Shopping Thread .. or What Did You Buy?

Glass bottles taste the best, followed by cans. plastic containers are the worst.

Taking bottles to the recycling facility is a pain in the butt that barely pays for the gas involved. Taking cans to the recycling facility is a day with a nice cash bonus, and if the cans are squished it pays like a day's work.
What do you get per can or bottle?

Here, anything under 2 litres is 10 cents, and 2 litres and over is 25 cents. That includes plastic bottles/jugs, glass bottles/jugs, and cartons for pop, juice, water, milk, tetra cartons, and a few other kinds. I have no idea about beer or liquor containers since I never drink any of that.

Unfortunately, Maddy's cat milk cartons aren't eligible (if they were, they'd be worth 10 cents each).

Yep. I can remember when the only way to get A&W Root Beer to take home was in gallon-size glass jugs (this was before Canada went metric), and that was a rare treat. Now it's available in any grocery store in either cans or 2-litre plastic bottles. I prefer to get it at the restaurants in a glass mug.

Of course I prefer the old formula, too. The stuff they serve now is definitely not like what they served in the '70s.

I don't really know. It goes by weight. I know that I sort stuff here, and when I load my truck with glass I get about forty to fifty dollars, unless I'm really motivated and pile it so high that I have to tie stuff down. If I load it full with cans (and I never pile them high because keeping them from blowing out is too much of a hassle) I get about eighty, and if I am diligent about squashing the cans when I sort them I get about a buck fifty.

It's not done by weight here - it's per item, according to size or type, but then I guess it's a different kind of facility. We have three bottle depots here, but as for actual recycling centres, I have no idea.

Yeah, there are places that do basic 'redemption value' stuff here too. I can't be bothered with the whole counting process because I'm just not going to take them in often enough. If I can't fill the truck and have some left over I'll put off filling the truck.

I got a new pet this morning, my little Daenerys. She's doing really well so far, she's very friendly and not shy at all.

She is pretty well camouflaged though.

I have genuinely no idea what I'm looking at. Can someone draw an outline?

Ah yes, a tarantula.

WHAP!
:trouble:
When it comes to spiders, I am in full agreement with Garfield.

I bought a new wireless mouse. I don't have a spare and my current one is starting to falter a bit. My thumb has almost rubbed through the material on the side as well.

It's lasted a long time. I bought it in 2015. I've never had a mouse that long. But I know since it's starting to falter I need a spare, and I really don't want to be stuck with using this laptop's awful trackpad.

I also bought a dozen cookies and two subs.

I hope it was a Razer! When I bought my last new one, I switched back to corded because I got tried of failing batteries.

Nah. It's a Logitech Marathon. I'd only go with a Razer if I went corded. With wireless, I find there's a low maximum for DPI and sensitivity that isn't helped by going with a gaming brand. I no longer play FPS games with others so I don't need great precision and the Marathon lasts about a year and a half with 8+ hours of use per day every day on two batteries.

(I used to feel the same about battery life. Every other wireless mouse I've tried tended to last 2-5 weeks before needing new batteries. The Logitech Marathon has been a nice surprise.)

Logitech M510 easily lasts 3+ months with heavy use, Logitech in general makes good gear if you ask me. Nothing on your Marathon but my memory's fuzzy so I'm giving it the most conservative take, on the long side I feel like it might have lasted as long as 9 months...

My work computer had a blue screen of death event and now it refuses to work with mice at all. It's a laptop and I can't use a trackpad for more than a few minutes without losing my mind. Send help!

Today I'm buying an IR sensor and paying for someone to install it as my TV no longer responds to remotes. I took apart the front panel of my TV and found the sensor to be hermetically sealed with no dust or visible damage. Replacing it is pretty straight forward but I don't have a soldering iron or the will to do the work myself. Plus, if it turns out to be a different issue than the IR sensor, the technician will be better equipped to diagnose and fix the problem than I would.

...and Ramon from OC AV Specialists hooked me up. Fast and convenient service at a decent price. My TV is working again!

Bonus Rave: Ramon is an amateur astronomer and we talked a lot about the telescopes he owns and uses while he worked.
