ST2 - Prussian Pangaea

I see it and will play tomorrow night. I have patched to play LK52 but can go back to 1.21 if I must. Let me know.

We had no deal with the Russians, glad to see that the English survived. Our rep. should be intact. :)
Self-researching may be an issue, because we are running out of brokering-partners.

I have two comps, so I should be ok going for 1.27.

As to another game, I would love to participate. ( As long as a smallish map is provided. Fairly certain world map in LK51 will suck quite a lot of my time real soonish now. )

Grimjack

I didn't get to the game for obvious reasons. For those of you that dont' know Connecticut and most of the North East US was without power yesterday for most of the night and my home in particular is still without power .

I will play tonight if the power comes back up.

Hotrod

It is headline news in Sweden at least. Weird with such a HUGE powerfailure.

ST2:

950 AD (0): Checking things out and press enter.

960 AD (1): Konigsberg builds hospital and begins temple that is short rushed. Stutgart builds woker starts another. Bonn ditto. We lost our dyes from the Arabs. Furs and Refining get us dyes back for 20 more turns. The 120 gpt deal with Lizzy if over. She will only give 27gpt for combustion but she may not be in the game for too much longer so why not take it while we can get it. I trade combustion to England for 27gpt and 20 gold. We have only 3 turns on our BM and IA and 8 on our palace. Joanie hasn't started ToE yet but hope she does soon so we can take a couple techs and grab ToE.

970 AD (2): Leipzig gets a temple and starts a cath. Hamburg police station - cath. Konigsberg temple - short rushed harbor. Only 2 turns on the prebuilds :(. More pollution cleanup.

980 AD (3): Konigsberg builds harbor starts university. Bremen a market starts a duct. This is interesting IA and BattMed each will complete next turn leaving a palace in Frankfurt with 6 turns remaining as the only prebuild. Joan hasn't started the ToE yet so it isn't worth it to steal electricity now. Looks like we are getting Bm and IA next turn :(.

990 AD (4): BattleField Med completed in Berlin :(. Start Colosseum. IA completed in Munich start Colosseum. Nuremburg builds hospital starts a courthouse that is short rushed.

1000 AD (5): Hamburg cath - university. Heidelburg hospital - police. Nuremburg courthouse - coal plant. With only 6 turns on the palace I safely steal electricity for 2300+ gold. Joanie still doesn't have ScieMethod but has gotten Rep Parts. Hurry the coal plant in Nuremburg. I hold Electricty rather than trade to Persia for salt. With tanks on the way we don't need cavs.

1010 AD (6): Berlin builds a colosseum starts rifle. Leipzig cath - stock. Munich Colosseum Police. Slow the palace. Start a harbor in Iron works city, irrigate Nuremburg, mines at berlin.

1020 AD (7): Paris has started ToE. Investigate and it is due in 9 turns. We have 4 turns left on research and can have 4 more turns of production out of Nuremburg before we start. It is producing 69 shields per turn it puts ToE in 9 turns. Just enough :D. I optimize Nuremburg to pull in 84 shields per turn. I check out the safe steal and it is 2400 gold. We are 3 turns away at -200gpt. I can buy it for incence, 74gpt and 550 gold. I decide to buy it an set research back to zero. Further MM Nuremburg to pull in ToE in 7 turns. Palace is slowed and is due in 8. Leave research at zero, we can trade AT, and Electronics to Joanie for Rep. and Flight.

1030 AD (8): Fight some polution. Joanie is moving infantry in our lands. ToE in 6, palace in 7.

1040 AD (9): Further optimize Nuremburg with mines etc. ToE in 4, palace in 5. Persia can finally pay something okay for Electricity trade electricity to Persia for Salt, 52gpt and 60 gold.

1050 AD (10): Joanie want to cancel our furs for wines and ivory deal but then will reup it for 7gpt instead of 12gpt.. Realize now my mistake in running with Rep. parts instead of AT. Swap to AT . After I decide not to turn research on I still had a scientist on it. Upgrade most of our knights and cats.

Nice turns. I think all this prebuild-management is one of the tougher parts of SGs compared to solo-games. Now we have to discuss our longterm strategy.
Do we finally :ar15: some butts ?

I want to drive Panzers, I want to

IA and BattMed each will complete next turn leaving a palace in Frankfurt with 6 turns remaining as the only prebuild.

I said what these prebuilds were supposed to do. If BM ran out as a prebuild in Berlin, swap it to the Intelligence Agency instead (to do something useful with the shields), and swap Munich instead to BM to keep another prebuild going in addition to Frankfurt's Palace. Looks like we'll get all the wonder we need anyway, so no sweat.

Long-term plans... well, Sirian did make some alterations to the space race tech tree, maybe we can go test that out instead? :)

We could :hammer: our main opponent France with Panzers and then go space. :D

EDIT - Whoops! I didn't read Hotrod's post closely enough and played out my turns on 1.21f. If this is a problem, let me know, and I'll replay them on the new patch. At least we now know that the 1.27f patch is back-compatible... ;)

1050 - Well, we can't start any offensive actions in the near future as we currently have 19 turns left on a deal with France (in my opinion, our most likely target). IBT, the French offer us an MPP and a ROP. We decline. Pollution strikes 2 cities, slowing down our TOE prebuild by 1 turn...

