ST2 - Prussian Pangaea

You do not think France who had Nationalism has started research on Communism?
AIs seem to be very fond of government techs.

Electricity/Sanitation seems like techs more easy to get monopolies on.
I am mostkly curious, as I do not have much experience in deity games.

Grimjack

I'm not aiming for a monopoly with minimum research. I was just trying to put the scientist on something useful.

Every one of the currently available techs will probably be researched by some AI within 32 turns. These AIs all have high productivity, large cores (I should not have set 40% land for this game - tech is going way too fast and we've had no opportunity for warring). France just researched Nationalism from scratch in no more than 5 turns. Electricity, Industralization, Communism, and Sanitation will all be no more than 6-7 turn researches if France, England, or Persia wants to do so.

All the techs are going to show up in rapid succession anyway, so we may as well put our lone scientist on the one that we can afford to wait 32 turns for even if the AIs get it sooner.

If we wanted to go for a monopoly, we could swap to max research ourselves, probably on Sanitation. This may indeed be worthwhile - we're scientific and do have several libraries in place. Hotrod can make this decision if he wants.

ST2:

450 AD (0); Furs to France for 13gpt and 166 gold. We don't have salt but there is one under that darn English town. I decide to leave it on Communism. It is valueable to the AI and should get us some techs and or gold when the time comes to trade.

460 AD (1): Berlin builds a cat starts a rifle. Frankfurt builds a worker start another. Bonn builds a library starts a harbor. Roading the coal. Incence or 300 gold I opt for incence, to Persia for two workers Persian and Russian.

470 AD (2): Frankfurt builds a worker starts a rifle. Heidleburg builds a market starts a bank.

480 AD (3): Bremen builds a worker starts an other. Nothing else.

490 AD (4): Iron is online change Newtons to Iron Works. Start some rails but will try to get a coordinated effort in place with 6 man stacks. Why ofcourse Joanie picks up Communism :(.

500 aD (5): Berlin builds a rifle starts a cat then will peal a worker.

510 AD (6): Berlin builds cat starts worker. Leipzig builds bank starts worker. Munich builds bank short rush a barracks for 80 gold.

520 aD (7): Arabs must've just gotten Nationalism. They come calling asking for MPP and ROP :lol:. No scratch that they don't have it. Because we do they get to ask. Never realized that before. Berlin builds worker starts rifle. Leipzig builds worker starts Library to maybe get some culture there. Munich builds barracks starts rifle. Nothing new on the tech front.

530 AD (8); Working on the railroad.

540 AD (9): Frankfurt builds rifle starts worker. Bremen builds worker starts another. France completed Magellens. Hurry library in Liepzig for 56 gold.

550 AD (10): Leipzig builds library starts university as a Factory prebuild, provided we get industrialization soon. Frankfurt builds a worker starts a rifle. Joanie just picked up Industrialization. I didn't make the deal and will leave it up to JMB. We have 21 turns on Communism, 3570 gold making +378gpt. :D. We are up to 28 workers, 2 slaves, a wopping 3 rifles a few pikes a few knights. 9 turns remain on a bunch of deals. A safe steal will only cost us 1900+ gold. To buy from France first offer was 3000+ gold and 111gpt. I didn't haggle. I would recommend a safe steal soonish.

0 - Wow, we still have a lot of tiles to improve... Nothing to do... IBT, the French begin Sufferage.

560 - Nothing much. IBT, France and Persia sign a MPP. The French complete Newton's.

570 - Upgrade 7 spearmen/pikemen to riflemen.

580 - Upgrade a few more troops.

590 - Nothing much.

600- Not much. IBT, Arabia and Persia sign a military alliance against Russia.

610 - IBT, Persia and Arabia sign a MPP.

620 - Not much. IBT, the English begin Sufferage.

630 - Ok, only Russia and the Arabs don't have Industrialization, so it's time to purchase it... I don't want to deal with France anymore as she is clearly the leader (even though she is almost always the cheapest...) Industrialization from Persia for our WM and 125 gpt. Swap a bunch of cities to factories.

