A spin off of the atheist/religious voter thread.

Assuming you argee with a politician on most of the issues, or they belong to your party, would you..

...vote for a Scientologist?
....A Muslim?
....A Mormon?
....A Pagan?
....A Hindu?
.....A Catholic?

Explanations for your answers would be wonderful!

I would vote for a candidate based on their platform, not their religion.

Maybe I woudn't vote for someone involved with an obvious cult like Scientology.

Depends on party and platform.

I hope youre constructing a multichoice poll ;).
However, I will never vote for anyone who is a Scientologist or a Pagan. Mainly because Scientology is a dangerous cult as well as hostile towards psychology and other religions. Paganism is just wierd to me, especialy with wicca.

The OP states assuming you would would agree with that party and platform. Picture GWB for you then I guess...only, a Muslim. Or Pagan. or whatever.

I wouldn't vote for anyone of those, if their affiliation was involved in their platform directly. If not, then I'd vote for any of them

In that case I'd give them serious consideration.

Same with me. As long as they are part of a well-known and agreeable religeon I would vote for them. I do believe that one's religeon would dictate their demeanor and philosophy, thus I don't think that I could ever agree with a cultist.

I agree with Truronian.

I think Europeans in general don't like mixing religion with politics, we have a historical reason not to put the two together, they caused alot of strife in our history, so no, let your politics talk for you, and leave your religion on the sideline, religion isn't and shouldn't be an issue in politics, it seems to cloud the real issues.

Of course, to all of them.

Why would religion matter?

A person with my political views believes in separation of church and state anyway. ;)

Definitely not Scientology or a Pagan, as they are cults IMO. And sorry Matt, I mean no disrespect, but I consider Mormons a borderline cult too. I don't know enough about Hindus or Muslims to make an opinion and not for sure about the Catholic Church.

I'd vote for a Christian yes, but not necessarily a Catholic.

I would not grant a member of the church of Scientology any semblance of political power. Even if they themselves had no interest in trying to force that laughable excuse for a religion into their career, the higher-ups in the church have been shown to actively extort and exploit their members, and any disenters.

The rest of the listed beleifs, I have nothing against.

Any politician that I would vote for would have to have both a secular persona and a value system combatible with what I believe. If both of those are in place, then their personal religious beliefs are not relevant. However, given the list provided, it is unlikely that several of them would fit my two cfriteria...

I wouldn't vote for anyone who's religion plays a large role in their political views. So yeah, I don't vote much.

I would vote for any of them, providing they didn't set some rule relating to their relgion on us.

As long as they didn't try to impose their religion/beliefs on me, it wouldn't really matter. But the Scientolgist would be the least likely to get my vote.

Any of them are fine with me except the Scientologist.

...vote for a Scientologist? No.
....A Muslim? No.
....A Mormon? No.
....A Pagan? No.
....A Hindu? No.
.....A Catholic? Yes.

Assuming that this is about America, this nation is a Christian nation, I would trust neither of those religions besides Catholics. Mormons are an earlier sect that can be compared to Scientology, I do not consider them true Christians. By the way, before you say anything, I am an atheist.
