The sweetroll line is a legacy gag in Bethesda games, dating back to at least the Daggerfall character creation process. If you're a vampire, you're likely to look pale and unwell, so they might well ask you if you're sick.
In Morrowind, all PCs, even Dark Elves, were foreign, so it would make sense if it were so in this game.

Do I have to know all three words to a Shout before I can perform it? I've killed at least 7 dragons and haven't learned a single shout after absorbing their soul. Two of my shouts are still blacked out, but I only know one word from each.

I actually agree. There are some things I miss from earlier TES games in terms of character customization, but Attributes aren't one of them.

Ah, the interface strikes again.
You learn shouts from word walls and use dragon souls to unlock them. You can use a shout with only one word, but they get stronger when you know two or three words (you need to hold down the shout key to use the stronger version or tap to use the weak one).
Go to Magic->Shouts, select a shout and press 'R' to spend a soul to unlok it.
This will only allow the basic one-word version. If you have learned the other words you need to unlock them too, a complete shout will cost you three dragon souls.

You can learn the Thu'um even if you're not Dragonborn. Being Dragonborn just means you can immediately learn a shout if you absorb the knowledge of a dragon (its soul), rather than spending multiple years with the Greybeards to learn them.

It's not a major plot point; anyone can learn shouts and they don't need souls to do it. It's just that it takes years and years of personal introspection and meditation to even get the simplest of words under control for a non-dragonborn. See: Ulfric or the Greybeards. Being dragonborn just allows you to absorb the dragonsouls, and it means you have an aptitude with the dragon language that no one else save the dragons has, meaning you can learn their speech at an unthinkable pace.

Not a plot point.
It looks like everyone or nearly everyone can learn dragon shouts with enough talent and dedication, but the Dragonborn can just absorb a dragon's soul to master a shout and save himself years or decades of training. It's just a shortcut.

Can someone tell me why enemies are hitting me so hard, even one-hit kills at times? Are they supposed to do that? Are the armor spells broken? Is the perk Mage Armor broken? This is especially annoying in underground areas that don't have enough room to run around in. Although I also wonder why enemies in plate armor somehow run as fast as I do in my cloth robes. Is being a mage supposed to be very difficult in addition to being tedious?
I dunno, pump more into Conjuration if you're having difficulties. I think being a pure mage is a blast, but if you focus too much on Destruction you're gonna have early game struggles...

My Conjuration is actually higher than Destruction by 10 levels. Honestly, now I'm wondering why I went mage. I expected fun combat and got handed a crap sandwich. And I've spent so much time on this character that I don't want to re-roll.

Try upgrading your spells, if that's at all possible. My roommate is going pure mage, and he found it exceedingly difficult for a time, especially compared to me the big tank that could just barrel into everything without thinking about the consequences, but he recently upgraded to Adept level destruction and is now finding combat almost laughably easy; he levels up much faster now too. Spells may be expensive as all heah, but they are certainly worth it.

My mage was a pushover. If you've having trouble, lower the difficulty. I hear spellcasting is underpowered, and I believe it.

I hit R on the Xbox and it says I need a dragon soul. Do I need to cast Soul Trap on it? I have my dragon bones and scales stashed away, do I need them in my inventory?
It should say how many dragon souls you have in the bottom right corner of the screen. Have you actually killed dragons outside of the first one?
It happened once to me that the dragon I killed didn't "dissolve" and give me his soul. No you don't have to cast soul trap, they just "dissolve" and give you the soul.
