Random Rants XLII: The Four-Part Plan

Got into an argument and was falsely accused of something. But I came up with some great zingers that would've settled the whole thing on the spot. Two hours later, that is. *sigh* :(

The French have a word for that. L'espirit de l'escalier.

last saturday, i had to wake up at 5:15 am to go to a tournament in washington, dc. i so set the alarm on my phone to that time, okay?

due to the amount of work i had this week, i had very little sleep. so it would come as no surprise that i would take a THREE hour nap. naturally, i would go to bed at 3:30am or something.

fast forward to today. my alarm goes off and i go to my desk to turn it off. now, for some reason, i proceed to the shower. midway through my shower i realized two things: first off, it's 5am. second, today is a saturday. undettered, i finish taking my shower and i go back to sleep still really confused.

Rant: Yay, I've failed for sure 2/5 subjects this term. And most possibly my physics marks mean I've failed 3/5 already, yay! I know I'm going to pass economy quite easily, but I don't have hopes on Calculus.

Say goodbye to a year of your life! :wavey:

As much as I like to criticize the French and what they've done to the English language, particularly the spelling, I've got to give them credit: The French have phrases for everything. (What's the French phrase for that? :D)

Continuation of my last rant: There's a chance it may come up again in the near future, which poses a new problem: Should I just suck it up and try to put it behind me, or go the nuclear route, which would most likely land me in a state of war? On the one hand, going nuclear let's me take off my chest the feelings that have been building up inside of me for months. On the other hand, I try to avoid unnecessary confrontation. But finally, I would be defending my honor, which I do not appreciate being stained with false accusations.

It probably won't come up, but I still have to figure out what I would do if it does. Meh. Neither option is enticing. :undecide:

NickyJ, besides criticising those who gave you your freedom, don't you think that no French could've meant a continuation of the runic alphabet and/or a very German-sounding language in Ingerland?

My great-grandfather was a German, so I wouldn't mind. :D

Rant: 12 hours straight of travelling sucks balls.

Rant: Fug da UK Border Security

Rave: At least I didn't have to go through 6 hours in a holding cell this time!

We have some of the most restrictive border controls in Europe. Naturally, the UK is still drowning under the weight of illegal and Eastern European immigrants stealing our jobs, repressing Anglican white people and imposing Sharia law on Great Britain.

Not sure if serious?

Well, you might come to the second sentence's conclusion if you read certain hysterical right-wing publications, but no, I'm not serious. The first sentence is accurate enough.

In the same way that "some" applauded the WTC towers being attacked. You get extremists everywhere.

The use of Sharia, or Islamic religious law, is growing in Britain, with thousands of Muslims using it to settle disputes each year, but women's groups and some others are objecting.
An estimated 85 Sharia councils could be operating in Britain, according to a 2009 report by the think tank Civitas.

But the informal councils have no legal powers and they cannot impose any penalties.

They deal with civil cases alone, but many Muslims are choosing to voluntarily accept rulings made by the scholars.

Well, yes, as a form of contract law, I suppose. I didn't intend to sound defensive, so let's forget I said anything.

That goes away after you got used to their accent.
It's also easier in a bigger group, because maintaining a conversation is a lot easier, and the more you talk, the better it gets.

They don't speak English especially well; it's not just the accents. And one of them I've become an English tutor to, which I'm not really prepared to do. It doesn't help that my school assigns pretty crappy literature. The other is a cute girl who seems like she might potentially be into me, but my suspicion is that she doesn't quite get how she's coming across due to unfamiliarity with English and American culture. And then I worry that I'm being condescending and underestimating them completely. .
