I created some custom tech art and am having minor problems with it.

When I hover the cursor over certain tech boxes, it will momentarily cut a swath out of neighboring boxes or borders. Below is a picture of what I'm talking about.

Looks to me to be a pallette issue. the background colour on the techbox .pcx file is probably not one of the last two colours in the pallette (or first two, depending on which program you use)

Drat, I was hoping no one was going to say that. Oh well, I'll have to check it out. :(

Thanks LizardmenRule. :)

if you are not pallet savvy, you can upload it and I will take a look...

what program are you using?

Many thanks Spacer One. I'm going to try my hand at using Paint Shop Pro 3.12 for the task and see if I can fix the problem. I really need to familiarize myself with palettes more anyway. If I start pulling my hair out I'll take you up on your generous offer.

Originally I converted the original PCX file in the game to a BMP file using Image Converter, edited it with MS Paint and then converted it back into PCX. There's no setting in Image Converter for palettes so I didn't do any palette adjusting.

Thats the problem right there you never re-indexed the image using the Civ palette.

Check the Magenta Colors used and their index...the 218, 0, 218 magenta shade (used for Frame Lines) as well as the 255, 0 255 pure magenta shade for the background. Those two shades appear the same to the eye but your situation is probably due to undexing of shades on the palette.
I can check your file if you want to send it to me.

Thanks Vuldacon! I'll e-mail the file to you.

I tried Paint Shop Pro 3.12 but couldn't seem to get the thing to work for me the way I wanted there either so I gave up.

Gary Childress... OK Gary...I received the files and corrected the Palette. It was lacking the Frame Lines that are Colored 218, 0, 218 magenta shade in the "Normal" techbox game palette as well as the other colors. Those colors are indexed for game use. I sent you a couple of files you can use to see the Lines on your techbox file as well as a techbox file with only the Frame Lines that you can make new techboxes with. I tried to explain some procedures so you can gain a better understanding for future work. Hope it helps :)
