Once I was on a highway that had a closed lane, so everyone had merged, but there was this one guy who decided to try and drive up the breakdown lane (which was blocked further up). His plans were thwarted, as a truck moved across and deliberately parked itself in the breakdown lane, moving at the same speed as the rest of the traffic. It was hilarious.

That must've been hilarious.

Sorry for the inconvenience

I don't think anyone's accused VRWC of being blond and fluffy in a very long time, if ever! :p

Yeah I've seen a similar thing. Traffic jam in the left lane, while some people were speeding past in the right lane to push in at the front. The truck driver in front of me pulled halfway over into the right lane so no more could get past

Of course I stayed as close to the truck as I safely could, so the rude people had to try to fit in somewhere behind me.

A super cyclone the size of Katrina is just going to hit right where I am(Visakhapatnam) give or take 100km in 12 hours . Internet and Electricity breakdown expected . Of course given Indian infrastrucuture the bigger problem would be mass causalities .
Spoiler :

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...atastrophic-cyclone-phailin-headed-for-india/
Over the last day, a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal has explosively strengthened as it marches towards the east coast of India, presenting a clear and present danger to the country of over a billion people.
In the last 18 hours, Phailin’s peak winds have increased an astonishing 80 mph (or 70 knots), a rare rate of intensification.
“Based on satellite estimates, maximum sustained winds are now easily around 160 mph (140 knots),” says Ryan Maue, a meteorologist at WeatherBell.com, a private forecasting services company.
Those wind speeds would make Phailin the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane, capable of catastrophic damage.
Phailin is not only intense, but also large.
“It’s equivalent to Katrina in size,” Maue says.
The storm is headed steadily northwest, on an unavoidable collision course with India’s east coast. Landfall is expected Saturday afternoon or evening local time (Saturday morning EDT), northeast of Visakhapatnam, on its current track provided by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

But but , don't mess with my net , bro :nono:

Just got off work and again for the 3rd time in the past month, I have had to deal with a self-righteous Ivy League <snip>. For those who don't know, I work for the city of Fort Lauderdale answering phone calls and redirecting them to the proper location (such as real estate or road issues). This woman called to ask "Why won't this vending machine give me my .25 cent back when I put in a dollar," to which I responded "Let me redirect you hold on." She responds "Do you know who I <snip> am!? I am a Princeton graduate. and this is not acceptable." Let me state that many of you lot of Ivy Leaguers have yet to prove to me that many of you aren't arrogant douches. You also make the hard-working decent people at those schools look back with your attitudes. STOP IT!

Eventually everybody whose job title can loosely be interpreted as "secretary" learns the horrible, yet homicidal rage reducing, tactic of providing slow-ass service to people who can't manage to not be raging sphincters to administrative/service personnel. Not that I have any experience with that at all, newp, nope, no clue why your forms haven't been filed. Let me resubmit those to make sure they go through. Should take about 2 weeks to process.

Treat workers with respect.

And Princeton's football team ain't so hot.

Did you just swear at me? Oh dear, the system's not working, I'll have to enter your files by typing it in the old Remington, sir…

Teaching also teaches horrible, yet homicidal-rage reducing tactics. Telling the little sod's parents is, of course, a useful last resort.

I once interned for a local state representative, learned quite a bit about the "secretarial"/"customer service" sort of stuff while answering calls from constituents. Stuff like:

"M'am/sir, but we don't handle that stuff since the Assemblyman does [etc. etc. etc.]"
"But you're the government! Do something about it! Otherwise you're not patriotic!"
"M'am/sir, if you want you can speak to [insert appropriate government branch/bureaucratic organ] - "
"Why can't you do something? You're part of the government!"
"But we're legislative, not executive/police force/people who handle [x], [etc. etc. etc.]

And so on.

Most memorable one was when a lady called and started quoting random stuff from the Bible, I had to transfer her to the Chief of Staff because I didn't know how to handle it, and he had quite a long chat with her. That was mostly her quoting from the Bible.

