Hi, how does one access #NES and #neverending?
Here. Click the "Server" link, type razorvine.selfip.net in the Server box, then choose nick and channel.
Care to elaborate on guest appearances?
If say the player stumbles across a battle between two small fleets and Thlayli happens to be around, he can roleplay one of the two small fleets and beg for help, then turn on the player once the battle ends. Things like that: diplomacy, random stranded ship, planets under attack by pirates and wanting help, pirates attacking planets and wanting help, so on. Maybe even people/ships that want to join the player's adventure, but then we start having to worry about scheduling problems.
I was thinking something along the lines of:
- I make a setting. I already pretty much have one down; transcribing the 3D map in my head into actual graphics would be the only hard thing left, though that's not awfully necessary per se.
Basic factions are Mantis / Rockmen / Slugs / Engi / Zoltans / "Humans" (the last one could use a better name). Nearly everything else is very close to SysNES lore; the factions themselves are all human for example, albeit heavily modified ones in some cases. There's a large, low-resolution, 3D map with the various factions occupying various sections of it; there's interfaction politicking; there's lots of room for the odd little job, for pirating, for suicidal attacks against vastly superior foes; etc.
- I modify the SysNES ship designer here and there. Racial bonuses, at least a few additional components, whatever else is needed. The ability to stick additional components onto pre-existing ships is an obvious must too.
- Whoever decides to play gives me a background. I give them bonuses based on the background, a modified ship designer, and a couple of requirements for their ships (e.g: Mantis would usually have an Intrusion Unit, Zoltans would usually have Shielding, Rockmen would usually have strong armor).
- I make zoomed-in maps for every session, get my RNG up and running, and pray the players don't go too far off the rails.
So it does sound a lot like a D&D campaign actually.
