White Pride

I will always think its stupid to be proud of something you had no choice over.

One can be proud of their heritage as long as they understand they had no part of it. I do not see why the fact that it is German or Austrian matters at all. Is an accomplishment better if it's German? Why do people identify themselves with something they had no ability to change?

I realize I had no part in it, but instead I have been given the opportunity to continue it.

An accomplishment isn't necessarily better if it is German, but to me it has more meaning and I can more easily relate to it.

No, nationalism isn't a basic human quality. It used to be provincialism, which is basically like "Hey, we're part of the same village".

Like in Spain, when it united under Ferdinand and Isabella, people still thought "Oh, I'm from Castille" rather than "Oh, I'm Spanish."

Not until Napoleon and his wars of conquest did people start becoming nationalistic. He exported it, you could say.

thats what i mean, its a human quality to be proud of what youre a part of isnt it? Whether it be "Hey, I like our village" to "hey I like our continent"

just putting this out there, couldnt you say you were proud of the good contributions european society has given to the world (art, music, invention, philosophy, whatever)? Those are specific and easily definable. Not saying I agree, but isnt it the same thing?

do you actively contribute to the good contributions of europe and are proud of the work you did? or are you proud of european accomplishments that you had no hand in?

I am proud of my background, and it annoys me how we can have every different "pride" under the sun, but if someone says white pride, people scream racism and act like the Nazi party has been reincarnated. I think everyone should know the history of their people and be proud of it's accomplishments. Race may not be something you can choose, but it is part of what makes you who you are. You should not let your life revolve around it, and you certainly shouldn't be a jackass about it. But on the other hand, I don't think we should hate our history and kowtow to everyone who isn't white for fear of being called racist. There has to be some middle ground between self hating multiculturalism and burning crosses on people's lawns. It strikes me as unhealthy to go too far in either direction.

Also, I see no reason why somebody should be denied rights because of skin colour..
I read this book that made it seem like all white people were greedy and rich... it was sickening

liking something geographical and having pride in it arent the same.

isn't it just a basic human quality; "hey this guy accomplished that, cool. Hey that guy came from the same part of the world as me, thats pretty cool also."

That doesn't really make sense when talking about races; there are whites living in Asia, Africa, in the Americas, Europe, probably even a couple of us in Antarctica!

There is nothing that unites us as a people, really, except that our skin colour is similar.

That's like being proud that you have blue eyes, when other people with blue eyes accomplish things. It doesn't make sense.

Well, in the past, the people in the village actively participated with each other. You know, they saw each other every day, tilled the fields, participated in the work together.

Whereas nationalism is just saying "oh, look, we've a common language and a heritage, let's be proud of us!"

so eventually we'll be proud to say we're from earth? cause i'm not at this point.

I see what your saying.

and you would be proud of it if you believed having blue eyes was the reason you accomplished it.

What is wrong with this?

What is wrong with being proud for sharing things and possessing commonalities?

Why does something necessarily have to be accomplished for one to be proud?

Based on that logic...

I have two eyes. You have two eyes.

I have two legs. You have two legs.

I have a head. You have a head.

By Joe, we share so many attributes! We're both human! Yay!

In short: Pride for existing is stupid. Pride for achieving something is good (but not vanity).

because the commonalities with race, nationality, language are generally artificial or outside our control unless they are objective accomplishments.

Well, if it was a "who has the most blue eyes" competition, then helll yeah, I would be proud of having blue eyes!! BLUE EYES REPREZENT

but like.. the colour of my skin is supposed to make me better at stuff than people who have other coloured skin? Uhm.. no

My skin is just an organ. Its colour does not define me.

what about this; I'm proud of my Grandfather for coming here from Ireland only as a boy and almost by himself creating a new successful life and supporting his siblings and eventually his spouse and offspring. This all happened before I was born and I had no hand in it yet I'm proud of him. Is this wrong?

You just described the entire human race. There is nothing that sets you apart from anyone else.

was being irish integral and a function of him coming to america? because many jews, poles, italians, germans, chinese etc etc. did the same thing. His nationality had little to do with it. I'd be proud of him for success amd taking a chance, not being irish.

Well I don't know many people that are proud of those things independently, but when you lump them with your ancestry/history of your peoples, then it sure is something to be proud of. Those people made it possible for you to be who you are today.