1060 - I crape the bottom of the barrel, but we come up with enough workers to clean up the pollution around Nuremburg (37 workers...).

1070 - We complete the TOE, and learn the secrets of Atomic Theory and Electronics. Swap Frankfurt to the Hoover Dam (due in 6 turns). Wow, Joanie thinks that AT (@2nd) is almost worth RP (@2nd). I decide to make the deal even though we won't really be able to resell it for as much as it is worth... RP from Joanie for AT and 125 gold. AT and 275 gold to Xerxes for Flight. Our rubber is beneath Nuremburg. IBT, England and Arabia sign a peace treaty.

1080 - Not much.

1090 - I am undecided about whether to trade Electronics for Mass Production... None of the other AIs have any money to offer.

1100 - Nothing much.

1110 - We complete Wall Street. The French being the Hoover Dam. I think they must have stolen it from us as they didn't have it when I checked the diplomacy screen and were offering over 150 gpt for it...

1120 - Send Xerxes Electronics for 63 gpt.

1130 - We complete the Hoover Dam.

1140 - Nothing much.

1150 - Nothing much.

Grimjack, it is time for Bonn and Stuttgart to become full-fledged fishing cities now. I have been rushing things like aqueducts, libraries, and courthouses in these cities. Please rush the courthouse in Stuttgart next turn, and start on a courthouse in Bonn next turn (to rush the next turn). Once they get those, and marketplaces (rushed of course. It's not like we don't have enough money... ;)), etc., you can worker-merge these cities up to size 12 (or higher if you rush hospitals...) they'll substantially boost our gpt.

We can't start a war with Joanie for another 9 turns. Alternatively, once Joanie's troops have left our territory (it'll probably take several turns...), we could try to plant a spy with her and then try a couple of immediate tech steals (preferably after we've made a coupld of big gpt deals with her...).

Here's the save: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/ST2PP1150AD.zip

Have fun!

In truth, I think we should just go for the space victory. None of the cities we'll take from France will become super-productive for us before the end of the game (well, we can probably make a couple of them fairly productive, but we certainly don't need them to win...). Also, France is the only country who is actually doing something (the other AIs, even Persia, are pathetic and have very little, to no, gpt available, and aren't researching anything useful...), so if we take a bunch of her cities from them, we'll just slow down the tech pace even more...

JMB

Dangit, Hotrod is right that Berlin couldn't have swapped to the IA without an intermediate swap. Doh. :)

JMB: I think they must have stolen it from us as they didn't have it when I checked the diplomacy screen and were offering over 150 gpt for it...

Hard to say. With the monopoly multiplier, prices are high... 3000 total (150 gpt) would indicate that they had only 1500 research to go; France just might be able to generate that in one turn. And they did get Electronics exactly 4 turns after we sold Atomic Theory. Can't say for sure whether they researched or stole it, though it doesn't really matter. (Did they have 1500+ in the treasury for a steal attempt?)

BTW, trading AT @monopoly for RP @monopoly and also getting Flight is a fine deal. :goodjob:

Yeah while I was playing I spent a bit of time looking at the BM IA swap and nothing worked. Thankfully Nuremburg only needed 3 turns for a coal plant and is pushing 100+ shields per turn. You gotta love the iron works.

Pollution is a problem but now with rubber our workers will be able to cleanup much faster.

As far as war I would build up an army of Panzers and hit England just to trip the GA. It has been a while since I have been in a game with a late era GA. It will boost our economy even more and I think we can push for space easily and checkout Sirian's tech changes.

Got it.

Grimjack

Hi all.

I only played 6 turns ( Or even 5 and a half. ) I think we have reached a point were game-breaking decisions could be made, and me being the newest deity player in, didn't feel comfortable with taking those decisions. I will instead leave game here for next player.
( Or if you would rather, we take a discussion on what to do next, and then I finish my turns. I would not want to go on by myself here though. )

ST2 1150AD. Finish building infra, and prepare troops for a possible war for next leader.
Playing version 1.27F

Hmm, after patching to 1.27, I seem to have lost my F1->F9 screens. Wonder briefly on how to solve this dilemma.

