Which television shows are you watching? Part III

GLOW continues to be one of my top 2-3 shows.

Das Boot isn't bad so far.

Don't watch Wu Assassins for the acting. I mean, you wouldn't, would you, but I'm just sayin' don't. The SFX are decent and the action scenes are great. Iko Uwais' fight scenes remind me of a young Jet Li, with muay thai instead of kung fu. That slide on the hardwood floor-grab the heel-elbow into the side of the knee-move was my favorite of the first episode. Acting-wise, he reminds me more of a young Jean-Claude Van Damme. But again, for the record, we're not here for the acting. I do hope we get to see Katheryn Winnick flash some of her skillz, we don't get to see her let it fly in Vikings. I mean, it'd be awesome if Lagertha suddenly threw a spinning, roundhouse kick into some fool's dome, but it wouldn't really fit the period.

I watched the first episode of When They See Us and I can't finish the series. It's too rough and disappointing, made worse by the knowledge that it's non-fiction.

Van Damme is like a more jock-ish Segal.

Ugh, I can't stand Seagal. Under Siege was fun, and he's literally the only guy in the history of action movies to f people up with Aikido; but he takes himself way too seriously and has all the charm of a bowl of rotten fruit. Marked for Death has a couple of good Aikido fights that make you go "ouch - damn, dude", but the movie pretty much blows and you could probably find those fight scenes on YouTube now. Back in the day, we actually had to sit through dumpster fires like Marked for Death and Only the Strong to see things like Aikido and Capoeira onscreen. Actually, Only the Strong was kinda fun - the villain was a riot - and shoutout to Mark Dacascos, who's in Wu Assassins (fans of Iron Chef America will get the "Who are you?" "I'm just a chef" joke).

That's why 'Executive Decision' was one of my more favored films. :p

Oh no :(

I have zero hopes for this one after they botched the presentation of the serial killers in order to make a low sensationalism-based show.
Again, they had literally the video tapes and diaries of those criminals and chose to alter it to make garbage.

I have no doubt that they will now move on to present BDK in the same fashion.

I liked season 1 of Billions!

Finished Good Omens. Really well performed, but not my kind of story.

I also watched season 1 of The Tick. It was cute but Prime wasn't worth keeping for season 2.

We watched the first 3 eps of Derry Girls S2 yesterday. Couldn't help thinking partway through Ep.I that I really should have rewatched (some of) S1 first, because this time round the speech rhythms seemed faster and the accents stronger than I remembered them being. Took until about halfway through Ep.II (i.e. about half an hour!) before I was reasonably sure I was catching every gem.

Would you believe that Nicola Coughlan (Clare) is nearly 33? Dawson Casting is a given for school shows, but that's probably one of the most extreme examples.

Season 3 of GLOW was pretty disappointing.
It was at the same time too dark/depressing and not dark/depressing enough. Too many potential side plots were introduced and just abandoned.
Spoiler :
Bulimia, alcoholism, painkiller addiction, gambling addiction, the prostitution misunderstanding...
.
Too many side characters were underused.
The one plot thread that they should have killed very early (last season or first episode this season)
Spoiler :
Ruth/Sam

went on for too long and didn't go anywhere.

Just finished Perceptual Grace on epix, a Fargoish mixed bag of pseudophilosophical moral relativistic guilt, redemption, and guys with daddy issues. Great acting and cinematography. For me, the ending was disappointing.

This could be good. That is, if they ignore the world-building set up in the movies and kind of do their own thing.

Marc Bernardin, who wrote an episode, said that the writers were barred from using the words "Jason" and "Bourne."
