White Pride

I could have quoted many others. But I took this one as an example.

Generally, I agree: How can one be proud of something one is not resonsible for?

How in the world is that possible???

I agree white pride is exactly like black pride or asian pride, i.e. they're all a lot of crap.
Furthermore, you can not be proud of something you're not responsible for.
"Hey! Sunny weather! Man, am I proud of that!"

-Well, to an extend, I'm proud of being Dutch.
-And I'm very proud of being from this stupid Calvinist Christian backward town in eastern rural Netherlands.
-A victory of the Dutch football team fills me with pride.

Explain that to me, please!

Be proud of what ever you feel like being proud of. If people call you a racist screw them. I am proud of who I am. Every part included.

So, does it make sense to be proud when your national team wins the world cup of any sport competition?

because you usually made some sort of contribution to the team, in support, attendence, and they are a representation of everyone in your nation, no matter who they are.

No, it doesn't really make sense to be proud of being white.. or black.. or asian..

Now, I'm proud of being Polish, but Poland is a well-defined entity. Poland has accomplished great things in the name of Poland (for example, saving Europe from the Turks as well as the Soviets).

Being proud for being white would be like being proud for being human.. and like, going up to a cow and screaming: "OHH YEAHH!$&! HUMANITY FTW!! DOWN WITH BEEF!&"

If there was a Caucasian soccer team, you could be proud of being white THEN. Unless they sucked.

I will always think its stupid to be proud of something you had no choice over.

I'm proud of my German-Austrian heritage, but not necessarily of my "white" heritage. White is a color, I don't see what there is to be proud of.
One can be proud of their heritage as long as they understand they had no part of it. I do not see why the fact that it is German or Austrian matters at all. Is an accomplishment better if it's German? Why do people identify themselves with something they had no ability to change?

exactly, just cause youre proud of something doesnt mean like "YEAH I TOTALLY DID THAT, YOU SUCK!" like, you'd be proud of your son if he got an A+ in math wouldnt you?

there is the possibility something you did helped your son get an A+.

I pretty much agree with everyone else. Pride in your skin color is silly no matter what color it is.

Communisto, be proud of your ethinicity or your nationality, not your skin color.

There is definitely a double standard in the U.S. I'll use the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as an example. They did allot of good during the U.S.' civil rights movement, but today they are just another group working for certain people based on their skin color. I don't want to support the NAACP any more than I want to support some neo-Nazi "White power" group. The problem is, if my business doesn't support the local NAACP through donations, I risk being labeled as a racist & they take me off their "Prefered Businesses" list. I view this as nothing short of extortion, but I'm stuck with it.

just putting this out there, couldnt you say you were proud of the good contributions european society has given to the world (art, music, invention, philosophy, whatever)? Those are specific and easily definable. Not saying I agree, but isnt it the same thing?

Is there anything wrong with it? The term has alot of negative baggage in people's minds of horrible things (white supremacy, nazism) but at the end of the day, is white pride worse than asian pride, black pride etc? And if you think that, isnt that racist? I've gotten alot of dirty looks from people whenever I say that im proud of my white heritage if it ever comes up in conversation, meanwhile it's totally socially acceptable for someone to say "I'm proud of being black/hispanic/asian". There's obviously a double standard here on the subject of race in western society. Thoughts?

generally if you bring up the fact you're proud to be white in an everyday conversation you look like an ass.

just saying.

Nothing wrong with it. But of course, with all sorts of ******ed things, like Affirmative Blacktion and such, anyone saying White Pride is a racist. Hell, this thread will probably be closed soon!

odd how you're pissed at affirmative action and yet you seem irked that white pride is a no-no.

shouldnt you hate white pride if you hate AA?

well haha, the only time its ever come up is like twice in my life in specific conversation. I don't think anyone who is a non-ass goes around to people and says "Hi I'm Bill, and boy am I proud to be white!"

Well I am proud that I am member of my family, Praguer, Czech, Slavic, and also white.

White pride is idiotic. So is pride of any other race. Being proud of one's cultural heritage is at best marginally better.

So, does it make sense to be proud when your national team wins the world cup of any sport competition?
No, it's bloody ****ing stupid.

i wasnt saying you were an ass or that you do it a lot. i was just saying, if you just randomly say, "i'm proud to be white" its generally going to make you seem like a twit if you don't elaborate.

So, why does that happen to me? And to many others? Pure stupidity? I find that hard to believe!

It's sort of like nationalism. You know, pride because he's part of your country, and you're part of your country...

just putting this out there, couldnt you say you were proud of the good contributions european society has given to the world (art, music, invention, philosophy, whatever)? Those are specific and easily definable. Not saying I agree, but isnt it the same thing?

No, because not all Europeans are white, and not all white people are European.

isn't it just a basic human quality; "hey this guy accomplished that, cool. Hey that guy came from the same part of the world as me, thats pretty cool also."

No, nationalism isn't a basic human quality. It used to be provincialism, which is basically like "Hey, we're part of the same village".

Like in Spain, when it united under Ferdinand and Isabella, people still thought "Oh, I'm from Castille" rather than "Oh, I'm Spanish."

Not until Napoleon and his wars of conquest did people start becoming nationalistic. He exported it, you could say.
