State of the Union

That's what makes it a great move: whatever Trump proposes the democrats will oppose. Meaning they alienate a sizeable portion of their one base if it looks live Trump is proposing some kind of M4A/universal healthcare. This is already an issue splitting the democrats. While even among the republicans more people admit that the current private insurance "market" is a failure. I don't know how it'd net out but if Trump is losing in the campaign, this move can at the very least overturn the tables and make all other issues secondary: won't make his situation worse and may make it much better.
The only opponent it won't work against is Sanders because he's all for it anyway and would have no problem in advancing a M4A even with Trump while fighting him on other issues. The other potential candidates do not want to change the healthcare situation despite saying they do.

Hmm, still does not seem very effective. Plans aren't compelling. He could get votes on dismantling Obamacare in 2016 since it was bad legislation, but people are divided and confused as to how to proceed from there. The Democrats may reflexively oppose him on everything, but this all-out bid for the minority voting blocs is a much more effective way to exploit the behavior pattern than a health care position. It would be a simple task for the media to carry the Democrats on HC; they can trumpet the Democrats' plan and poo-poo the Republicans, very conventional, every-day work.

But Trump has the House majority on film now, just sitting there glumly as their voters are escaping the plantation. Sullen silence as he reels off the numbers and exclaims that people are getting themselves off welfare. What the 'progressives' have done to blacks for the last 50 years is just hideous. Themes of domination and betrayal make for good TV. He is going to try to duplicate that in other contexts.

By the way, I have no crystal ball, but it seems probable that the Supreme Court will dominate the late stage of the election for one reason or another. It drove a lot of turnout in the previous election, too.

I'm hoping for stroke in August or September.

I caught a couple minutes of it just when I turned my tv on cus it had been left on fox from super bowl. Haven't you guys ever watched a state of the union speech before? They're all just a bunch of grandstanding and bloviating. Trump's wasn't really any better or worse in that regard, but when he discussed Iran and used very four times in one sentence I was like I can't watch someone this inept at public speaking anymore. He literally said, thanks to our sanctions their economy is doing, very, very bad, and with out help it could be doing very, very good. It was also super annoying how the whole republican side stood and clapped after every sentence and the dems crossed their arms and tried to look grumpy. Regardless of stances one could at least appreciate that Obama was a fantastic orator and while Bush misspoke often he had a genuineness to the way he talked while Trump looks like a smug ahole.

But all in all not really much to see.

I agree with this because its likely that this ******** Court will give us a Dred Scott (5-4 instead of 7-2 but still) like ruling leading us almost directly to civil conflict.

If Trump loses the election and decides to stay put, I expect the Court to rule in his favor. At the very least, they will not expedite the process and give Trump a chance to consolidate his grip on power before issuing a ruling.

I don't think Trump is going to leave office, one way or another and it scares me something fierce.

I have a house for rent in Belize.

I'd rather hope that California goes its own way if Trump seizes power illegally. I don't want to move again, I've had enough of bouncing around my whole life.

At least we learned who the real president of Venezuela is.
I have to wonder if Trump is trying to keep Maduro in power. Surely someone in the Administration knows that the kiss of death in South America is to be perceived as an American stooge.

Sometimes all there is to do is laugh and hope the GOP just dies out.

I was referring not to the possibility of a particular decision but to the possibility of a particular vacancy on the bench. I am not sure what type of necromancy is being employed to keep the bench full and really have no idea how long it will remain effective, but it's probably best that it linger through at least to December.

this opinion was la vogue in 2003

Probably all of them. All of them are philanthropists, spokespeople for human rights, and supporters of various good causes in addition to being entertainers. Limbaugh, on the other hand, is the grandfather of propaganda entertainment disguised as news, has openly advocated with statements that would get me banned from this forum if I repeated them here, and has basically exemplified the absolute worst in humanity throughout his career in entertainment.

Prefer Trump alzhimers to be put on full display during press conferance
Then we can watch Republican mental Gynmestic

But you notice that he doesn't really do press conferences any more. And no more press briefing either.

What protests? There were no Democratic protests to gavel out. There were only GOP cheers as the speech ended. :dubious:

She just quietly stood up and, with dignity, shredded Trump's pack of lies. Pense, standing next to Pelosi, was unaware of her actions until told about them later. She did not stand up and, in the finest GOP tradition, bellow out "You lie!" in the middle of the speech. :shake:

I dont know, I was watching South Park reruns. I was quoting Turley but forgot the quote marks. Dignity? You're talking about someone who was informed of Bush's torture program and did nothing and when the Dems took the Congress in 2006 she protected the war criminals. Thats why Bush and his cronies got away with torture, she covered for them. Course she couldn't actually start an impeachment inquiry because the Bush crowd would point out how they told her years earlier and she apparently didn't object.

Imagine that, she protected war criminals from impeachment and instead impeached Trump for trying to investigate corrupt Democrats and Ukrainian interference in our election. Hypocrisy is not dignified.
