Seven shot dead at US army base

The suspect was an Army psychiatrist who had been at Walter Reed and currently based at Ft. Hood--soon to have been deployed to Iraq.

Less tastless comments please.

Interesting, this thread only has three pages.

Probably because the title makes it sound like just another attack in Afghanistan.

Its after the work day here in the US, we only waste our time at this site during those hours ;)

I am actually waiting for more details, no point in commenting on a story this fluid.

I must confess, I am a calloused buttface as well. My first thought upon seeing the news was (largely thanks to this place) "great, now we gotta pull out of Texas." I guess we'll just let them go on about their barbarian way and live in the stone age; we tried to help but those people just are the way they are and they don't want to change.

Not everything in this post should be taken as a joke.

Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July.

The officials had access to Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.

The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He was 39 years old.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

US Born, highly educated, well into hes middle age, six years in the military service.
(anyone know if officer training and military university would be another three years ?)

If Mobboss and Ecofarm are making jokes about the shooting it cant be too bad.
(allegation of terrorist attack and Obama fault are being posted in bloggs already as a comparision to the reaction of CFCers)

One of the men being held is Obama? Why did Obama shoot people up?

It's a terrible thing and I shouldn't make jokes. Someone will start claiming that I don't care how many soldiers get killed because they aren't real people... or something like that.

The guy snapped and went on a shooting spree, I guess. Happens more in the civilian world per capita, I bet.

We'll see if the other two have anything to do with it.

You know what blog post are like in the current polorized partisan atmosphere.

Mobboss joking referance to the manchurian candidate which seems less funny now. but is a comicial referance to Obama and communisim. mildly amused, very nicely played there

Maybe change the thread name to 12 dead 31 wounded at US army base?

BTW, the shooter was wounded not killed. Just saw that on Fox News.

This apparently is the worst mass shooting at a U.S. military base in history.

I really want to know what this guy's motive was...

This guy is a Muslim if I am correct. As a result, I can already guess at what many may be speculating whether it is true or not.

If a Christian person goes on a murdering spree, should I instantly assume that they are doing as such for religious reasons? If a Jewish person goes on a murdering spree, should I instantly assume that they are doing so on behalf of the Israeli government? No.

Okay, so I'll give it to you in this case that you have a reasonable chance of being correct in your assumption, but your presumptuous attitude towards it appears to me to be a sad indictment upon the society in which you live, and are a product of.
