Why wouldn't I? Simple, I don't want someone who hates my belief representing me.
Yea. Talk about it. I hate when that happens. >.>

I used the one true deity.Aaand somebody's already said what I wanted to say, albeit with the wrong deity.![]()
I'm religious, and I'd vote for an atheist if their political views were in line with mine. I'm not terribly concerned about the religious affiliation of the people I vote for.
Pft. If the Lord of Storms tried to claim that, he'd be put in his place.I used the one true deity.![]()
You know what? In a very local election, with all other factors being equal, I think I would support an active religious person over somebody who wasn't, simply because being active in a local church is strong level of community engagement which I think would be beneficial for a local office. If they other guy was active in some sort of comparable community pillar, then no harm no foul.
I would, of course, still vote for an athiest should our politics align, and I am almost certain that a few of the people I voted for were religious in name only.
Instead of telling you how ridiculous this sounds, let me just show you.I'd vote for an atheist if I could trust them and they were better than the other options. It probably wouldn't be too big a deal.
Now, I would never vote for any kind of anti-theist (Someone who actually believes religion is harmful) however...
No, it's not. I've never faced any meaningful persecution for my beliefs.
It was a generalization and I didn't know you were involved in politics.
Far more problematic for me is that the Australian PM is the child of economic refugees: THEY TOOK OUR JEBS.
Reasons not to vote for atheists:
- They don't know right from wrong.
- They're anti-semites.
- They're just not nice, always mean and grouchy.
- They think you're a monkey.
- They support the uncool (ie. non priest-alterboy) anal sex.

Spoiler :I'd vote for a theist if I could trust them and they were better than the other options. It probably wouldn't be too big a deal.
