forget, we have a whole thread for "What have you repaired lately?"

You* are of course welcome to post such material in the raves thread instead.

Good job, in any case.

*the civil you

Vacationing with my family and we have to be up pretty early tomorrow morning for a good long drive on the road, which of course means that tonight's the night the hotel we're staying at has the fire alarm go off

Archive Of Our Own went down for maintenance.

I HAVE MANY MERLIN STORIES TO READ!!! :gripe:

They'd better be up and running by tomorrow. The newest chapter of "Wind Up All the Clocks" comes out on Tuesdays (a Harry Potter story in which Hermione marries Arthur Weasley; they're on holiday in Canada now to visit Arthur's brother in Saskatchewan, and the author plans to have them go to some of the places in Alberta I've been to).

Well, they went down because of a DDoS attack, actually...

I found it hard to find out what happened, not least because the AO3 status account is on Twitter...
