I want to agree, but it's becoming a trend where after you provide a shred of resistance to a claim or opinion the discussion train just falls apart and it results in people just giving up on trying to talk about the subject. It's quickly turning into a rinse and repeat cycle.

I like talking to rightwingers who deal in facts and can argue civilly and not have an overweening agenda to push.

I can't say that for most of our current crop of rightwingers.

So this lawyer has pledged to help 500 people leave the Mormon church for free (the church usually gets in the way of you wanting to leave, but if a lawyer gets involved they play nice) and due to the recent BS (anti-gay rhetoric) in the church he's now almost up to 2,000 for the year.

He's on a mission! I think that makes him a missionary!

And I have nothing against Mormons, all Mormons I've ever met have been upstanding and super nice people. I just hate organizations that jerk people around and do douchy things. And in this case I think this is a cause for a celebration

It depends. Sometimes it gets annoying when you feel like they're addressing what they think you've said instead of what you've actually said.

Pending an interview tomorrow, I will be their new dish scrubber in the cafe kitchen ... :x

The position also needed knowledge of food hygiene so I flashed my Human Biology degree and Food Tech GSCE at them and they said I was qualified enough to scrub dishes. Erm yay?

They can't change their minds and won't change the subject. Rational discussion is extremely difficult with people in general, is even more difficult over the internet, and is basically impossible with those who have the zeal of a missionary.

So the man is helping people break out of some contract signed out with the Mormon Church. Wow. I… we evul Catholics can simply stop going to Church and the priest will say Hi if he sees you on the street anyway. Of course the Church has its problems, but it won't make you sign a contract at least. :/

I had the goal of 500 resignations by the end of the year. Within 72 hours, you guys TRIPLED that!!! Incredible! Granted, many of these are only just now going out in the mail.

For those of you still wanting to resign, here's the deal:

Form Resignation Letter

These forms are blank for each of you to fill in. Please complete your name, address, membership number (if you have it), and date of birth on the Resignation Letter. Your membership number is not necessary. It is fine if you do not have it.

Then complete all the fields on the Authorization form. If you have changed names or have a maiden name, please put both names on the forms.

Please be sure to sign both forms.

You may include an any letter or other explanation for your leaving. Please send it along with everything else if you would like it to be included.

Please return all of the completed and signed forms to me in one of three ways:

1. Scan and email them (preferably as PDFs) to nauglelaw@gmail.com;

If you are a single parent, you may be the only one to sign if you have documentation giving you the authority to act alone. e.g. Death Certificate of other parent, custody order giving you sole power over religious decisions, etc. Please scan and return that documentation to me with the letter and authorization form.

Parents may sign the Resignation Letter on behalf of their minor children.

Once I receive them, I will mail them out to Confidential Records. They usually respond with confirmation that your name has been removed within 15 days. When I receive the confirmation, I will return it to you via PDF in an email.

You should receive absolutely no contact. If you do, please let me know immediately and tell them they will need to speak with your attorney. I will receive the confirmation that you have been removed and forward it to you.

Just got back from seeing the founder of The Onion give a speech. Talked with him a bit, got a pic with him and an autographed book.

My friend asked me to go to this Paint Nite thing and I like trying new things so I said yes.

Turns out it's fun... also turns out I'm decent at painting owls sitting on branches!

But the most eye opening part was that ONLY WOMEN seem to go to these things (judging by this first experience and the pictures from my town they have up on FB). The way it works is you meet at a bar, they have a thing set up, and you sit down and you drink and socialize and paint. There was me, another dude, and like 30 women. And I guess a female teacher and her female assistant.

I learned a lot about the basics of acrylic painting (on canvas) so that was cool. Got to hang out with my friend, who I haven't seen for a while, so that was also cool. But finding a den of women all socializing in a socially acceptable and comfortable setting with me in it? That almost felt evil. If I was a schemer, I would be scheming right now, planning the next paint nite excursion with my friend, writing up wingman tips for her, and more. Seems like a perfect place to meet people. And flirt with cute assistants! Who have to talk to you if you ask for help.

Mind you my next move is to tell my boss that we need to do this as a team excursion type thing or whatever. He asked me to get back to him about that tomorrow - guess a retreat of some sort is in the plans. And this definitely gets my vote, so I'm passing on the recommendation and hope that we go.
