Why Are Media Outlets Targeting YouTubers?

This seems like an odd thing to take exception to. I think it's unlikely that this guy is a racist; I think it's more likely just a stunt to get views. I understand entirely why Disney severed ties, and I certainly think such a severance is newsworthy given the huge number of subscriber the chap has.

In the past few weeks two large YouTubers, JonTron and PewDiePie have been targeted by large media organizations with baseless accusations about them being racist and supporting Nazis. Since there is no accuracy to these accusations whatsoever, I'm left scratching my head as to why media organizations would be running smear campaigns against popular YouTubers.
Lol

Overgrown man-child media personality takes infantile "joke" too far and is blamed for being racist. Where have we heard that before?
PewDiePie for Swedish PM?

King, actually

Well, he actually is dumb. Why do you think he isn't?

He was able to figure out how to make millions of dollars a year by talking like an idiot to 12 year olds on camera. If he was dumb surely he would have stopped at the "talking like an idiot" part and not gone past to the "making millions" part

Trump is a rich dumb man who pays people who aren't as dumb as him to help him act less dumb sometimes
this is how he's made money

He was born into wealth. Had he not, he'd just be some wanker posting on ***** or something

Between Pewdiepie and Trump, psychologists (namely those in the business of analyzing public figures) ought to be making money hand over fist.

Was this pewdiepie guy born into wealth too, though? Or did he figure out a way to make his money without resorting to handouts from his parents or other relatives? (I really have no idea)

He is self-made from what I can tell, but he owes pretty much all of it to the fact that millions of people like watching him play video games and tell "edgy" jokes, more so than others doing the exact same thing, for whatever reason.

pretty sure he just signed up on some google program and got popular because of dumb luck

tv and youtube aren't directly compatible

kjellberg might've been fairly well of for all I know though

Surely a complete moron wouldn't be able to take advantage of dumb luck like that and turn it into a business that makes millions every year.

Just as there are a number of forms in intelligence, stupidity also has its various flavors. Someone most certainly could have remarkable business acumen while also displaying deficits in other capacities.

I wouldn't call kjellberg's schtick a "business"

Explain the pop music world :o
And in YT you don't even need to sing (let alone play any instrument). Sometimes it is enough (provided you are fairly young, eg teen) if you either look good or try to outjerk the jerks. PDP probably became so famous as being among the first boyish video-game commentators or some such, along with some luck (?). Though now he is 30 (?) he needs a new routine, so maybe nazi stuff will come in handy? :D

?

He has a studio and a team of staff. What is that if not a business?
I guess, but those are people less dumb than him trying to help him being less dumb

And I'm fairly confident they approached him, rather than him them

So, is there any way to calculate this as a business move?

Do we know what losing his ties with Disney will cost him relative to what the added hits from the controversy will net him?