640 - Incense and 12 gpt to France for Wines and Ivory. Joanie now has a monopoly on the Corporation.

650 - Nothing much.

Persia must have bought the Corporation at 2nd last turn... We could purchase it from Xerxes this turn (we have lots of gold...), but I suggest we wait until another tech has been researched (perhaps stealing the tech from whomever researches a new one first... We now have enough modern troops to hold off any assault she mounts... If she does declare, let her troops attack first as she has a MPP with Persia and I believe attacking her first would cause Persia to declare war on us as well (of course, this would get us out of our gpt payments to Persia...)).

The only other techs out there are Communism (which we'll get for free in 11 turns) and Democracy (which we could purchase from Russia (for MT and Physics) at any time...) In fact, seeings as Russia is beginning to fold (due to her war with Persia), we might want to make this trade (also giving her Magnetism and TOG) now and hope that she draws Nationalism as her free tech (to keep her in the game and prevent Persia from becoming a 500 lb gorilla. If she doesn't draw Nationalism, we could always give it to her...). Then again, right now she is just making techs more expensive for us and there is no guarantee that she'd survive anyways...

I think Grimjack is up...

JMB

Yes, Grimjack is up with Belisar on deck.

Don't steal another tech unless we can parley it into a brokerage, but that may well happen. And only steal from someone that holds a monopoly; if two civs have a tech it's cheaper to buy.

And dangit, I'm gonna feel stupid for putting the scientist on Communism if 11 more turns go by and nobody gets Sanitation :crazyeye:

If we want to keep Russia in the game, we will have to make Nationalism available for her immediately, because Persia already IS the 500 lb gorilla (maybe rather 800 than 500 :rolleyes: )
Another point: Do we prepare for a war against the French as soon as we get artillery?
With all that jungle I fear the English will have tons of rubber. France has no rails and we could use a second core...
Even only taking these first-ring cities would be nice.

Got it.

I do nto think I can manage to squeeze in the turns tonight, but I expect to post within 24 hours.

Grimjack

Been a while since last screenie, so here is another one.

ST2_650AD.jpg

Main task this time around, railroad and build up industry, perhaps even prepare for ToE, but mainly rail and industrialize
We are behind Democracy,Communism and Corporation. We have a milnet of rails, now it is optimisation time for the cities.
I rush the granary in Stuttgart. It will never finish on its own,
Rush granary in Bremen as well. Bremen might even be good at pumping workers.
Do not rush factory as I think I can use the money for buying tech later.
Give Russia MilTrad and Physics for Democracy. Further gift Russia into Modern age, and she gets Nationalism. Lets hope she will be a bit better roadbump on Persia now.
Did not want to sign any deals dealing with resources, as I am not sure she will last 20 turns.

IBT: Bremen Granary->Worker Stuttgart, Granary->Worker

660Ad Move workers, no new deals sighted

670AD More of the same

IBT: Bad news for Russia, France joins the dogpile. Starting to think a bit about poaching.

680 AD MOst likely Persia bought France for Espionage. Hmm, nope. France has a monopoly. Too expensive right now, I am fairly certain I cannot get a 2fer with Corporation.
On second thought, If I cannot buy a 2fer with espionage, I could at least get me some spies.
Buy Espionage for 2600 gold from France.
Buy Corporation from England for Espionage, Incense and 450 gold.
Sell Espionage to Persia for all his gold and income. 80 gold and 26 gpt.

IBT: Bremen Worker->Worker

690Ad Workers move.
France now has refining.

700AD Workers

IBT As russia is reeling from the heavy blows, Persia goes to peace with them. Persia starts Universal Suffrage as a memorial.

710AD More workers move.

IBT: Berlin Factory -> Coal plant Frankfurt Factory -> Coal plant, Munich Factory->Worker. Bremen Worker->worker

720AD France now has Sanitation, but there still is no way to make a 2fer. Sanitation is good tech however, but I can wait for coal plants to complete before building hospitals.

