Random Thoughts IV: the Abyss Gazes Back

I don't at all understand why you'd be so concerned about defeating your small child when you're playing a simple game with him or her. I mean, how ultra-competitive do you really have to be to be upset if you're losing such a game?

Last night I started feeling odd about my birthday next week and turning 36. I've never really paid much attention to my age before, but for some reason I just started feeling like I'm turning old, like I've passed a milestone or something. I guess I sort of liked thinking of myself as being 35, and 36 just feels like "late thirties" to me. I'm finding it a weird and unusual feeling, and suddenly I want to stay 35 lol.

It's easy to stay above the fray until a 10 year old crushes you in Fortnite.
Then beating kids becomes necessary.

I too am around 35, and I noticed a few of my hairs have turned white.
It is alarming to realize one is getting older.
Better than the alternative though.

Take poor hamsters.
They live 2 years and one can watch them go from tan and healthy to gray and dying in 4 weeks.

Or read this multi-year cancer blog.
That's as tough as it gets.

Since 2015, when I step out the door I like to say, "The future. Whoa. Doc I gotta check this out."
Automatically makes it better.
We're in the best part of the future before the cheap oil runs out, so soak it in. :)

There are days when I think Purge Night is not such a bad idea after all. One night for you to solve all of your problems, take violent revenge on all who have wronged you, and then go back to civility as if nothing happened.

But then I remember that this applies to all the other people, too, and suddenly I don't like the idea that much anymore. The way The Purge portrays the situation is as if the most insane people would make best use of it, but I think more realistically, it's the extroverts who would rule the night. Because they likely have the structures that allow them to gang up on me, while I'd have like... three people who I could ask to help me get my violent revenge, and two of them would likely not show up. :D

So it would be two of us of vs. ~5 gangs of people who would likely come for my head. I guess I could always hope that they kill each other when they arrive at my house instead of teaming up on me. That's a strategy, right? :goodjob:

Purge night would be nice.

I don't have enemies and I hold grudges against people who probably don't know...

...oh...

,,,maybe there are people out there who consider me their mortal enemy, and I'm not even aware of that.

Only kindness matters. Revenge fantasies are ok though.

at a hidden base somewhere in Antarctica, @Plotinus snarls "we shall meet on the field of battle, mountebank"

It looks like a haiku
I'm not sure whether it counts when 'tis in English
but it's nice
Of course it is a haiku. English haiku rules are not the same as those for Japanese. I am quite fond of it, too.

I've noticed this as well, and am not sure if men are aware of the signals that they send to the women around them. They're basically making the statement that they're not going to hold back just because society expects them to be civilized.

I'm somewhat inclined to call it sexual harassment, but even if we don't go that far, at the very least it's toxic masculinity. People declaring that a space belongs to them, and that they can act in it however they see fit. It's like they think of us as second-class citizens, and I sometimes think we are given that we constantly have to deal with crap like this.
Remind us again about how deep you actually are and how you are totally not a grenade-lobbing shockpost troll?

I'm formulating a theory that the reason a lot of Americans throw the word "troll" around with such abandon is beause they have a relatively undeveloped sense of humour.

TROLL!!!!

Nine times out of ten the person saying "that was a joke, I'm not a troll" is the one with the undeveloped sense of humor.

I think you guys mean underdeveloped, not undeveloped.

But that's not how humor works. One can't have an "undeveloped" sense of humor, even babies understand humor and will laugh at silly faces you make. If you think ones humor is bad, then they have an underdeveloped sense of humor (= a bad sense of humor) in your opinion, not an undeveloped (= nonexistent) one.

Sooooo....you are saying, with authority, that using a photo negative as an analogy for something that is reversed is unacceptable?

Not sure I completely understand the analogy. What's a "photo negative"? Do you mean swapping the colors to be their opposites on the color spectrum?
