What Movies Have You Watched? 17: Blowed Up Real Good

Seeing as we're still on page 1 (whassamtter, no-one watching any movies lately!?), thanks for the title and video @Ajidica: I always wondered where Roger Ebert got that phrase (it wasn't exactly his style, so I figured he was quoting someone!), and now I know.

Family movie tonight was Love and Monsters, which was surprisingly better than I'd expected. Nice to see Jessica Henwick's still getting stuff to do after Iron Fist, and a couple of other vaguely familiar faces popped up as well.

Well, that means you got some story-telling to do, no?

I also watched that today, and it's indeed quite nice. I like the setting.

Earlier I also watched Not A Game, a documentary about games, gaming addiction, etc. Quite messy, not clear golden thread in there, stopped it after it was half done.

first of Kill Bill movies . Now over the years ı would watch sections and surf away . This time almost unbroken from the moment Thurman wakes up in hospital , to Hattori Hanzo sections , to the katana fight in the nightclub ; must be almost the whole movie ? There is obvious unrealism in her killing the hospital orderly , taking his car keys and spending 13 hours wiggling the toes ... People would surely check on the car and ı don't think she had lost the wheelchair ...

uh , really , get a personal forcefield and you will walk through dozens of katanas ...

Kind of a ho-hum trailer. I'm still looking forward to the movie, though. It looks like it does some of what I wanted Iron Fist to do*. Disney should hire whoever does the trailers for Warner Bros' DCEU movies.

* I heard a podcast a few years ago about a Chinese-American guy, went to China and everybody there just saw him as American, but in America, everybody saw him as Chinese. I thought it was fascinating. So if I'd written Iron Fist, I would have made Danny Rand Asian-American. Gets aggravated with the US, goes to Asia to find his roots. Play up the "stranger in a strange land" thing, feels unsettled everywhere he goes, too American for Asia, too Asian for America. He ends up in K'un-L'un - training sequences; the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven; Shou Lao the Undying - then he comes home to New York, finds trouble, let the superhero shenanigans begin. (Unfortunately, this was all around the same time as Doctor Strange. I'm not sure how I'd differentiate the two.) Danny meets Madame Gao from the first season of Daredevil, is running roughshod over New York's underworld. Remember the blinded people enslaved in Gao's drug lab? Daredevil never really hit that in the face, so Iron Fist would. Gao would turn out to be Crane Mother, bring in Steel Serpent. Play up the supernatural aspects of Danny's powers. Give him just a touch of super-speed. Not like Quicksilver and The Flash, not that kind of super-speed; more like, "What if Jet Li got the Super-Soldier serum? How fast would that guy's hands be?" Anyway...

9th Company , a war movie with the whole set of cliches . Though well liked , breaking ticket sale records and a stamp of approval by Putin it has developed its set of detractors . ı know because ı think ı was reading some Osprey book and it refers to the movie and it has issues with reality ... ı would otherwise let it go , but had to google the thing . So , (like fully typical of movie industry everywhere) an historically true movie is when you take a firepower victory in 1988 to 1989 where there are so few survivors after hand to hand combat and uhm , yes , they were also forgotten in some hilltop until their transportion home arrived by coincidence .

Aspirante vedovo (Aspiring Widower, 2013). More of that thing Sommerswerd should know about, called Italian cinema.

Kill Bill movies are not about the realism. Just immerse yourself in them and watch from beginning to end.

"Lost in Beijing" Early Fan Bing Bing (2007) Chinese with English subtitles. 7.5/10

as a troll who mocks poor little countries like Americans who can't afford or even invent forcefields , let alone using them in personal vendattas , ı reject the allegations of , uhm , let me find something to write here , later .

"Kill Bill" Franchise has a little killer whistle to it ! ^^

The Trial of the Chicago 7 - It's an Aaron Sorkin movie which has all the usual trademarks of witty banter, interesting characters, and subject matter that is topical despite being set over 50 years ago. If you've ever seen The Social Network or Steve Jobs it's the same sort of style.

Midnight Special - This movie is bonkers. It's about a kid with supernatural abilities so naturally he has the government after him because they think he's a threat to national security and he has a cult after him because they thing he's some sort of messiah while his parents are just trying to protect him.

Kill Bill was the movie that made me stop being a Tarantino fan.

What has happened in those "Kill Bill" movies that made You stop liking them ? BTW. Hello again Hobby ! I am super glad to see You ! I hope Your rocket is as high as ever ! xD (funny wishes xD.... but true ! May Your rocket - well You know the rest ! It's so great to see You ^^ ) Hold on ! I only have 15' inches screen ! I cannot see the "entry so HUGE ! " xD

I am not a fan of over the top ultragore, and the writing was typical Tarantino - 'What cool quotes can I get 16 year old guys to quote verbatim to each other?'.

Honestly it's 90% the writing that turns me off. I'm not a total hater - I'm quite fond of Django and I like both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction - but I couldn't even watch more than the first 10 minutes of Inglorious Basterds because of the stupid Nazi milk monologue right at the beginning. Watching both Kill Bill volumes felt like a chore, and the car chase movie would have been great except for the random monologuing with all the catchy cool quotable soundbites.

What about Planet Terror? Technically not a Tarantino film but it has Tarantino in it.

Isn't he in all his movies?

That one was in the double feature with the car chase movie, I remember liking it less than the car chase movie lol. Death Race? Was that the name

Honestly I hate "Inglorious Bastards" - just for the sheer un-realism of it - it's like American imagination of the sheer horror of the ww2 - it's like takeing a nerd librarian kind of guy talk about how he pick up girls - if You catch what I mean - he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about - so was Tarantino with inglorious bastards. (I've also dicovered the word "sheer" and because I like it I try to use it as often as I can xD) So kids, do not watch it as a point of referance, just watch it because You can't. Not really stick though , You'll be far better of sticking to a girl after watching it , but if You take a girl to a movie, better pick better one .... hmmm or worse , pick one - best choice : something romantic - so that the girls sticks to You instead of running for the hills - in other words - Inglorious Bastards is not movie You want to take Your date along ;) 4/10

Planet Terror had the preview for Machete.
It was supposed to be a spoof trailer but there was enough interest to make a full movie out of it.

Nothing beats the "Black Mamba" whistle !!!