IBT: France wants alliance versus russians. Tell her no thanks.
Hamburg Factory->worker , Munich worker->Stock exchange
Medina completes Shakespeares theatre

730AD JOan has shared Sanitation with the english. France is still ticklish about revealing the secrets of refining. A mysterious diplomatic poach containing muchos dough changes hands, and:
ST2_730AD.jpg

( France had a LOT of workers inside our territory, and most of their forces were away in Russia. Felt certain I could buy in Persia and/or England on our side. )
Make a straight deal with Lizzy for Sanitation, since she is completely broke.
Arabia must have made some kind of deal, since they no longer need industrialization.
Sell Medicine to Russia for 80 gold and 21 gpt. We have oil near Bremen.
Change coal plants to hospitals. This is vetoable by next player, since they will not be finished until next players turn.

IBT:Hamburg worker->Hospital

740AD Movement

IBT: Bremen Worker->Worker

750AD: I know we are starting to get light on military, but I prioritized getting necessary infra in place asap, letting us get some production capability.
ENgland is starting to slide behind, and France is away warring in Russia. It is high time to start pumping military as long as it doesn't hinder our ability to get ToE.

Save: Here

Grimjack

Ok, looking good. Got it and will probably play today, evening.
Oil near Bremen? I wonder why the AI didn't settle there in BC, the French had 2 settler pairs in the region :hmm:

EDIT: Things get interesting (only the preturn)
A new dogpile against the English, initialized by Xerxes (and MPPs with France/Arabs)
I hope Liz isn't crushed too fast because we have a 12-turn deal with her :rolleyes:

Preturn: No major adjustements necessary, just switched Frankfurt to coal plant.

IT: Dogpile on Liz. Persia, France and the Arabs.
I already mentioned our ongoing deal with the English, 12 turns remaining.

760: Berlin:
We get Communism (turned out to be the ideal research target)
Berlin: hospital -> coal plant
Frankfurt: coal plant:-> hospital
Nuremberg completes IW :D -> aqueduct
Stuttgart: worker -> worker
Bonn: harbour -> courthouse

I sell Communism to the Arabs for our 7th lux, dyes and all their cash (not much)
Also sell it to Russia for worker and a few gold.
France just got Steel, but they don't want to sell it.
So we just steal it :D

st2-01.jpg

Unfortunately, Persia and the Arabs have nothing to offer for Refining or Steel.
The only possibility is England. It is a hard decision. If we sell Stell for her
gpt, she might not be able to rush enough units to defend herself.
I go for the deal; Steel for 120 gpt and some cash, maybe not the best decision.
She also wants our 2nd Iron, but if she doesn't survive 20 turns our reputation
will be ruined, so I don't sell it.
We are at tech parity with leader France and England and up Refining and Steel to both
Arabs and Persians. Russia is way behind and won't survive long (down to 5 small cities).
The Arabs are also behind Corporation.

770: A lot of worker assignements. Our Income is 326 gpt (a plus of +54 from other civs)
The English already lost Norwich to the French.

IT: Russia and England sign a MPP. Russia declares war on Persia.

780: Munich: Hospital -> Coal plant
Bremen: worker -> worker
I buy a few English workers, we can use them and Liz can use the cash.

IT: The French attack Warrwick, but lose two cavs.

790: I sell the Corporation to the backward Arabs for only 12 gpt and and all their
cash. Better to get some gold than let the broke Persians make the deal.

800: Berlin: coal plant -> Stock
Leipzig: factory: hospital, a little late but I wanted to complete the factory
Hamburg: hospital -> rax
Nuremberg: aqueduct -> marketplace
Hannover: bank -> rax
We want to build some vet troops soon.
The Persians extort Refining, I give in. :(
The Persians also complete Suffrage.

IT: The Arabs lose a cav at Warwick
Until now, the French have taken Dover, Nottingham and Reading.
The Persians Liverpool, Coventry, Newcastle and Hastings.

810: Konigsberg: Factory -> Police station (medium corrupted)
Heidelburg: factory -> Bank
Frankfurt: Coal plant -> Stock Ex. (our first! ToE prebuild)
If Electricity doesn't show up in time, I will build the Stock and start another prebuild
in Munich. This way, we will have 'alternate' prebuilds every few turns.

