Religious Vote

I'm religious, and I'd vote for an atheist if their political views were in line with mine. I'm not terribly concerned about the religious affiliation of the people I vote for.

ditto.

You know what? In a very local election, with all other factors being equal, I think I would support an active religious person over somebody who wasn't, simply because being active in a local church is strong level of community engagement which I think would be beneficial for a local office. If they other guy was active in some sort of comparable community pillar, then no harm no foul.

I would, of course, still vote for an athiest should our politics align, and I am almost certain that a few of the people I voted for were religious in name only.

I second this.

I'd vote for an atheist if I could trust them and they were better than the other options. It probably wouldn't be too big a deal.

Now, I would never vote for any kind of anti-theist (Someone who actually believes religion is harmful) however...
Instead of telling you how ridiculous this sounds, let me just show you.

It was a generalization and I didn't know you were involved in politics.

Dachs is one of the most deeply political, partisan minded people on the forums. The way he gets worked up about that sort of thing actually scares me. From what I've been able to gather, his bedsheets bear the logo of his preferred political party.

The only problem is that we don't know what his politics actually are, because even though basically every history post he’s ever made references them, understanding his references and injokes would require a working understanding of the first two hundred years of the Hellenic period, deleted scenes from the Avatar series DVDS, the personal lives of the German General Staff during WWI, and the backlogs of several obscure history periodicals.

ex: This, from what I've been able to decode, is a vicious attack on one of the last three presidents of the US. I'm just not sure which one.

Far more problematic for me is that the Australian PM is the child of economic refugees: THEY TOOK OUR JEBS.

She wasn't even born here. :shake:

The really bad thing is that I've actually overheard someone on a train seriously complaining about that fact, and surmising that she was thus unfit to be PM.

I think it kinda goes to show just how ridiculous some people's reasoning can be. And I think it's probably demonstrative of the fact that people will attempt to come up with additional excuses to support their political position. "They're an atheist" may just be something else someone adds to a list to help convince themselves of their correctness.

I'd vote for anyone whose policies I actually respected and who wasn't revealed as a spineless scumbag.

Reasons not to vote for atheists:

- They don't know right from wrong.
- They're anti-semites.
- They're just not nice, always mean and grouchy.
- They think you're a monkey.
- They support the uncool (ie. non priest-alterboy) anal sex.

You forgot the baby eating but otherwise that fits perfectly!

Well thats mainly the Jews, but the two are not mutually exclusive. Especially when they're communist.

Though I'm on the other side of the fence, I agree with this too.

:goodjob: I agree completely with this. Be trustworthy, agree with what I think, and be better than other options. And most of all, never be an anti-theist.

If they agree with your highly-specific brand of Christian morals, they certainly won't be anti-theist, now would they?

How is that ridiculous? I don't agree with it, but its not ridiculous...

Yea. Talk about it. I hate when that happens. >.>

Atheism isn't a good thing though, so yeah, I'm kinda anti-atheist:)

Personally, I'd rather live next door to forty atheists than live next door to a gay-hating, hallelujah fundamentalist, but then we all have our differences.