IBT: Berlin Art->Art, konigsberg Barracks->Infantry. ( Contained our scientist, otherwise would have skimmed a worker. ) Hamburg Infantry->infantry, Frankfurt Infantry->infantry, Munich Infantry->infantry, Nuremberg policestation->Cathedral Bremen Factory->Bank, Bonn Granary->Courthouse

1160AD I fortify our artillery in Berlin. Rush Courthouse in Stuttgardt. Deal with pollution. Ahhh, I have recovered the use of my F1->F9 woot. Was afraid something subtle had gone wrong. Notice something funny on the F4 screenie. The dead civs are registered as unmet civs :)
Joan of France wants 2710 gold for Mass-Production. Having 24 turns left on our Radio scientist, and at least 8 turns before we are supposed to go to war, I will wait, and see if they gift it to the arabs or english, thus lowering the price somewhat.
Persia however, would probably demand our extra incense, so I give him incense for a 400 gold rebate on Mass production. Mass Production from Persia for Incense and 2100 gold.
France has a monopoly on Amphibious warfare :) Great tack of line for researching Joan. You could chose between Tanks and Marines on this small pangea.
Persia is in democracy, and will likely be very very powerful shortly with all those cities getting productive.

IBT: Lose supply of dyes, renegotiate to get dyes for Replaceable parts. ( If we are not going for conquest, we are better off if they can defend themselves. Loads of french infantry marching across our countryside admiring our blank raillines.
Lots of troops produced, of note: Hannover Stock exchange -> Temple, Stuttgardt Courthouse->Market.

1170 Switch larger coastal cities from troops to Commercial docks. Rush Bank in Heidelberg, Courthouse in Bonn. This turn, France has a monopoly on Radio. Persia has spent some 1700 gold on rushes, since he does not have Radio. Persia also has less than 10 gpt income, so I wonder if he is the one feeding Joan for researching.
I will see if we can steal Radio later, after I buy Motorized transport from joanie.

IBT: Heidelberg Bank->Commercial dock. ( Wonder which is best, stock exchange or commercial dock. ) Nuremberg Commercial->Cathedral Bonn Courthouse->Market.

1180 Rush market in Stuttgardt. Deal with pollution. Ponder starting a UN prebuild, but Munich will easily push 100 spt, and finish Palace in 5-6 turns. This is of course good if we could be certain our free tech would be Fission. Since we are not, I will build a couple more infantry out of it.
Could get a little money out of England for Furs, but I do not trust them to stick around for 20 more turns.

IBT: konigsberg Cathedral -> Commercial dock, Hannover Temple->Courthouse, Stuttgart Market->Bank,

1190 pop Stuttgart to 12. Rush Market in Bonn, and Docks in Heidelberg. Persia is now broke again. Wonder where he puts all his money. Deal with pollution.

IBT: Heidelberg Docks->Exchange, Nuremberg Cathedral->Artillery,Bonn Market->Bank,

1200 Note it takes 16 workers to clear pollution from a mountain tile. Exciting, isn't it :)
Poprush Bonn. Spend some more workers poprushing Konigsberg. We now have 16 workers in one pack, and 10 workers+4 foreign exchange students in another pack. This may be overkill for pollution control, but I will leave it up to next leader.
Rush Bank in Stuttgart.
IBT: Set Hamburg on Battleship diet. Reasoning being that we would need at least one ship in order to kill off any marauding bombarders that we artillery down. Stuttgart Bank->Docks,

1210 Temptation get the better of me, and I merge in two workers to Hannover to get 60 spt and shave a turn off of the policestation.Rush Stock exchange in Heidelberg, and Bank in Bonn.
Note that joannie has joined the army now. It is time to start doing something.
She wants 6300 gold for Motorized. A tad bit expensive. She has 11 infantry travelling in our lands.
Safe steal is 2600 gold....

This is also my window for max opportunity on getting the most out of our free tech, since the possibility exists that she could research the same one we got. Crossing my fingers, I go for a safe steal by our diplomats.

We now know Motorized transportation. :) This leads me to switch production in several key cities

Do quite a lot of redecorating in our cities to get them to magic borders. Will need to prune a worker out of Frankfurt, as I try to get Berlin to 100 spt. Will be possible next turn probably.

So, time to buy Radio. I expect to get the money spent buying radio back with our free tech, so I do not chance a war now with only three turns left on our existing deals.

Hmm, for some reason Radio is much more expensive than Motorized. Joannie wants 244gpt and 4500 gold for it. I had hoped for a cash transaction. That would tie us up in a large deal, even if I got our money back from Radio.

I will actually hand over leadership here, instead of taking all of my turns. I think this is an interesting turnpoint, but rather than blow the game on making a :smoke: decision, I will put the game up for next player, also letting you old foxes let me learn how to handle situation.
My guts tell me to go for another steal, but I also feel that two steals in one turn is pressing the luck hugely.
We have artilleries in Berlin and a few in Nuremberg. Infantry are spread out, as is a lot of workers due to the optimizations made.
Still think best move is to get Radio. Only question is of means.
Perhaps wait for one turn, so we have time to prepare for war. I have spread out to cover our workers that made mines/irrigated to reach thresholds in cities.

Save: Here

Grimjack

I haven't looked at the save yet, but that price sounds like France has a monopoly on Radio, meaning the purchase price is doubled. Definitely don't pay that.

Do we need Radio right now for some reason? If so, steal it. But I don't think we do. So why not just research it ourselves? We've got libraries and universities everywhere.