And then there were some random people who kept calling every single friggin' day to the main staffer who worked there to talk about something.

Government workers have to put up with such crap. I have a HS friend who works for the State Department -- in Afghanistan!

Thankless job...

Actually, it's pretty amusing to see attitudes towards government bureaucrats differ across cultures. An 18-year old from Naperville? Not unlikely to treat you like a Starbucks employee that just shat in their coffee. A non-traditional student(say 40ish years old) from an old Soviet territory? You almost have to beat them off with a stick as they tend to be overly obsequious. It's like, dude, I really don't need a bribe. I'll file your crap. But have a nice day!

And then there were the hardcore Tea Party folks. Oh god, those were... entertaining, to say the least.

I mean, I was working for a Republican politician (I'm not Republican, btw, nor am I Democrat, but I just wanted an internship, so yeah), but even everyone else there was all kind of tired of the hardcore Tea Party shenanigans.

I remember the main staffer there (poor guy, he usually got all this nonsense, but he was a really patient and friendly fellow so I guess that helped) kept getting bothered by this one old guy who was the leader of some organization called the "Oath Keepers" that had something to do with some Tea Party Constitution ideals or something of that sort. The old guy kept calling, sending emails, even randomly visiting the office every now and then. And most of the stuff he kept requesting or telling us we just couldn't do.

I feel as if some of these people weren't even aware of what we could and couldn't do. Give us a bill idea? Give us your opinion on some legislation? Ask us for assistance in navigating the bureaucracy for a certain issue? Sure. Overthrow the government? Destroy a bureaucracy? Not so much. Impeach Obama? Come on, we were a state legislator, we can't even impeach Obama.

I remember the head of staff one time had to keep telling this guy on the phone, "We can't impeach Obama, we're just part of the state legislature, the best thing we can all do is vote for Romney in the 2012 election!" And the other guy went back with some rant about how we're all part of some conspiracy trying to overthrow the Constitution or whatever.

Oh well. Gave me a lot of respect for the people who work in customer service and so on, or at least made me understand why they were sometimes acting unpleasant.

2-3 loss today to a team we should have easily beaten. One goal due to a...bad referee call (ref didn't specify if it was direct or indirect, ref never blew the whistle for the shot, it somehow found the back of the net, and was called a goal). One goal we could have got if the ref realized their goalie grabbed onto one of our players, and that player then missed the ball. And one goal was due to a mistake by me, but could have been prevented if my teammates, y'know, actually put some speed to get back into position instead of standing around. This resulted in me AND the two guys who didn't fall back being benched for the last ten minutes. On top of this, some of my friends were suddenly treating me like **** this week for seemingly no reason, and halfway through the term, my grade for English 10 is still not up where I've tried to get it.
This week could not have ******* ended sooner.

Not really a rant so much as a major disappointment, but we don't have a random disappointments thread, so I'm putting it here.

A screen I'd really hoped to never see again in my life:

The only vaguely political nonsense I've had to deal with my job is some old guy who came storming into the office about 1 month ago to demand why his driver's license was suspended. I told him that he needed to go to DMV to resolve the issue, and I could only tell them by phone that he was coming in. He then responded by then saying that he was at a "political rally where Sarah Palin winked at him, and that you (I) would never be so honored by a beautiful politician." He then ran off to DMV while I remained mystified at what happened.

I think it has a few months. But I had to load it before I could reload my vista upgrade. It had Win 8, and it ran great with Win8 with one exception... video. The X1400 AMD video card is in legacy and has no Windows 8 driver and none of the old ones worked... some conflict or whatever. Nightmare. So all it had was some MS basic default video driver. Couldn't use any video apps at all, and even games didn't run right.

It's my old backup computer, but I still like to have it functional and I just got tired of the video not working right so I'm rolling it back to Vista.

Is this more of your sharing nonsense?