Hamburg builds rax and starts on Rifles to build up our army
(Infantry upgrade may come soon).
Heidelburg: Factory -> bank

820: Arabia and Russia sign a peace treaty. The Arabs capture Warwick
and the English want a MPP ;)
The English are down to 3 core cities.
France got Combustion. Since she is at war with both Russia and England, I steal it :D

st2-02.jpg

Persia still has nothing for Steel and Arabia nothing to offer for Refining or Steel. :(

830: Hannover finishes rax, -> Rifles
Munich: Coal plant -> Stock Ex. (2nd Toe prebuild)

840: Berlin: Stock -> Intelligence Agency (the 3rd ToE prebuild)
Nuremberg: Marketplace -> granary (needs also a rax to build troops)
After the granary finishes in 2 turns, we can max food.
France has a worker for sale.
For the first time, Persia has gpt availabe for Steel, but only 27.
I leave it for T-Hawk to decide if we wait, but there is the possibility that
he extorts it with a peace treaty from England or buys it from France.

Because I didn't know if France is already researching Electricity, we actually have
3 ToE prebuild-possibilities (Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich). All three could finish their
current project if it takes longer to get Sci.M.
I'm sure T-Hawk gets the meaning (The 3 cities have a different amounts of shields in the box
and could be set to a palace (or the IA in the case of Berlin) at the right time.
France should get the next tech in 1-2 turns, so we could set Frankfurt,
where the Stock.Ex. will be completed next turn, to our main prebuild.
Our income is 513 gpt (a deal expired), so I believe that we will have no problems on the tech front.
We could, for example, rush the aqueduct in Bremen.
All these troops in our northern lands are heading for Brighton, bets how long
the English will survive are taken (hopefully 4 more turns, then our lux deal ends).

Good luck, Belisar

OK. I see it, not sure if I can play tonight but can tomorrow. Don't worry, I know how to manage prebuilds. :)

Well, testing out the militaristic aspects of Sirian's modded rules turned out to be a dud here. 40% land was too much. Would any of this team's roster be interested in starting up another game with the Tweak rules? Standard map / 20% land, which should slow down the tech pace quite a bit as compared to this one and get us into some wars. Civ could be Germany again or another militaristic.

I would be interested but would like to see this game get close to finishing before starting.

T-Hawk: are you patching to 1.27 for this game?

@T-Hawk: I'm always up for a game with plenty of :hammer: :D
If we don't play on a large map, I would be interested.

I'd be interested in another game, but don't think I'll be able to play as I'll be away (work and vacation) from around the 24th until October 3rd... (I am assuming that we are going to finish this game rather than just let it lapse, right? (I'm ok one way or the other...)

JMB

Inherited turn -

Cancel Furs deal with Persia and now he has 2gpt more to pay for Steel; I take the 43 + 29gpt. It's half or so of market value which is good enough for me. Also make a new deal with France paying one lux + 11/turn for two lux.

Some build orders changed to universities; we will probably want to do our own research soon, before the industrial age is over. No real need to prebuild ToE before Electricity has even shown up.

==========

Some peace broke out. Persia destroyed Russia in 880 AD; I wasn't sure if we were exporting anything to them but our reputation appears intact.

France, not Persia, is the big dog now. Joanie grabbed monopolies on Flight and Electricity halfway through my turns and might even have another tech beyond that by now. However, be patient if you think about stealing. England and Persia have had nothing to broker for, and we do not need Electricity or Flight immediately. Electricity is 13 turns away at minimum so go for that. If France starts ToE within the next 10 turns, however, we'll have to steal both techs (safely only, please) to build it ourselves.

Berlin's on a ToE prebuild using Battlefield Medicine just in case; if that runs out, have it complete the Intelligence Agency and swap Munich to BM to prebuild. Frankfurt is on the Palace as a Hoover prebuild; slow it if it comes close to completion before we get ToE.

When worker labor is available, get mining to Berlin, Munich, and Leipzig to level them off at appropriate sizes. I do NOT want to see these cities at size 22 the next time it comes around to me. :whipped: :lol: Munich is already too big as it should be ceding tiles to the Iron Works in Nuremburg.
