The Drunk and After the Party thread and stuff.. 1

I threw up on my partner's floor the other week. I'm too old for hard liquor drinks that taste like anything other than hard liquor.

Nah, it sounds like it still works just fine. What you might be too old for is the predictable result of said beverages! =D

It's true though, isn't it? That some cocktails are so over-sweetened or adulterated with other flavours that a person can not realize how much alcohol they're actually consuming? All those alcopops are designed to deceive the adoloscent palate.

But if you stick to straight whiskey and/or brandy you'll not suffer from this effect.

Actually, I can't take spirits at all these days. It's like drinking petrol, imo.

Well, I always figured that was rather the point. That one didn't know how much alcohol they were consuming. Isn't that why they're typically served to women? Sprite mixed with a bottle of sweet Two Buck Chuck works similarly.

More on topic, I do like me a long island ice tea every now and then or a white russian when I'm in the mood for lighter fluid that tastes like candy instead of my usual lysol that tastes like lysol, I mean gin.

I see. So alcopops are the designer-legal date rape drug, you're saying?

Yeah I was default-assuming one drink per glass because I couldn't taste what was there. Didn't think about it consciously because I'm used to just knowing by the taste.

Definitely more than a little buzzed. Was out with Owen Glyndwr and a friend of mine and talked about cfc style stuff. After getting beers at one bar we end up at the destination bar and the moment the bartender comes up we're immediately:
Owen: I'll get a jack and coke
Hygro's Homey: I'll get a seven and seven
Me: I'll get a gin and soda

Always have a drink to order. You make the group look good.

My go to drink at home is vodka on the rocks.. non-melting rocks. But bars tend to stock vodka I don't like, and the good stuff is usually overpriced to hell, so when I'm out and about I tend to drink beer. Mind you, I do have a soft spot for a Tom Collins. That's my resort go-to drink, because it's so refreshing and goes down easy. Like vodka on the rocks.

I really wish drinking made me happy the way it seems to make other people happy. It just makes me depressed as hell, so personally I don't drink. I can't even drink a single beer anymore, which is a shame, since I really enjoyed beer. Ironically, when I was a teenager and couldn't legally drink is when I enjoyed it the most.

Get a Shirley Temple. Have no shame and you'll rock it.

it ended up being a vodka and ginger ale for him.

I stopped doing G&Ts because tonic's too sweat for me these days

shadowplay, alcohol is a depressant. The more you drink it, the more you are likely to get the sads.
But he doesn't drink at all.
I never get depressed when drinking. I can of course become sad, but even then it is a sorta good because excited and engaged sadness rather than a crushing and energy-sucking sadness. It just affects different people differently, IMO. I knew a girl who couldn't handle it at all. Her body just couldn't metabolize it right or something. Some, it seems especially quit matured people get kinda dulled and then quickly sleepy. Some get very excited and usually happy. By mother is that type and so am I. Though there were times when I was very frustrated deep inside and then alcohol didn't make me depressed but angry and mean.
However, when I get drunk good the next day can sometimes put me in a intensively gloomy mood. Really hate that. Almost like I used up all the happiness and excitement I got in a frenzy and my feel-good-batteries are so exhausted afterwards that they are empty for a day.

It is strange how much it can vary. There are times when I drink a single half-liter beer and get in a really good buzz. And there are times when I barely feel anything except sleepy. Though beer also is the most potent alcoholic beverage for sleepiness I am told.

Tried a Bananaweizen last night.

I prefer other Weizens.

He says it "makes him depressed as hell", so I assume that means it makes him depressed when he drinks, which is why he doesn't drink.
And as the reason for this you suggested the amount he drinks, which apparently not be the reason. Rather, it may just be that this is how his body / brain chemistry reacts to alcohol.
Like a friend of mine reacts differently to THC. He can for the life of his not get high.

Yeah, who knows, but alcohol is a depressant, so.. most people's bodies will react to it in a predictable way, in that context.

I mean, if I had read: "I can't snort cocaine, it makes me happy" I would suggest it might very well be because cocaine is an upper.
