It's an ill wind that blows nobody good.

It's a ill wind that doesn't even blow some lobster good.

That's how I'm going to say it the next time I'm called on to use that proverb. Just let people try to puzzle it out.

There are subtle differences that only Germans will notice.
These differences being…?
Well, at the very least we can surmise that lobsters do have a different perspective.
Do they have perspective, or do their eyes aim in opposite direction, like those of horses?

On TV is an infomercial for Norton Antivirus (yuck) anti-identity theft thingy and there's a guy there talking about how he got a big cheque from the company after his identity got stolen anyways. :crazyeye:

In the options for VidCoder , I found an option to pause encoding whenever specific applications are running. So I did the obvious thing and set it to pause encoding whenever VidCoder was running. :mischief: I just wanted to see what would happen.

Between trolling and satire? Well, there are many, but I think the biggest one is intent. One is a cynical attempt to get a reaction out of another person, and the other one is trying to make a point about a person or society. So to avoid that, one has to get their intent across, and I think in this case it worked, given that nobody made a serious response to the words that were written, people immediately understood the message that was sent in the subtext.

What is interesting is that hobbsyoyo then reacted to the satire that he had clearly understood as such and still called me out on it, but I don't think that's a valid complaint. When he realizes that I'm using very on-the-nose satire to make a point and claims that it's indistinguishable from "the real thing" (trolling), then what he is saying is that Satire IS trolling in his opinion, which I very much disagree with. That complaint might have been valid had my satire been very subtle - like it sometimes is, but not in this case; I went out of my way to go over the top to make sure people understand that I don't stand behind the literal meaning of the words I write - because then it really would not have been apparent whether I was making a point or just fishing for a reaction, and my post could have been perceived as either of the two. Not the case here.

Of course I was also being ironic when I claimed that only Germans can spot those "subtle" differences.

Saw a meme today and I have to say, I actually loved the message it conveyed.

The text of the meme said "Life is all about perspective. The sinking of the Titanic was a miracle to the lobsters in the kitchen."

Now yes, if you want to get technical, even the lobsters would have died because they aren't meant to be deep sea creatures, but the message still holds true. That message being that what one person or group may see as a tragedy another person or group may see as a wondrous event or great success, highlighting the fact that there is no such thing as objective morality and concepts of "good" and "evil" are concepts that everyone understands but defines differently.

seeing this post from you blows me out of the water. kudos!

It paused the video encoding.

When you're searching for something in your apartment, and have some vague memory of placing it somewhere where you'll remember it so you don't have to look for it... but can't remember where you've placed it... that must be one of the most annoying feelings a person can feel.

It's like when you're trying to say something, but the right word won't come to your mind, and then you really want to remember it, so you think harder, but it doesn't help and only increases your frustration that you can't remember that word, but 10 times stronger.

The classic "I put it where I wouldn't lose it." I have solved that problem. I have no stuff.

At least it can prompt a person to do some tidying up so the thing can be found. That's how I found the book I've been looking for over the past couple of weeks.

The problem now is what to do with the newspapers and fliers that were covering it up. There used to be a paper recycling box in the lobby but that was taken away several managers ago.
